Me and my daughter was awoken to a LOUD condescending beeping noise. Like duh duh duh duh duh da da da da if that makes sense 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve checked all the smoke alarms, carbon dioxide detector things and all good. The kids are older now so they don’t have any musical toys. I literally have no explanation. AIBU to move out out 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

in all seriousness has anyone else ever had this?…been living here 2 years this august and hasn’t happened at all before now

Is it definitely duh duh duh duh duh da da da da? Because the alarm on Alexa goes "duh duh duh da da da" in a fairly patronising tone. Do you have one?

ShitShoweringClouds · 02/02/2023 07:59

I actually did the noise in a condescending manner in my head. Alarms can definitely be condescending- mine can be right twats!

@PayPennies my tired eyes I was supposed to say descending, I realised my error but too lazy to go back and change it 😂

You actually mean Ascending if it gets louder 😉

There's got to be a simple solution to it. Not an old phone alarm?

Calmdown14 · 02/02/2023 08:03

Phone handset left off the base and running out?

Sky box gone haywire and doing the search thing for the remote control?

Dishwasher not finished it's cycle due to an error?

Notgoodatchoosingnames · 02/02/2023 08:03

we had random beeping on and off for a few days, turns out one of our sons walkie talkies had been left on and was beeping because it couldn't locate the other!

YearoftheRabbit23 · 02/02/2023 08:04

Landline left off the hook?

Sugarfree23 · 02/02/2023 08:04

Have you got smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors with a backup battery?

They beep when the batteries are starting to go. Look around your boiler for the Carbon Monoxide one ours very technically just sits on top of the boiler.

whatyoulookingfor · 02/02/2023 08:04

I had an unknown beeping in my house, it drove me mad. It was a loud beep every 10 mins or so.because the gap between each beep was so long it took me a week to locate it.... It was the battery alarm on my defibrillator (I have for work) it genuinely drove me mad

MamblingOn · 02/02/2023 08:06

House phone left off the hook? Or when this happened to me it turned out to be a personal safety alarm which had somehow flicked on when I was out somewhere noisy and the batteries had worn down whilst I was out by the time I was home so it was much quieter than presumably it had been.

3ofus3 · 02/02/2023 08:11

carbon monoxide detector ?
Fire alarm battery ?

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 02/02/2023 08:12

I 100% think some alarms sound condescending FWIW OP 🤣

CocoPlum · 02/02/2023 08:12

We had this and it was so confusing - it was a neighbour reversing their car, but they are about 5 houses up - it was still very audible. Not enough to wake us but loud enough that I could hear the beeps getting closer together. If it's that loud, perhaps the next door neighbour?

DuncanBiscuits · 02/02/2023 08:12

Condescending? Was it the ghost of my ex-MIL?

junebirthdaygirl · 02/02/2023 08:13

If there has been even a momentary break in electricity our house alarm starts to beep and won't stop until reset. Could there have been an electricity cut even for a short while?

Chouetted · 02/02/2023 08:13

That's a point. It could just be the neighbour's alarm/co detector/whatever.

Sound travels weirdly sometimes, especially at night.

RedCarsGoFaster · 02/02/2023 08:14

Do you have a landline phone? Is it off the hook?

WonderingWanda · 02/02/2023 08:15

How annoying, I hope you got some sleep. We discovered our freezer beeps if left open, we've had carbon monoxide alarms go off and the battery low smoke alarm thing on the mains smoke alarms. So annoying. Hope you figured it out.

Sugargliderwombat · 02/02/2023 08:17

Wait, people have landlines ? 🤨

My furby once woke up a good 10 years after it died. Maybe there's an old toy stuffed somewhere that'd been forgotten.

Things can sound louder in the night, maybe it was outside?

BamBamBilla · 02/02/2023 08:18

Smart meters are definitely condescending

ILoveTeeeeeea · 02/02/2023 08:21

Sky remote, freezer/fridge door open, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine or dryer, hive heating?

Kiitos · 02/02/2023 08:23

This happened to me once when I was staying alone at my parents house. I was woken up by the loudest beep ever, went downstairs to find the source and it happened again. Sounds ridiculous but I was terrified (so loud, middle of the night, isolated house). Never did find out what it was.

Moveoverdarlin · 02/02/2023 08:27

I fucking hate condescending smoke alarms, who do they think they are?

Lifelessordinary1 · 02/02/2023 08:29

Do you have a landline telephone - check the receiver is fully on if you do.

Sparkleshine21 · 02/02/2023 08:29

Thermostat - mine did this when it had dust trapped inside and it took me forever to realise where it was coming from!

Flamingogirl08 · 02/02/2023 08:29

My DSD accidently pressed emergency call on her phone yesterday when it was in her pocket and then it started making a sound like that! We were in the car and I thought it was some sort of warning!
