Me and my daughter was awoken to a LOUD condescending beeping noise. Like duh duh duh duh duh da da da da if that makes sense 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve checked all the smoke alarms, carbon dioxide detector things and all good. The kids are older now so they don’t have any musical toys. I literally have no explanation. AIBU to move out out 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

in all seriousness has anyone else ever had this?…been living here 2 years this august and hasn’t happened at all before now

Condescending? It's probably from Surrey 😉

I’m from surrey and I’ve now died. 😂

candycrush789 · 02/02/2023 07:14

@mumda it stops after about 6 beeps and it’s really fucking loud. I don’t have a loft as I live in a converted cottage! 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m clueless I have noooo idea what so ever

I love the idea of a condescending beeping sound! I immediately thought of how some people use their car horn.

We occasionally hear a random alarm sound overnight, but it isn't inside our house - it is very faint, so I assume it's one of the neighbours.

candycrush789 · 02/02/2023 07:16

@PayPennies my tired eyes I was supposed to say descending, I realised my error but too lazy to go back and change it 😂

Thermostat? I thought ours was mains connected until the display went blank and the repair person said that the betteried had run out lol.

greenacrylicpaint · 02/02/2023 07:27

do you have a plug in doorbell?

we had to deactivate ours as neighbours babyphone interfered with it.
it was not our notmal doorbell sound but a really annoying puckering screeching sound.

Ginandthings · 02/02/2023 07:28

Do you have a smart meter display? Mine beeped when it was running out of battery as the plug had been turned off, it wasn’t constant and took ages to work out what it was

GreenBiscuitr · 02/02/2023 07:29

It's clearly aliens parking their craft before coming to get you..

hungerganes · 02/02/2023 07:29

Ascending noise will be from electrical or battery equips. Look at everything.

Definitelycross · 02/02/2023 07:30

Lightninginabox · 02/02/2023 07:05

Was it beeping like ‘well of course if that’s the best you can do then well done you, not everyone has the same abilities. I mean I find it easy to rewire a nuclear sub, but I appreciate we’re all different.’

😂😂😂

SunshineBoy · 02/02/2023 07:30

Are your smoke alarms wired into your electrics?

when I moved in I thought this meant they’d never need batteries but after 2 years mine started beeping very loudly. They have a battery for back up. I took it out and it would not stop beeping until a new battery went back in.

Chouetted · 02/02/2023 07:30

Do you have a phone that might have fallen off the hook?

ParrotMug · 02/02/2023 07:31

Same question as @Ginandthings

Our smart meter beeps when it drops signal, too. DP wouldn't believe it was that until I made him stand and wait next to it!

tanstaafl · 02/02/2023 07:34

Is it bin day OP?
could it have been a lorry reversing outside?

Condescending? It's probably from Surrey 😉

The place where sound is superior.

deplorabelle · 02/02/2023 07:37

Agree with Chouetted - landline phones make a weird noise when left off the hook.

maras3 · 02/02/2023 07:51

We have garden birds who mimic all sorts, maybe its that.

AmIreallyBeverly · 02/02/2023 07:51

We have this. Every so often we get woken by a loud beeping. It sounds like a fire alarm but it isn't. We change all the batteries each time, just in case but it isn't that.

GoodChat · 02/02/2023 07:53

Is it definitely not the carbon monoxide alarm warning you of a low battery? Ours terrified me in the middle of the night early in the week!

TheHauntedPencilCase · 02/02/2023 07:54

Our smart meter has started doing this to tell us we're over budget....we didn't set a budget so no idea how to stop it. Also our little electronic weather station has a storm alarm which sounds similar.

Spaghettihooplas · 02/02/2023 07:55

If you have sky is it the remote control? You can press the button on the box to find your remote and it beeps loudly. Maybe something went wrong and went off by itself?

CleaningOutMyCloset · 02/02/2023 07:55

I had similar a while back, turned out to be an iPhone, on vibrate that had been left on my dd's wooden draws, in such a way that the vibration made a loud noise (half on, half off a coaster against a glass. I only knew when I left my iwatch on the same draws and the alarm went off and made it vibrate, we could never get the position right to make the noise again, but it's the only explanation that's even close

UnctuousUnicorns · 02/02/2023 07:55

"landline phones make a weird noise when left off the hook"

What, not a sound like, "Please replace the handset. Please replace the handset. Please repl..." ? 🤔

This thread is cracking me up! 😅

chocolateorangeinhaler · 02/02/2023 07:56

Do you live in a new ish house? Some near me are those postage stamp sized houses so insulated and sealed up like a plastic bag that they are all built with an intake fan in the loft to provide a draught to push out condensation.
They have a filter that needs changing every so often. As it's in the loft it beeps to let you know.
Great if you are the first owner as you usually know it's there. It's the subsequent owners that don't get told it there and thus get plagued by the bleeps that appear to come from nowhere.
