Cheese on toast

This delicious snack is made by first grilling one side of the bread. Turn it over, cover with cheese and pop back under the grill to melt the cheese yum.

DH thinks you should grill both sides of the bread and then put cheese on the toast and back under the grill to melt. Results in edges being pretty burnt.

AIBU that my way is the correct way to make cheese on toast?

YABU. In the toaster. Butter, cheese, under the grill.

I toast both sides, one lighter than the other then cover in cheese on the lightest side. With a dash of Lea & Perrins on top. I love cheese on toast.

But you have to put the Worcester sauce on the cheese before you melt it and then it melts into the cheese and top of the toast. I do both sides the same toastiness but OP's way is blatantly WRONG.

Interesting split.

Ketchup or onion chutney are the only suitable condiments

I now really want cheese on toast

Ah, but have you tried a ham cheese tomato onion toastie, and then when you take it off the grill, open that bad boy right up and add a dollop of fresh coleslaw?

Gamechanger!

Since I read this thread I've been so adventurous with my cheese on toast and converted to one side toasted, the other raw (ha) before cheese is added. Yes, it's floppier. But I actually think it might be nicer!

Umm... toaster, then for 30-60s in the microwave, and then a few drops of Tabasco. that's my culinary heaven but I am a barbarian!!

Even better with slices of tomato under the cheese or for the ultimate indulgence first spread peanut butter and then out the cheese on it.

I usually do it your DH's way but I don't feel very strongly about it. I might try it the other way next time to see if I can even detect a difference.
