Me and my daughter was awoken to a LOUD condescending beeping noise. Like duh duh duh duh duh da da da da if that makes sense 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve checked all the smoke alarms, carbon dioxide detector things and all good. The kids are older now so they don’t have any musical toys. I literally have no explanation. AIBU to move out out 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

in all seriousness has anyone else ever had this?…been living here 2 years this august and hasn’t happened at all before now

Yonks ago, sara cox on the radio had similar problem, she had had building work done, builders had boxed in a smoke alarm or some such, which only came to light when the batteries died a year later so it started to beep.. from inside the ceiling ....

Next time switch off the mains and see if it stops? Narrows it down!

Have you got a pc plugged in - sometimes when there is power problem with the pc of the hard drive has an issue they can beep really loudly even if it appears to be off

Have you got a house alarm? Our's went off the other night as the power went off, when it came back on it gave loud beeps until we woke up and stopped it.

Years ago the other house in our pair of semis installed a burglar alarm that you set and unset with a code every time you leave and re-enter the house. The gadget sounded a series of beeps everytime. Drove me nuts. Especially at 6am. Especially when they went in and out about 4 times as they'd forgotten things, and...... especially because they thought it a great idea to install the effing thing upstairs on the other side of the party wall to our toddler's bedroom. It was soooo LOUD!

Could it be something similar?

Some strange sources of beeps I've had...

  1. DHs bike alarm. It can be heard on the whole street. And as we've discovered... goes off when the temperature falls below -5°c, at a lower volume but means we have to go outside to turn it off.

  2. fire Station calling the part timers to work in an emergency.

  3. the school bell going off randomly after a power cut.

Could it be a guidance beep from outside the house? We have a neighbour whose van makes this sound when pulling in so perhaps was fainter inside? X

Had something like that when our alarm system’s back up battery ( which we knew nothing about) was failing

How close is your living room to the road outside could it not have been a large vehicle reversing. I know the feeling for days we searched for the location of a high pitched aqualung hissing noise. It continued for days until my son asked for some pepsi and went for the two litre bottle I had down side of my sofa only to realise the bodies stopped as soon as he released the fizz. But it didn't even sound like the typical bottle fizz it was so strange.
