Parent in pyjamas at this time

My daughter (9) had her friend over for a sleepover last night but her friend got home sick. Her mum is a single mum and has a younger child and was in the house alone so I offered to drop the friend home, so did that at 1 am. Came home, and didn't manage to get to sleep till about half 2.

So today I decided we were just having a day in the house. I went for a shower and put on fresh jammies. My daughter closed the living room curtains to watch a film and be 'cosy'.

Suddenly there's a knock at the door. I answer and it's friends lovely mum with a bunch of lovely flowers for me to thank me for last night. I thanked her and said she didn't need to do that and off she went.

I am now just so affronted what she must think of me, living room curtains closed at 2 in the afternoon, me in my pyjamas, not a scratch of make up on (and I have really red, bad skin) and I just keep cringing thinking what must she think of me.

In those circumstances would you judge a parent for the same reasons? Or am I overthinking?

Could be worse - my recycling bin blew over in the wind the other night and I was chasing gin and wine bottles up and down the street in my pyjamas :)

Gave up worrying what others think long time ago....so long as I am decently covered its no-one elses business

MrsDotCotton · 06/01/2023 15:50

Most people are in PJs when at home. The weather is shit, there's nothing worth going out for. I had a shower and changed into fresh PJs. I like these no make up days and think they are good for your face. Nothing except serum and moisturiser and eyebrow serum. Don't worry!

NeverHadANickname · 06/01/2023 15:51

If I'm not working I'm in my pajamas 😁

picklemewalnuts · 06/01/2023 15:53

You were dressed at her door at 1am, she knows you've every excuse for being in PJs at 2pm.

There's honestly no need to impress someone who brought your child home to you at 1am. They are clearly an excellent parent, kind and compassionate. You've already won, she brought you flowers.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/01/2023 15:54

I would be thinking : why aren't I cosy at home with my pyjamas on?

BurtonsRevenge · 06/01/2023 15:56

She thinks you are a lazy slob, but won't say it , so nothing cam really be done !

JustAWeirdoWithNoName · 06/01/2023 15:56

I would not judge at all. My DH hates typical leisure wear (jogging bottoms etc) so wears pyjama trousers to work from home all day every day - we have workmen at the moment, he takes in parcels, and we even had someone come in to value our old place with him in his PJs. Not that different to leggings is it really.

I am afraid I would be judging you in my head - I don't understand people who wear PJs during the day. This incident is the perfect example of why lounge wear was invented.

"Lounge wear"? Are you Noel Coward?

FlamingoSocks · 06/01/2023 15:59

Can you not text and say “thanks so much for the flowers, insert pleasantry about her child, gave me good excuse to have a pyjama and movie day today, see you at school gate next week”

Comedycook · 06/01/2023 16:01

I often get changed into my dressing gown as soon as I'm home if I'm not going out again that day. I wouldn't blink an eye at someone in pjs at home.

BraveFaceScaredInside · 06/01/2023 16:02

Meh pyjamas are just clothes with a different name 😉 I literally had that conversation with a friend yesterday lol.

OnTheRoadAgain1 · 06/01/2023 16:06

You dropped off at 1am then presumably didn't get to sleep immediately. Even without that, most people love a pyjama day. Nowhere to go, just chilling out!

She's a single Mum and being one myself, I'm betting she's had a few PJ days herself and just showing appreciation that you were dropping off children early hours of the morning.

If it makes you feel better you can make a joke next time you see her but I guarantee she'll have thought nothing of it. I'd be embarrassed someone had to drop off my child at that time and also embarrassed if caught in my PJ's in the afternoon...moral of the story is, we judge ourselves more harshly than other people do so you are both fine!

I agree. I can’t imagine getting showered and putting pyjamas back on. I wouldn’t do it, I would wear leggings and a sweatshirt but for me, I like to be dressed during the day and do find it a bit odd but that’s just me

Gemaski · 06/01/2023 16:07

Growing up we never had pyjama days I don't think it was the 'done' thing, now we have a pyjama day every weekend, they are so busy all week it's nice to have a day dedicated to laze about. I think this attitude is thankfully becoming more normalised

"Lounge wear"? Are you Noel Coward?

I mean, M&S market ‘lounge wear’ so not sure this is totally unusual phrase.

I have a mixture of pjs and ‘lounge wear’ on right now (sweatshirt, pj bottoms, Ugg boots) and it’s lovely.

She won’t have judged OP.

CousinKrispy · 06/01/2023 16:08

Please don't worry about it, OP, I certainly wouldn't judge!

I literally only wear pyjama's as lounge wear and not night wear, so comfortable!

InFiveMins · 06/01/2023 16:09

I wouldn't think twice about it. It's fine.

BradfordGirl · 06/01/2023 16:10

I would I admit wonder if you were coping okay or just lazy.

itsgettingweird · 06/01/2023 16:10

I'd think good for you after dropping my child home in the early hours!

Homecomin · 06/01/2023 16:11

I wouldn’t think anything of it but I only wear pyjamas in the house. I change as soon as I get home. Even if I’m going out later

whattodo1975 · 06/01/2023 16:11

she might not judge but might have a worry that you may be depressed.

Starlightstarbright1 · 06/01/2023 16:12

I have been off sick.am.better today but just changed pj's..

I wouldn't have batted an eyelid.

Cileymyrus · 06/01/2023 16:13

I work night shifts. It’s entirely normal for me to answer the door at 2pm having just got out of bed and thrown on a dressing gown.

I’m sure the Evri bloke thinks I’m a slob but who cares 😂
