Parent in pyjamas at this time

My daughter (9) had her friend over for a sleepover last night but her friend got home sick. Her mum is a single mum and has a younger child and was in the house alone so I offered to drop the friend home, so did that at 1 am. Came home, and didn't manage to get to sleep till about half 2.

So today I decided we were just having a day in the house. I went for a shower and put on fresh jammies. My daughter closed the living room curtains to watch a film and be 'cosy'.

Suddenly there's a knock at the door. I answer and it's friends lovely mum with a bunch of lovely flowers for me to thank me for last night. I thanked her and said she didn't need to do that and off she went.

I am now just so affronted what she must think of me, living room curtains closed at 2 in the afternoon, me in my pyjamas, not a scratch of make up on (and I have really red, bad skin) and I just keep cringing thinking what must she think of me.

In those circumstances would you judge a parent for the same reasons? Or am I overthinking?

I don't get dressed unless I am leaving the house... So like 3 times a week 🙈

bagelsandcheese · 06/01/2023 15:28

I always wear pjs in the house. Don't like wearing out door clothes inside I like to feel comfy. il always be in pjs if someone came to door.

NoSquirrels · 06/01/2023 15:30

igotatext · 06/01/2023 15:15

I bloody didn't say that, kicking myself

Just text her then. ‘Thanks so much for the flowers, you are so kind! Totally didn’t expect it - as you might have guessed from our movie day PJs!😂’

Beseen22 · 06/01/2023 15:31

Everytime someone arrives and I'm in pjs (90% of the time) I say 'sorry I'm just off nightshift' I'm usually not, I just crave the comfort

willingtolearn · 06/01/2023 15:31

Those that mind don't matter and those that matter, don't mind.

lightand · 06/01/2023 15:34

I did knock on the door of someone in the village at 6.30pm and the lady was in her pjs.
I did think, gosh. But that is my bad not theirs.

TabithaTittlemouse · 06/01/2023 15:34

If she is the sort of person to bring you flowers I’m sure that she wouldn’t be the sort of person who judges you.

I’m in my pjs now because I’m on nights. I don’t care what anyone thinks.

TheMousePipes · 06/01/2023 15:35

I’ve just got out of mine to do the school run.

audweb · 06/01/2023 15:35

Isn’t the point of being in your house being comfortable? I change as soon as I’m through the door into either pj’s or comfy joggers. Why would any one judge you for being comfortable in your own house? I wouldn’t even worry about it.

FellOnMyArseToDay · 06/01/2023 15:35

She wouldnt of judged you. We all need a nightie day from time to day I’ve been in my night dress for two days. Haven’t washed or anything. You’re entitled to a nightie day.

Scurryfunge12 · 06/01/2023 15:35

I live in my pyjamas except when I have to go out and now I feel like a weirdo! 🤣

ILoveeCakes · 06/01/2023 15:36

She obviously thinks you're a slattern and will post about it on SM.
In fact, some hilarious person will probably do a reverse in a minute..........

I aspire to be like you :D genuinely.

FromTheFront2theBack · 06/01/2023 15:36

It really wouldn't phase me unless you were also blind drunk and smoking a joint. Everyone has pj days. I doubt she gave it a moment's thought.

DiddlyDoris · 06/01/2023 15:39

I love my PJs.
Shower in the morning and putting new fresh PJs on is pure bliss, obvs if I'm not going out anywhere. I wouldn't judge at all.

ChimChimeny · 06/01/2023 15:40

Whostoblame · 06/01/2023 15:22

As soon as I'm home I'm in PJs. I work from home wearing an oodie and answer the door wearing it and leggings or pj's bottoms all the time, which depends on whether I've been out that day/am going out later 🤣 I wouldn't give it a second thought.

this is what i was going to say! I'm still off work but wearing my giant hoody, jogging bottoms & fluffy socks, could easily be taken for pyjamas.

I think since COVID & WFH people are so much more casual at home especially now it's cold

weRone · 06/01/2023 15:42

you're absolutely fine! It's the new year, mid winter and people are laying low.

LoveAHolidayOrTwo · 06/01/2023 15:42

I wear pyjama bottoms with regular sweatshirts all the time in my house, that works well.

KillingLoneliness · 06/01/2023 15:42

You’re overthinking it, if I’m at home with no plans you can bet I’ll be in my Pjs!

bananaboats · 06/01/2023 15:44

I pretty much only wear pjs in the house so plenty of people have seen me in mine!

NumberTheory · 06/01/2023 15:45

If you’d just had my kid for a sleep over I would assume you got no sleep and were taking some well deserved down time.

KillingLoneliness · 06/01/2023 15:45

Sartre · 06/01/2023 15:21

I’ll go against the grain and say I probably would be a bit judgemental. I wouldn’t hold it against you and definitely wouldn’t say anything but I would be wondering why a grown adult is sitting in pyjamas with the curtains drawn in the middle of the afternoon unless they’re very sick with the flu or something, yes.

I don’t think it’s very usual behaviour? I’m probably too uptight but I’d feel really depressed if I had pyjamas on in the afternoon!

You don’t know what you’re missing, a pj day is pure bliss! 😂

niugboo · 06/01/2023 15:46

@Sartre you're missing out. Once a month we get up, clean the house and then shower and put on clean pyjamas. For the whole day. It’s bliss!

ortonym · 06/01/2023 15:48

TheMousePipes · 06/01/2023 15:35

I’ve just got out of mine to do the school run.

Where I live, that's called "posh".

HeadNorth · 06/01/2023 15:48

I am afraid I would be judging you in my head - I don't understand people who wear PJs during the day. This incident is the perfect example of why lounge wear was invented.
