I cannot believe that the charges have been dropped.

Anyone remember the audio recording?

He demanded she put her legs up.
“Mason stop, I don’t want to have sex.”
”I don’t give a fuck what you want.”

Charges dropped. I cannot believe it.

Re payments - weren't changes made to the law so prosecutions could be made even if the victim withdrew? eg due to payments or fear

The audio evidence is pretty damning. Heartwrenching too.

If this is justice then F "the law". Maybe there should be a national strike until sht like this is sorted out. Why should we work for and fund systems like this?

Ppq · 02/02/2023 23:13

Rape is legal these days. Despite evidence to the contrary. He’s disgusting.

Gpm09 · 03/02/2023 00:21

What video was that

Gpm09 · 03/02/2023 00:27

Ched evens had to spend nearly 3 years in prison before a retrial acquitted him

Gpm09 · 03/02/2023 00:30

The problem with the recording is there is no face to go with it, I’m not saying it wasn’t him but there is no proof it was him, but I would like to know what the new evidence is

Carla2601 · 03/02/2023 01:08

IDontCareMatthew · 02/02/2023 14:52

Yes

Absolutely not. It means they can’t prosecute him for a number of reasons. The conviction rate for sexual crimes against women in this country is terrible so no conviction/trial absolutely doesn’t mean you’re necessarily innocent of the crime:

Mannymoomin · 03/02/2023 01:09

I shouldn’t speculate, but the new evidence must’ve come from the defence team.
Theres nothing stopping the defence from questioning her previous sexual partners and asking them to be witness for a defence.
Obviously this shouldn’t happen, and I’m not saying that’s what happened here, my point is, it is allowed to happen.

Ched Evans was acquitted because a former bf testified that she'd used the phrase 'fuck me harder' during sex.

That was enough to cast doubt on her testimony. (Which by the way was that she was so intoxicated she woke up in a hotel with no recollection of how she got there. It was the hotel staff who contacted the police.)

Obviously that phrase proves his innocence 🙄

Buildingthefuture · 03/02/2023 07:01

Jesus Christ - I just listened to that audio. If that is him (and she refers to him by name) he is a vile specimen. She very clearly tells him she doesn’t want to have sex and his reply is I don’t give a fuck why you want? He is openly and very overtly threatening and aggressive. He should never, ever play again. Anywhere. Young boys and men look up to these people and he obviously has no respect for women at all. NOT a role model we should be encouraging. I hope she gets some help and actually that he does too. His behaviour is beyond unacceptable. The fact that CPS haven’t pursued it in no way makes him innocent.

@SavoirFlair

Your comments came across like you were defending a rapist.

Not looking to debate the cps.

This is typical of the level of this forum.

I’ve said what I want to debate (the CPS) and you’re telling me no, you come across as someone who defends a rapist.

Because I didn’t call him “vile” or whatever , but talked about procedure.

as I said before ..

People on here who are understandably triggered or enraged by this story, cannot keep pointing to “the video” or whatever as some kind of smoking gun for this case.

His general poor behaviour towards women and his misogyny is not what is on trial.

it’s not what he was charged with.

Doss anyone get that and how the (failed) system works?

Or is this a virtual stocks, where we all take turns to lob verbal excrement at someone so that we show solidarity?

Gpm09 · 03/02/2023 07:14

The thing is they have been investigating it for over a year, and there has been rumours that they are actually back together, plus they have been following each other on social media again for months now

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 03/02/2023 07:14

Delays in bringing cases are down to more than the CPS. The government has deliberately underfunded the court system for years now. There simply aren't the physical premises or judges. This is before we consider the issue of criminal barristers pay. There's a reason they've been striking.

That's how coercive control works. In who's interests is it for them to be back together?

Mayorquimby2 · 03/02/2023 07:22

"The audio evidence is pretty damning."

But without the person who recorded it it's inadmissible similarly with the photos of the aftermath.

Even if they were admissible without her evidence they'd lack any context or identifiers of the assailant.

For public opinion though it should stick and rightfully so.

dew141 · 03/02/2023 07:26

Agreed. There's a lot of comments that he's innocent in the press. He may not have been found guilty in a court of law and there should absolutely be a legal due process. (Although he's bloody lucky, frankly, that the witness has withdrawn her statement).

But few people would listen to that recording and still think he's innocent. I'm afraid he deserves what he gets on that score and perhaps he'll change his attitude although I doubt it.

If he goes back to playing for a club, I hope every social media post that club makes is followed by someone commenting with a link to the audio recording.

Gpm09 · 03/02/2023 07:40

the rumours are that she started following on instagram and likening his images a couple of months now and he started following her back just before Christmas, there is also rumour that she has been seen leaving his house. But like I said it’s rumours, the entire case is a strange one in my opinion. If the evidence is so damming then he should be prosecuted even without a witness, if he is innocent then he deserves a public apology. I think the new evidence should be released so we can get a better understanding of what happened because anybody can do is speculate

Gpm09 · 03/02/2023 07:43

The tape is a strange one for me, I have friends who act out rape scenarios as foreplay all the time which I find odd but each to their own, I’m not saying that is what this is I’m just saying and I’m not saying he is innocent or guilty I just think we need more concrete evidence before judging

Gpm09 · 03/02/2023 07:44

Yeah I heard that too

It was accompanied by photos of her bloodied face and bruised legs and a post saying he did this to her. Stop with the "rape fantasy' bullshit.

I think it's arguably mutually beneficial. Sure her dad is delighted.

I can't even articulate what I think about this.

Gpm09 · 03/02/2023 08:10

Ok how many men are falsely arrested of rape or domestic abuse because of images and made up allegations which does not help actual victims and again im not saying he is innocent but the evidence has to be more concrete than a voice on a phone with no face and images with no context and that is what they would have said Is what they would have said in court, is it wrong he’ll yes, but again we can only make assumptions from what is fed to us, it would be interesting to see the new evidence so we can have a better understanding either way
