To think that a man standing outside a school in girls uniform is not OK?

Name changed as this is very local and he was seen wearing my DD's school uniform.

A local school uniform shop shared images to reassure parents they would not be selling him any items. Essex police say he poses no risk and people should stop sharing the photos. He looks to be late 50s/early 60s.

He's been seen around schools - both primary and secondary - dressed as a school girl (in their uniform). I am fucking outraged that the police don't seem to think that's an issue. God forbid we offend men or shame their fetishes.

AIBU that this must be an antisocial behaviour at the very least?

Unfortunately fashion choices are not a crime and neither is standing outside schools. But i do think its wierd.

Shemovesshemoves21 · 20/01/2023 08:45

That's incredibly odd behaviour. What have the school said about it? Are there any additional measures they're taking to ensure the safety of students?

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 20/01/2023 08:45

I would be raising hell with the school head and governors. It’s not a fashion choice, it’s a fetish and he is getting off standing there.

Ricco12 · 20/01/2023 08:46

Yes definitely no ok but I guess he isn't breaking any laws.

Very creepy though and hopefully parents warm their kids to stay away from him.

Annoyingwurringnoise · 20/01/2023 08:46

One of these men whose hard drive needs to be looked at.

ElfHasBeenSilly · 20/01/2023 08:46

Jesus fucking Christ. I’d interpret that as sexual offending.

Westfacing · 20/01/2023 08:47

Maybe one of the local dads could have a word with him?

Hoppinggreen · 20/01/2023 08:47

It’s awful but I suppose the issue is whether he is actually breaking any laws.

Calling @EastLondon Observer

this seems to be one where we need your wisdom and experience.

This is the new world anyone is entitled to be anything they want and where they want

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 20/01/2023 08:49

I agree with you crinkle

Davros · 20/01/2023 08:50

Our local senior schools had regular visits from a man on a bike with a loud hailer. He used to spout controversial political views and conspiracy theories. The kids took the piss. The Police warned him, it was in the local paper. He was not in fetish gear so perhaps he would have fared better if he had been

crinklemum2 · 20/01/2023 08:50

Local paper article here:

The photos are still on the school uniform shop Facebook but I won't share for obvious reasons.

I saw him described on Twitter as a “grotty old perv” and I thought that was perfect. What’s unbelievable is the police have spoken to him and decided he’s not a risk (yeah, I’ll trust their judgment!) and asked that people stop sharing pictures of him as it might upset him! If I were local I’d be calling my MP and my local police and crime commissioner and kicking up a bloody stink. He is imposing his fetish on children.

Soubriquet · 20/01/2023 08:50

That’s not all he’s doing. He’s riding the bus where school children are riding, dressed in the uniform, and taking pictures of the kids

lunar1 · 20/01/2023 08:51

I think you need a rotating group of parents to loiter with him. After all, it wouldn't be breaking any rules to have a bunch of adults outside the school at all times will it.

Backtoreality1 · 20/01/2023 08:51

He is not breaking the law.....not sure what you would expect the school to do other than reinforce stranger danger message. Of course if he came onto their grounds that is another matter.

Davros · 20/01/2023 08:52

Then the law is an ass

Stranger danger is an outdated, an unsafe, notion that only strangers pose a risk.

I don't expect the school to do anything. I expect the police to keep kids safe.

That’s weird and creepy as fuck but what are the police actually supposed to do? It’s not against the law to dress a certain way and stand outside of a school. I guess if they were to arrest him, there’s legally nothing they can actually arrest him for?

Holdmycoat · 20/01/2023 08:53

Wouldn't he be classed as loitering though? If he is doing this around a school can't they at least send him on his way?

Untitledsquatboulder · 20/01/2023 08:54

barneshome · 20/01/2023 08:48

This is the new world anyone is entitled to be anything they want and where they want

...but only if they are men.

Of course its a fetish.

baublingon · 20/01/2023 08:54

How far does it have to go before police/the school are allowed to intervene? Would a man in a nappy standing outside a nursery school also be seen as a quirky choice?

baublingon · 20/01/2023 08:55

quirky fashion choice, I mean

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 20/01/2023 08:55

Outrageous, I agree. Is there not some sort of rule about only pupils being allowed to wear their school uniform and only in school, to and from and on school business? If not, there perhaps should be
