I cannot believe that the charges have been dropped.

Anyone remember the audio recording?

He demanded she put her legs up.
“Mason stop, I don’t want to have sex.”
”I don’t give a fuck what you want.”

Charges dropped. I cannot believe it.

I absolutely agree SweetStrawberrie

But how far will Man United fans go to show their disproval when he plays again. I doubt many will doing anything but voice their opinion but they do have the power to make their opinions heard loudly and I do not mean chanting at a game they can arrange to group together (as women have done) make their opinions heard on sm, boycott games, silent protest (turning their backs), calling out sponsor’s but I willing to bet this won’t happen

SweetStrawberrie · 18/08/2023 09:04

This is very true - it's all well and good to have that opinion but it needs to go further.

Oh no doubt he will get chanted at, booed at, by home and away fans, however he will know that is coming and they are taught to zone it out. Part and parcel I guess.

It is truly sad how this case played out. I don't blame her though as infuriating as it is.

Can imagine how easy it was to manipulate the situation, promises of never doing it again, guilt tripping how it would ruin his life, he would go to prison bla bla, i love you so much, oh look all of a sudden we are having a baby, how lovely, a chance to move on, i only care about you and our baby, urgh.

Spottypaperdoll · 18/08/2023 09:07

My husband is furious with United, his forever club. He thinks they are acting weak and pathetic and only thinking of the money.

I hope Greenwood gets sold to a team abroad, probably end up in the new Saudi league. It sets a very dangerous, toxic precedent if he remains a paid player of United.

I don’t know if it’s a majority or minority of United fans who want him to stay, I personally only know those who are outraged, but fan groups can be powerful, I would encourage you to get involved in asking questions, emailing the club, using twitter if you have it. The sponsors won’t want the noise and neither will the glaziers, especially as they want to secure a new buyer.

He shouldn't play for United again or on any team/role where he is a role model to boys/men. His behaviour has shown that he's not fit for the role regardless of convictions or not.

I hope his partner finds the support to safely leave him because I'd bet money that she is still being abused.

SavoirFlair · 02/02/2023 15:06

Ridiculous.

do you just want every man who is accused, convicted? Every single one regardless of the evidence?

FGS. This site.

You're the one being ridiculous.

1% of complaints lead to a conviction.

If you can't fathom that for all intents and purposes that makes rape legal regardless of what the actual law says then that says everything about you.

And also, maybe crucially, her own father spoke up for him in the immediate aftermath. What hope did she have?!

Apologies if this has already been stated - I don't have the time at the moment to read through all the pages of posts. However, I do know that his girlfriend (the victim who withdrew the allegation) went on to have his baby and he to marry her. In this case, how can they NOT let him play.

Because they can't control her choices, but they can choose who they want to represent their club?!

It has done before with Ched Evans and Sheffield - there was a petition with something like 150k names not to allow him back. He'd been in prison for rape though so there was absolutely no "innocent after investigation" for the club to hide behind. I don't know what they were thinking.

Absolutely. He threw her under the bus.

Picture this: I’ve got mental health issues and I’m an inpatient to help deal with these and meet a male nurse who takes an interest me, he pursues me heavily even though I’m really not well. I then get into a relationship with him, get discharged from hospital and move in with him, we have a fight and I make a complaint to the hospital saying this man was my named nurse when I was an inpatient. The hospital are horrified and suspend him and launch an investigation. In the meantime we get back together and I get pregnant and have a baby. Are the hospital still sacking him for breach of professional boundaries and his regulator potentially striking him off? You can bet your arse they are.

Harriet being in a relationship and having a baby with him makes absolutely no difference whatsoever beyond the fact it means she has withdrawn her support for a conviction, without which the CPS would have presumably continued with the prosecution and probably been successful.

Just because she has chosen to maintain her relationship with him doesn’t undo what we can be fairly sure he has done. It makes it all the more ‘our’ (societies) responsibility to express disapproval.

Man Utd have quite advanced plans for announcing his return

https://theathletic.com/4786779/2023/08/18/mason-greenwood-manchester-united-charities/

Including labelling domestic abuse charities as "hostile", I'd be very interested to know who they think would be supportive.

Quote from the article

The planning divided these people into categories to the effect of “supportive”, “open-minded” or “hostile”. The club’s document listed a series of domestic abuse charities assumed to be “hostile”.

Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood return plan included list of ‘hostile’ figures

The Athletic reveals more details of United's plan to bring back Greenwood, which has sparked crisis meetings and unrest at the club

Another MU player now named wrt DV... they would want to get their house in order and send a strong message on this.

Spottypaperdoll · 19/08/2023 08:10

I think the release of that statement was to test the water. After the outcry I’m hoping they will change their mind. There was talk of them consulting the Man Utd women’s team, which just seems absolutely insulting, as the board would have made up their minds beforehand. Don’t pay them lip service.

The victim in this is saying that the released recording was doctored and was several videos mashed together and taken out of context. If she has crystal clear proof of that and takes it to the club, then that would change things massively for me. But I don’t believe that to be true at all, and he should go. I would never want to see him wear a United shirt again and I don’t for a second think he should play in the premier league. I saw a great tweet from a dad (and I’m paraphrasing) he said ‘don’t make me explain to my 8 year old daughter why he is getting booed on the pitch’

mikado1 · 21/08/2023 15:18

LlynTegid · 21/08/2023 16:22

The FA should make a statement saying he will never be picked for England or permitted to do any FA coaching courses.

My guess is that he will go to play in Saudi Arabia.

I don't think he will go to Saudi. They are trying to use football to improve their national image. Signing Greenwood wouldn't help, it would just reinforce the perception that they are a misogynistic society.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 21/08/2023 18:05

I’m horrified by the statement from him in which he says he was ‘cleared of all charges’ no you weren’t dickhead.

And the open letter from Richard Arnold which explicitly says ‘we believe that he didn’t do this’ and ‘the alleged victims family have been involved’ the family who were trying to cover up for him right from the start aye?

So basically they’ve got rid but only because of the backlash. They still intend to support him in finding a new job and they don’t think he has done anything really that wrong. So that’s good to know.

AdamRyan · 21/08/2023 18:05

Bloody statement is infuriating. They manager is "confident he didn't do what the video suggested". And Greenwood saying he wants to become a better person and father. Ugh.

I'm sure he will go overseas. Maybe Brazil. They seem to tolerate some fairly outrageous behaviour from footballers

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 21/08/2023 18:45

Agree, and what exactly does -

While I am satisfied that Mason did not commit the acts he was charged with, Mason’s accepted that he has made mistakes which he takes responsibility for

mean? Confused
