To not feel safe in changing rooms anymore?

nypost.com/2023/01/14/sighting-of-trans-womans-penis-in-ymca-locker-room-sparks-tears/

Another story about an inappropriate man in a woman's changing room - is this what we are going to see more of in the UK now too? Having been both flashed and sexually assaulted in a public place, this chills me to the bone. Men who get a thrill out of exposing themselves to women will use any opportunity to do so. To think that they won't abuse women's spaces is to be wilfully and dangerously naive.

YANBU - Not unreasonable to think that flashing is flashing regardless of self ID and magical feelings.

YABU - Be kind to men etc etc

I'm not gullible. Don't start throwing insults

If you can't understand how men are different from women even on a fundamental basic level and how women are vulnerable and also deserve privacy and dignity, then I don't know what else to say to you. Your posts demonstrate an incredible lack of critical thinking and basic common sense.

Very rare I’m sure but an awful ordeal for a child.
“Katie Dolatowski Past crimes
“In February 2018 Katie Dolatowski filmed a 12-year-old-girl who was using the toilet in a female bathroom at a supermarket in Dunfermline. A month later, he sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl in the women’s toilets at a supermarket in Kirkcaldy. He grabbed the terrified child by the face, forced her into a cubicle and ordered her to take off her clothes, threatening to stab her if she did not comply.

He pleaded guilty to voyeurism and sexual assault charges and was given a three-year community payback order, placed on the sex offenders register and banned from having any contact with children. In 2019, Dolatowski was back in court twice accused of deleting the internet history on his phone and then of making ‘alarming’ internet searches.

In 2022 it was revealed that Dolatowski had been accommodated in a domestic violence refuge for vulnerable women and children after he tricked the centre’s staff by using a false name and pretending to be an abuse victim to gain access.”

So the changing rooms at my local pool are mixed, with lots of cubicles. People are expected to keep their swimsuit on when they shower (unless it's a cubicle shower) and change IN the lockers. It would be frowned upon for ANYONE to get their genitals out if front of anyone else, whether male, female, trans or whatever. I've never felt unsafe there or in any changing rooms.

Perhaps the answer is fewer flimsy curtains and more cubicles that lock on the inside, rather than mass hysteria and transphobia?

Tbh this may be the answer - I’ve never liked seeing naked women walking about getting changed either, ( and would hate even more to see naked men ) and have always headed for the cubicles but often they aren’t free as so few of them, so I’d welcome more of them and the communal changing becoming less of a thing. If it’s mixed though please get changing rooms cleaned more regularly!!

SueResnes · 15/01/2023 17:57

We need to stop calling them transwomen. They are no kind of women. They love that word "women" which is why they stopped calling them transvestites. They are men. Trans identifying men. TIM.

To be honest, Lincoln, "gullible" is kind as fuck. I'd put you down as "wilfully ignorant" myself.

EpicChaos · 15/01/2023 17:58

@Lincolnremain " you'd be far more realistic to worry about people who have regular contact with children "

Yes, we are! We used to call them teachers/school governors, sadly however, they seem to be far too busy teaching kids this rubbish!

@BillyNotQuiteNoMates " Validating a full range of genders that never existed until now. "

There, i've fixed your post for you. You're welcome!

I just don't think the same way that you do about this.

I am a woman with daughters, I just don't think this is our biggest threat.

Pornography is a much much bigger issue and tainting young people's views on sex and relationships

All these arguments went on about gay people

One’s wearing a dress? Possibly. How do you tell the difference between a man and a trans woman wearing men’s clothes🤷‍♀️ Do you just declare you’re a trans woman and hey presto you’re a woman? I’ve no idea. Years ago you had the occasional transsexual and everyone still got on with their lives but today’s self obsession culture has turned what was a genuine issue into fad/fashion/quick fix answer to their problems that we have to bow down to and just accept the detrimental changes it makes to women’s lives without fuss for fear of being ‘transphobic’. What happened to the word transsexual, why isn’t that being used anymore, oh yeah because most trans women still have, to use Prince Harry’s favourite word, a todger!

Panama2 · 15/01/2023 18:00

I am just trying to get my head round being in a women’s changing room with a young child and having to say that man is a woman because he says he is.

IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 · 15/01/2023 17:13

So you admit you are simply out to upset women on here? How charming of you men.

Have you just assumed my gender? I just find the hysteria on here laughable. FYI I’m heavily involved in women’s rights. Attend buffer zone rallies etc etc I just don’t believe in all the whataboutery from people like you.

There's no issue with boys age 8 + (additional needs apart) changing in male changing rooms.

Why not? I know several men who were assaulted by men when they were kids

And it’s a terrible thing but that isn’t what this thread is about so don’t deflect.

Lincolnremain · 15/01/2023 18:03

And it is hysteria. I bet half of these people don't even know any trans people.

ResisterRex · 15/01/2023 18:03

Keep it comin'. The petition's doing great Wink

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/01/2023 18:03

What about young boys having to change with the males? Just curious?

What about them?

Women losing our human rights and spaces is THE single biggest issue. There are around 250 examples of women being assaulted in womens spaces by men, in only 2 years. How much bigger an issue do you need?

And the phony 'gay people' comparison does not stack up. Because gay people weren't taking away anything from women. A gay man still used male facilities. A lesbian woman still used womens facilities. The analogy is an absurd strawman.

There have been so many examples and data linked on here that show trans women attack women at a HIGHER RATE than other males.

The evidence is in.

TheKeatingFive · 15/01/2023 18:04

All these arguments went on about gay people

No they didn't. That's just really lazy thinking.

Gay rights campaigners never asked others to compromise their own safety or deny biological reality.

VinoDino · 15/01/2023 18:04

Nah, it's usually men who describe women as 'hysterical' in order to silence them. Bore off.

No woman would use the term 'hysteria'. Exhibit A. Anyone involved in womens rights recognises the sex-based rights our foresister feminists fought for, and wouldn't take a shit on their graves.

As link after link after link, government data after government data shows, it is not 'whataboutery'. It has actually HAPPENED. Hundreds of times.

As link after link proves, it is NOT 'hysteria'. I don't personally know any Nazis, but I know enough that I'd protect the rights of Jewish people. You clearly don't know any trans people yourself as you honestly think there is no difference between a trans woman and a man. It's clear you have absolutely no idea whatsoever what you are talking about, and your lack of education in this is obvious.

TheKeatingFive · 15/01/2023 18:08

irrelevant

There was an awful lot of scaremongering and making gay people feel like freaks

Sure, but they didn't demand others compromise their rights or to deny biological reality and that's why your comparison is lazy and irrrelevant.

Always interesting that those posting to say they're not small minded and are fine with mixed sex changing are incidentally fine with excluding and harming the women and girls who cannot use mixed sex spaces.

That seems a bit small minded and unaware to put it mildly. We've got two choices here: find solutions that work for everyone, or exclude a lot of women and girls from anything so that male people can have the full preferred choice from everything.

Anyone can use a mix sex space, woman who chose not to say on religion/moral grounds are being excluded by their choice. By excluding transwoman (also define when they become women, is it post surgery or post hormones) we are excluding them.
