CF and the City

I live in NYC.

A couple of months ago, an old friend got in touch with me for the first time in about a year and expressed that she wanted to come to the US on holiday. I said cool, I'll give you my recommendations for NYC.

Just now, she's said to me "I'm arriving on March 10th and heading to New Orleans on the 17th. Is it still okay for me to stay with you?"

Needless to say, she never even asked. I'm quite breathtaken by the cheek. Last time I saw this girl was 6 years ago, when she....invited herself to stay (different city).

I'm not down to save this girl $2,000 in hotel and convenience bills. But how should I phrase my reply? Hold me back....

Last year I did in fact host my best friend.

He also lives in a major city and is always asking me to come and stay, and he came to NYC to see ME foremost. I still found it extremely annoying to have him, so hosting this girl was absolutely never going to happen.

I was so annoyed at how much shit my bestie talked about my city - it's expensive, it's dirty, it's full of crackheads, my neighborhood is rough... Yeah! Imagine how it is to pay $3200 a month for the privilege!

I lived on the Upper West Side, then just off Times Square, and then ended up Lower East.

@ImmigrantAlice Harlem. It's actually a great neighborhood when you get used to it, but can be shocking for tourists.

I never got to spend any time there. I worked near the Rockefeller centre, and life was mainly there and South for me.

Well done for saying no to her. You never even said yes in the first place but I know situations with CF like this aren't nice and not what you want to be spending your time replying to.

To have someone stay with you would have to be family or a close friend, for me anyway.

If you pay $3,200 a.month in rent how much do you earn and what do you do?! I'm rewatching SATC from the start with DH and love it. Not been to NYC for a few years and watching the show makes me want to go back

i see you’ve responded but another tactic is to be super vague. ‘Imagine! That would be so fun! I’m away some of those days but I’m sure we can figure something out’ and then just ignore a lot…
