Me and my daughter was awoken to a LOUD condescending beeping noise. Like duh duh duh duh duh da da da da if that makes sense 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve checked all the smoke alarms, carbon dioxide detector things and all good. The kids are older now so they don’t have any musical toys. I literally have no explanation. AIBU to move out out 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

in all seriousness has anyone else ever had this?…been living here 2 years this august and hasn’t happened at all before now

Is it the fridge?

I used to have one that beeped

Olinguito · 02/02/2023 11:30

We had a magnetic catflap which used batteries and was a source of mysterious beeping when the batteries ran low.

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 02/02/2023 11:37

Is it next doors smoke alarm? We had 2 days of trying to track down a mysterious intermittent beep, that turned out to be the battery on next doors alarm. Knocked on their door after a couple of days to ask and they said "Oh, is that what that is? Doesn't really bother us." Had to give them a battery to get them to shut it up!

MaverickGooseGoose · 02/02/2023 11:40

Our landline wireless phone does this when it is running out of battery, we forget we have them as never use them.

TurningLeavesGold · 02/02/2023 12:02

Labrador? Their damn tail is a lethal weapon, whacks your legs, whacks everything off side tables, whacks loudly on doors… loveable loud, excitable, and noisy

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/02/2023 12:09

We had this in a flat once and it turned out it was next doors alarm and the place and been left empty. The police had to come and batter the door down 🤣. It was like an episode of The Bill.

CatAssTrophic · 02/02/2023 12:23

My alarms are not condescending, they are aggressive, but I live in a snotty part of London and they are reacting to the condescending neighbours. I don't blame them.

I have been woken by the smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, digital phone and house alarm battery running down so far in this condescending stupid house. Most of them are beeps, except the house alarm which screams as if it's overwhelmed in the Sistine Chapel, that is most certainly ascending.

I would say it is something with a run down battery.

Maria1982 · 02/02/2023 12:26

When I had similar it was a smoke alarm which had run out of battery (and was beeping to let us know… so annoying!)

Oops clearly I missed the BEEPING apart, and just registered loud noise. Sorry

candycrush789 · 02/02/2023 12:35

Some local scallys once set off a rape alarm and chucked in on my doorstep because they thought it would be a laugh. Odd how they then sauntered by and asked me what the noise was, all innocence.... It was effing loud - and really small.

kittensinthekitchen · 02/02/2023 12:45

Someone buried in your wall with a Nokia 3210 in their pocket?

Mosaic123 · 02/02/2023 12:46

Have you left your fridge or freezer open even slightly? Mine beeps if do this.

Don't be sorry, you gave me the beautiful mental image of a big boingy yellow dog opening its mouth to bark and a beep coming out. Repeatedly. And possibly condescendingly.

Sounds like a smoke alarm low battery alert. Ours have no visible sign of the alert. An alarm with a low battery just sounds for six very loud beeps in a row, once an hour.

So as soon as we hear beeping, we have to race to get right underneath it to check that we've identified the correct alarm. It's like a particularly annoying game of grandmother's footsteps - by the time you get to the suspect smoke alarm to confirm where the beeps are coming from, the beeps have stopped again.

I was ready to get in an exorcist the first time it happened.

Parent235 · 02/02/2023 13:21

This thread is brilliant. fdgdfgdfgdfg we had that the other day, I thought it was one of ours (again) but it wasn't any of them when I stood next to them, so I think it must have been next door's. It's stopped now, they are quite sensible though so would have gone and got a new battery. I'm not envious of you having neighbours who are impervious to loud beeps. I hope they would take it seriously if it actually went off!

Parent235 · 02/02/2023 13:21

Has Sting moved in next door?

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 02/02/2023 13:30

@candycrush789 Have you tried flicking the electricity off at the fuse box? Leave it off for a few minutes and see if it still beeps. If so, you can probably rule out anything plugged in

TerfOnATrain · 02/02/2023 13:42

Cordless phone switched off at the plug where the battery has drained down. I had one of these where the cordless phone had become made in the bed and it drive me insane finding it.

celticprincess · 02/02/2023 18:51

When we had this it was the neighbour’s house. Twice. Once we had to call the fire brigade to go and check on him as he was a very elderly gentleman and it was his smoke alarm. The next time it was the other neighbour’s house that was empty and we had to contact the estate agent to get them to go and check. Both times it was when the smoke alarms needed a new battery. When that happens they make one hell of a noise.

angielizzy1 · 02/02/2023 19:31

We hear random beeps early in the morning and I've found out that someone nearby has a mobility scooter and reverses it out of their house every morning, taking a surprisingly long time. It has a very loud beep when it reverses. Took me ages to work it what it was.

ChrisPPancake · 02/02/2023 19:35

Digital watch? Had a random beeping in the office once, not on the hour or anything helpful like that, but definitely regular intervals. Like you we looked everywhere. Eventually found a watch at the back of a filing cabinet. Time was wrong.

Yesiamtiredactually · 02/02/2023 19:37

It sounds like it could have been the carbon monoxide detector? Ours did something very similar a couple of months back in the middle of the night. Took us a few hours in the morning to work it out. Got someone out and they turned the gas off etc and made sure everything was safe. We replaced the detectors just to be safe but from what you said I think that’s probably the answer.
