To not feel safe in changing rooms anymore?

nypost.com/2023/01/14/sighting-of-trans-womans-penis-in-ymca-locker-room-sparks-tears/

Another story about an inappropriate man in a woman's changing room - is this what we are going to see more of in the UK now too? Having been both flashed and sexually assaulted in a public place, this chills me to the bone. Men who get a thrill out of exposing themselves to women will use any opportunity to do so. To think that they won't abuse women's spaces is to be wilfully and dangerously naive.

YANBU - Not unreasonable to think that flashing is flashing regardless of self ID and magical feelings.

YABU - Be kind to men etc etc

🤣🤣🤣 what anti trans crowd?! Really? A blind man running for the bus could see the transphobia on this site

Saying "no" to trans women is not transphobia.

Asserting that the wants of trans women (male) override those of female people, up to and including their privacy, political voice and even the right to hold onto their historic name "woman", is misogny.

HTH

No woman would use the term 'hysteria'. Exhibit A. Anyone involved in womens rights recognises the sex-based rights our foresister feminists fought for, and wouldn't take a shit on their graves.

As link after link after link, government data after government data shows, it is not 'whataboutery'. It has actually HAPPENED. Hundreds of times.

Yes dear. And this is why I say there is no point debating with people like you because now you’ve decided I can’t possibly be a woman? Get a grip.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/01/2023 18:10

How is it related?

Well, for one thing, all males being free to use formerly female only spaces makes it easier to covertly film women getting changed. And put it on porn sites.

For another thing, I suggest you do some research about autogynephilia and "sissy hypno" fantasies. Do you understand that the motivation for "transitioning" can be sexual? Where do you think all the "transvestites" of the 80s/90s went? You are extremely naive.

No, you won't debate because you know your position does not hold up to scrutiny. That's why you all come on here, drop a few turds, then run off when challenged.

If you can't understand how men are different from women even on a fundamental basic level and how women are vulnerable and also deserve privacy and dignity, then I don't know what else to say to you. Your posts demonstrate an incredible lack of critical thinking and basic common sense.

I just don't think the same way that you do about this.

I am a woman with daughters, I just don't think this is our biggest threat.

Pornography is a much much bigger issue and tainting young people's views on sex and relationships

All these arguments went on about gay people

I honestly, hand on heart, feel awful for your poor daughters

Well being filmed getting changed when men have access to the changing room is one. You're obviously very naive. There's whole fucking websites dedicated to hidden cameras in women's changing rooms! There's been police officers that have been charged for filming women in changing rooms! Do you never watch or read the news?

I don't watch the news, it's full of misery. If I spent my life worrying about all this then I'd be unhappy and bitter. Perhaps I'm naive, I don't think so. I've lived in many countries and travelled all over for years. Just not going to get upset about this.

Is this really the worst thing that can happen in the world. I would much rather a video of me ended up on the internet vs a transwoman be attacked or even killed in a males changing room for being trans.

What we need is an end to single sex changing rooms, toilets, gyms etc. Make everything one room with lockable cubicles. It would also reduce the risk of attacks regardless of gender, as it's more likely someone else would be in the room so it would be harder to attack someone.

Well that's not the porn that concerns me.

I'm concerned about main stream porn, porn that young people will watch which involves anal, strangulation, spitting etc as the norm. That's worries me far more than this bollocks

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/01/2023 18:15

Bully for you. I manage to be concerned about more than one issue, and they are related, as I said.

You don't know your genders from your sex and you're telling folk to get a grip?

Iporn. Yes. It worries me, too. Young men and boys accessing ever more extreme porn, and don't be naive, trans porn is massive; all getting some grotesque idea of what women are and what women like. Having sexual relationships distorted, objectifying and using women for gratification. Absolutely terrifying, and absolutely another massive reason why women need to have spaces away from the male gaze, from men who view them as objects, who see the female state as so low that aping them is the ultimate sexual humiliation.

mbosnz · 15/01/2023 18:17

It's not about whether we as individuals are okay with ending up on the internet.

For some women, that could be life threatening - think honour killings.

Or it could crush them, completely. One of the strongest young women I know was upskirted. The effect on her was so much worse than I would have imagined. It's a violation. Of trust, of privacy, and of course, as women, we are trained to blame ourselves. Shouldn't have been wearing a skirt, aye?

So porn made by filming a woman without her knowledge 'doesn't concern you'.

But porn that is made with the knowledge, consent and willing participation of the woman does? You're posts are getting more bizarre if you don't care about porn made without womens consent.

Anyone can use a mix sex space, woman who chose not to say on religion/moral grounds are being excluded by their choice. By excluding transwoman (also define when they become women, is it post surgery or post hormones) we are excluding them.

They could use men’s spaces, but are self excluding by choice.

Their feelings are not more important than women’s needs.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 15/01/2023 18:17

@Burgoo I stopped reading your post when you said:

"Feelings do not mean facts. I can “feel” threatened but it does not mean I AM threatened."

Do you not see the irony in what you've said? This is the whole point... a man saying he feels like a woman doesn't mean he is one. Trans women are trans women. They are not women.

Why is it that if trans women feel unsafe in the men's changing room, it's ok for them to go into the women's?

But if women say they feel unsafe because trans women are in the women's changing room they're accused of being transphobic?

Why aren't men being accused of being transphobic for not letting trans women feel comfortable in the men's changing room?

GrumpyPanda · 15/01/2023 18:18

Florissant · 15/01/2023 15:29

I wondered the same thing but suspect that are the Nordic countries and Japan. I also suspect that the changing rooms relate to saunas and hot baths (can't recall the Japanese term) rather than shops for trying on clothing.

But I could be wrong.

Neither Japan nor the Nordics indulge in mixed sexed changing rooms. Different from continental Europe where it is a holdover from the nudist movement and hence tightly socially controlled, even mixed sex sauna is frowned upon. The gyms or pools I've been to are mostly large single sex communal areas, communal showers, and often a communal sauna integrated on both the men's and the women's side.

This poster has been called on this glaring contradiction before.

All we can conclude is that men's feelings trump women's reality and feelings. Simple really.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 15/01/2023 18:20

Pornography is a much much bigger issue and tainting young people's views on sex and relationships

I agree pornography is a huge issue. I'm glad we agree on something.

I am aware of what teenage boys and young men are watching, and how it normalises and fetishises girls and women being hurt and girls being upset, to the point that young women are reporting their boyfriends are aroused by the sound of girls crying. One girl shared on social media that her boyfriend told her that he couldn't stay to comfort her when she was grieving her grandfather's death, because her tears gave him an erection. I'm sure you're aware of this too.

Are you aware that Primark has, as a matter of policy, unisex changing rooms across all its stores? As in, normal curtained cubicles, but men and women use the same room.

Do you think these young men treat women and girls with respect? If you were a teenage girl, being subjected to sexual harassment from male peers at school, would you trust those male peers not to "accidentally" pull your curtain back in Primark as they passed?

Find one example of a trans person being killed in the UK at all in the past few years let alone just in changing rooms.

Are you really telling me you’d be fine having videos without your consent being taken and posted on the internet because of a hyperbolic statement that has no substance? That’s really fucked up.

We see article after article of women being harassed in changing rooms. We are told that trans women can’t use men’s changing rooms but where is the evidence for this? Show us.
