Cheese on toast

This delicious snack is made by first grilling one side of the bread. Turn it over, cover with cheese and pop back under the grill to melt the cheese yum.

DH thinks you should grill both sides of the bread and then put cheese on the toast and back under the grill to melt. Results in edges being pretty burnt.

AIBU that my way is the correct way to make cheese on toast?

We've invented a variation (for crust refusing DCs) using a tortilla wrap, grated cheese in the middle, fold into a square envelope and toast in the toaster. Maybe a kind of quesadilla?

I just wandered over to Wikipedia, what with it being the proper place to go for info and all that but not really, they basically covered both bases by saying, one or both sides toasted.
Grilled cheese is the us version and I don't want to know what cheese is used.

He also ate kitkats like a psycho.

How do you eat KitKats like a psycho? Does it involve stabby movements towards the gob?

I used to do it your way but it comes out floppy.

I now toast both sides pre cheese.

You are right. The cheese should be melted onto the untoasted side so that you have a nice moist centre under the cheese and anbolutely no burnt edges.

I thought so too @Twillow** but apparently you "grill" it in a skillet. I mean... I've done it, and it works but there's more grease involved. You melt butter in the pan, the. butter the bread and put it butter side down with the cheese on top.

I’m going to be very rebellious and say..cheese sandwich butterd on outside. Put in frying pan and weigh it down with a heavy saucepan, turn when brown. Yum.
land yes op is right. But you forgot the tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce. And cuppa and Novel.

That is a grilled cheese sandwich.
