I cannot believe that the charges have been dropped.

Anyone remember the audio recording?

He demanded she put her legs up.
“Mason stop, I don’t want to have sex.”
”I don’t give a fuck what you want.”

Charges dropped. I cannot believe it.

Brickies don't normally have it in their contract that they should not behave in a way that brings the club (company) into disrepute. This can apply, and has applied, to an antisemitic gesture, a badly-judged tweet or admitting to drug use. Unfortunately for him the language in the recording (which he has not denied) is indicative of abuse and is enough.

BeansOnToast32 · 17/08/2023 20:39

@Ghan I don't give a hoot who it is! I'd feel exactly the same if it was Jack Grealish or Harry Maguire! The only person brining race into it is you.

If it was your daughter/sister he'd done those things to would you be like "oh well I still want him to keep his job where he's a role model to impressionable young boys" let them think it's ok to force themselves on their girlfriends and slap them about.

Give over!

Damn right he should lose his job.

This centres wholly on misogyny not racism.

MalcolmsMiddle · 17/08/2023 20:53

Got an awful feeling about this from the wording of the Utd statements. Whilst I understand "innocent until proven guilty" in a court of law, it's obvious rape/sexual assault has become a very different crime to others in terms of proof vs probability.

I actually think it's more likely he'd have lost his job already in everyday jobs if his bosses had heard that recording.

I have no doubt he was racially abused on twitter because it's a cesspit in places but he's also being defended on twitter because it's a cesspit in places.

That's some impressive twisting-yourself-into-a-pretzel there to make this about race.

Did you not read what I said about footballer contracts and disrepute in the public eye?

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 17/08/2023 21:02

I know little a bit about professional fitness to practise which this would fall under the vague bracket of, albeit football is not as yet a regulated profession.

For the purposes of such tribunals and hearings then the standard of proof is the lower standard of ‘balance of probabilities’, it is still entirely open to the club to take action based on the fact that on the balance of probabilities Mason Greenwood is a violent rapist.

Same if he was a social worker, an accountant, a lawyer, a nurse or a physiotherapist. No conviction doesn’t mean that you can’t be deemed an unfit person based on the evidence that is available.

So because he was racially abused by "multiple white men" that means everybody else that thinks he shouldn't play football is racist?

Those "multiple white men" would find any excuse to racially abuse anybody because they are ignorant pigs. That doesn't mean I or anyone else on this thread is racist.

ilovesooty · 17/08/2023 21:03

SweetStrawberrie · 17/08/2023 20:36

It's nothing to do with race and everything to do with him being a woman abusing piece of shit who should absolutely not be returning to a job in the public eye with young people looking up to them.

The message it sends out is horrific.

Utter load of shit to claim it's racism.

ilovesooty · 17/08/2023 21:06

I mean I agree @SweetStrawberrie

This is a predominantly female site. We are discussing, as women, male sexual violence against women. What silly little men say on twitter are irrelevant to the discussion we are having here. No one here is racially abusing him.

On Twitter and Daily Mail comments all I read is people defending him. I cannot understand it…
Not once have I ever seen a racist comment - just ones that claim he’s a violent, rapist POS who most certainly should never play professional football again. I can’t believe they’re even contemplating this.

I have given you an example of another football player who has actually lost his job, multiple times, despite never being charged or convicted.
Mason Greenwood has not yet lost his job and he was charged.

girlfriend44 · 17/08/2023 21:35

There's loads against him, and tweets asking people to contact the club etc.
What a dickhead, he had everything alot of people dream off playing professional sport and he ruined it.

If you've seen her bruises and what he said to her it's enough to turn your stomach.

The clear and obvious distinction between this case and others is not race, but the magnitude of the evidence available to the general public.

Your son's experience is irrelevant to this situation.

To claim that people disgusted by Greenwood's behaviour have opinions driven by racism is utter bollocks. You can't argue this with any credibility so it's not surprising you're bowing out.

I'd be genuinely interested if any of the defenders on here have listened to the recording. Not a transcript, the actual recording. I suspect not but I'm willing to be corrected.

Putting the bruised face video aside, I can't imagine anyone listening to the vile things he said and being prepared to defend him as innocent, irrespective of the criminal proceedings.

It has been taken seriously, the police have tried to prosecute but CPS have said there is insufficient evidence.

Jammydodger1981
But he is 'innocent until proven guilty'

I'm not saying its right - and CPS should send all cases like this to court as a victimless prosecution IMHO.

But can society just assume that he he must be guilty now?

He is ‘innocent until proven guilty in the eyes of the law’. The law being the pertinent part. Nobody who has committed a crime is innocent of that crime in reality until the second the jury states it’s guilty verdict. They were always guilty, just not found to be guilty by a court.

Should he be sent to jail without a trial? No. Can I think yep, he did it, based on what I’ve seen? Absolutely.

Because there is audio of him threatening rape.

You don't have to commit a crime to be sacked from work.

HRTQueen · 18/08/2023 01:23

another man gets away with sexual assault and violence regardless of the evidence

of course he will still have a career he will be worth a lot of money to a lot of people it’s sickening

as for race of course if will play a part because it does for black men. I have no issues him being called a rapist I do when racist terms are used too as this will absolutely happen. He is a violent rapist who is also a very good footballer many can ignore him being a violent rapist and many won’t ignore his race

and the worst part is there are hoards of fans (mostly men I have to say from what I've seen) who are absolutely thrilled that he has gotten away with it and have twisted the narrative so that Mason is now the victim who was falsely accused.

Fortunately, I have several men in my life, two of which are man united fans who believe he is 100 percent guilty and shouldn't be anywhere near the football leagues.
