Limerance

I've seen a couple of threads recently where the word "limerence" has been used. It's not a word I'm familiar with so have googled it.

AIBU to be confused about it? Isn't it just a crush where you fantasise about a possible happy ever after future, or is there much more to it?

Where do you draw the line between a crush and limerence?

Any examples may be helpful.

Thanks!

@WhereHasTheYoungMeGone yeah, the last ones started like that. And then became a hub for all the creepy stalkers swapping tips and tales of obsession that 'wasn't their fault'

@ChocChipOwl You appear to have limerance for this thread 😂

In all seriousness, nobody on here is swapping stories on how to stalk. The majority of people who’ve said they’ve experienced limerance have said they’ve done so without the person they’re obsessing over even knowing. They’re not giving tips and tricks on how to bump into your crush.

Please stop trying to make this into something it isn’t.

@Aussiegirl123456 is right they're not doing that here. That's the limerence group, somewhere else, I saw who were doing that.

I'm sure nobody would tolerate that here.

The problem is, that when a thread is allowed to stand, as this one is, you get all the 'limerents' (what a word!) pooling together swapping stories and hints and tips and it's just weird and creepy.

And no, I don't want to educate myself further.

Of course you don't. That would stop your fun and compromise your ignorance.

Just out of interest, who made you the thread police?

For me limerance was a very definite OCD linked mental health issue. It was a crush that went obsessive compulsive and I thought I was losing my bloody mind. (I have OCD btw). Luckily I am very very aware of my behaviour and coping strategies for the ‘compulsive’ bit of the ocd so it never actually resulted in embarrassing or unhealthy/problem behaviours for me however I can totally see how it may for some people who aren’t able to manage those feelings. It is absolutely terrifying how it managed to dominate my thoughts and could have been hugely disruptive to my life.

@baroqueandblue and don't let me spoil your obsessive fun!
