Cheese on toast

saltedpretzel2 · 14/01/2023 20:51

This delicious snack is made by first grilling one side of the bread. Turn it over, cover with cheese and pop back under the grill to melt the cheese yum.

DH thinks you should grill both sides of the bread and then put cheese on the toast and back under the grill to melt. Results in edges being pretty burnt.

AIBU that my way is the correct way to make cheese on toast?

I’m going to be very rebellious and say..cheese sandwich butterd on outside. Put in frying pan and weigh it down with a heavy saucepan, turn when brown. Yum.
land yes op is right. But you forgot the tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce. And cuppa and Novel.

Team DH.
I sometimes put ketchup on the toast before the cheese, if I’m feeling particularly grubby.

A friend persuaded me to try coleslaw on top of the toasted cheese. I'm a convert!! Try it one day!!

One of my exes version of cheese on toast was bread with slices of cheese on and melted in the microwave. I was mortified when he brought it out to me!

Bertha21 · 14/01/2023 22:51

Team dh sorry!

newtb · 14/01/2023 22:52

OP you are right!

FancyFanny · 14/01/2023 22:53

YANBU! I do it same way as you OP!

thelionthewitchtheaudacityofTHISbitch · 14/01/2023 22:53

Team DH here. The burnt bits of toast tell you it is cheese on TOAST surely!!

I lightly toast in the toaster then cover every single part of one side with cheese.

When I'm not on low carb 😫

This! With either a dollop of HP brown sauce on the plate for dipping or drizzled with Henderson’s Relish 😍

I’m glad he is an ex.

May have been said already, but I butter the bread, stick extra mature cheddar in the middle and use toaster pocket in the toaster. Then butter the toasted side aswell when done.

OMG I am supposed to be doing the 16/8 intermittent fasting thing and I have been very good up to now. I am going to make one this minute.

Peanut1991 · 14/01/2023 22:57

I do it your dhs way. Toast one side fully, lightly toast other side, cheese on and toast until it melts.

I toast it in the toaster ie both sides before cheesing.

Wetblanket78 · 14/01/2023 23:08

I make it up as a sandwich butter both sides of bread and stick in the air fryer. Sometimes put uncooked bacon in it as well shock horror. The grill on our cooker stopped working so that's why I tried the air fryer. Comes out spot on.

For the Welsh rarebit lovers:

I discovered recently you'd can make this in bulk, stick it in the fridge and eat over the course of about a week.

I then do put my bread in the toaster before spreading with cooled rarebit and sticking it under the grill, but I am prepared to try toasting only one side...

Neveranynamesleft · 14/01/2023 23:11

Bread lightly toasted both sides in toaster, put cheese all over the top, no need for butter. Put thin slices of onion over the cheese, pop under the grill till just a little brown and bubbly... then add splashes of ketchup. Delish....

I love a jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw, so I think I will try it!

Crucible · 14/01/2023 23:12

I bought a toaster with a bagel setting for the purposes of cheese on toast making where one side only gets toasted before the other side goes under the grill with cheese. Burnt edges are as bad as damp bread.

HRTQueen · 14/01/2023 20:54

You are right

your dh is wrong

and best cheese on toast is made under a gas grill sadly it’s not the same under an electric grill so rarely make it now though it’s the best snack/tea every

I like cheddar or Cheshire

YES the gas grill is the BEST!

I'm all electric 😭

GerronBuzanDoThaWomwok · 14/01/2023 23:15

You're right...then when the cheese is golden, top it with baked beans
Food of the Gods
😂

Salamander91 · 14/01/2023 23:16

You're right. My husband didn't used to toast either side before putting the cheese on and ended up with floppy melted cheese bread 😩 I've made him see the error of his ways now.

Enko · 14/01/2023 23:16

ClementWeatherToday · 14/01/2023 20:52

Your husband is correct. You seem to be making cheese on bread!? If the edges burn you're not using enough cheese...

this 100% don't skimp on the cheese.

now I want cheese on toast..

shinynewapple22 · 14/01/2023 23:23

Definitely toast both sides of the bread before adding the cheese .
