Vulva owners?!

Tallulah28 · 01/02/2023 18:16

Just came across this (no pun intended!) on Insta. Can someone explain to me how this company can use the “by mums for
mums” advertising ploy yet then go on to reduce us to “vulva owners”?

Vulva owners?!
Vulva owners?!

How thick can you be, advertising to the tiny tiny percentage of trans men who seemingly still enjoy their lady bits, while pissing off the vast majority of women 😄 bit of a backfire there.

To be fair to the vibe-producers, if you only read the description in the main post you wouldn't see the 'vulva-owners'. The main post advertises it repeatedly for mums. Which is why I would scroll past as is class is as not for me, a non baby-birther

PortiasBiscuit · 02/02/2023 06:41

Surely it’s fuck all use without a clitoris anyway, you could jiggle my vulva for three months together and there would be no happy ending.
I suppose clitoris owners is a bit much even for these morons.
Gawd, This is SO depressing!

NellietheElephantpackedhertrunks · 02/02/2023 06:43

I’m still just renting mine due to the COL crisis (though I could become an owner (of a Vulva and a massive mansion) if I just stop buying takeaway coffees, I guess).

PortiasBiscuit · 02/02/2023 06:47

and I don’t want to be staring at that thing, every time I open MN for the next three months.

Have you thought about a shared ownership scheme?

derelicte · 02/02/2023 06:59

This has probably been posted already, but is there any reason not to say "for women and trans men"? That would seem the most straightforward and inclusive wording!

TheWitchesAreBackInTown · 02/02/2023 07:05

While I don’t want to be reduced to vulva owner as a general term, in this particular context my first reaction was to see it as a use of coarse language to be humourus (and it did make me smile). I wonder if the tweeter was thinking along these lines rather than the “how can I further the trans cause” lines.

You're giving the tweeter more subtlety than they deserve. This isn't about humour. It's about ideology and language.

I really dislike the condescending emoji at the end of their replies. It feels very passive aggressive.

Jellycatspyjamas · 02/02/2023 07:15

Well that advertising campaign backfired.

I don't think so. There are 100 genders and you'd have to list them all. What about non-binary or agender people. This is literal violence to them.

Or literal nonsense because 'woman' has fuck all to do with identity and everything to do with biology - (i.e. a transman is a woman as is everyone else with a real vagina - TW do not have a real one).

derelicte · 02/02/2023 07:22

Okay so "women and gender diverse people" then 🤷

DietCroak · 02/02/2023 07:29

The dualism apparent in “owners” is interesting and I think underlies a lot of this gender stuff- the idea that there is a you that is separate from your body, that merely owns and inhabits your body as a sort of meat-house.

And what about the baby milk bottle bullet list? FFS, was this thing created by a bunch of smirking 16 year olds?

Why do they say mom and mummas? Why is Mumsnet associated with this ridiculous sexist bullshit?

I would love to own a Volvo for sure. Owning a vulva however, I know first hand (no pun) that a vulva won't get you far in terms of reaching the summit.

FOJN · 02/02/2023 08:18

I think their going to be both surprised and upset when they see this thread; why aren't you mummies grateful we thought about you and have now given you both the means and permission to enjoy sexual pleasure, you'd never have worked that out without us. FFS.

Do better smile maker!

JustStopOilyPoshKids · 02/02/2023 08:22

Surely they would do better as advertising it for women anyway? Its a sex toy. Penis owning folk with cross dressing fetishes could buy them as an affirming prop and make some smiles too.

The irony of using the language "mother" when not all mothers will have given birth. And in our brave new world of modern surrogacy, not all birthing bodies will be mothers

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 02/02/2023 08:34

If you prefer “women” in this context, then you are saying anyone with a vulva (even a surgically constructed one) who could benefit from this product is a woman.

Therefore, you are stating that trans women are women.

”vulva owner” enables the terms “women” and “trans women” to co-exist within the subset “vulva owners”.

Lilavanblue · 02/02/2023 08:35

Newtonsnipple · 01/02/2023 19:41

I think anyone who has grown a baby in their uterus and given birth, clearly wasn't all that dysphoric in the first place.

And I think it's horrific if they then try to gaslight/force their child into not thinking of them as their mother.

There isn't anything in the world MORE womanly, female, whatever you want to call it.

Yes, I also find it interesting how the definition of what it means to be a trans person shifted from someone who’s wildly uncomfortable with their sexed body to a person who wants to be seen and addressed as the opposite sex because… why exactly?

I‘ve met women who didn’t want to have kids, who couldn’t see themselves as mothers - or who decided to have children but still struggled with some physical aspects of it (like a friend who really couldn’t imagine herself doing breastfeeding).

How can someone go through pregnancy and even breastfeed their baby and yet insist that the terms that describe those biological realities somehow don’t apply to them?

Florissant · 02/02/2023 08:36

gettingolderbutcooler · 01/02/2023 18:27

I've got a second hand 55 year old vulva available? Well used but runs fine.
Roomy. Very roomy. No longer needed.

How many careful owners?

In this particular ad they’re specifically mentioning women who have recently given birth though - so that would exclude „surgically constructed vulvas“ anyway. If you want to include those, then why target biological mothers?

I'm not! I don't mind if some non target audience buy this product. They can literally shove it up their arse for all I care!

Naunet · 02/02/2023 08:49

I hate this objectifying language, literally referring to women by what’s between their legs. I’d rather they just called me a cunt and be done with it.

The baby bottle bullet list is ridiculous. It’s like they’re trying to grab the scatterbrained mummy‘s attention with it: „We know you’re busy thinking about milk bottles, but check out what we have here!“

Women and women who think they’re too special to be called women.

Tallulah28 · 02/02/2023 08:52

This exactly. We are told continually that TWAW yet biological women are reduced to “vulva owners”…
