To ask what age you stopped enjoying going “out out”

Just that really. I’m 29 and living in the city as a working professional. Up until the last 6 months or so, I guess you could say I’ve very much lived a ‘work hard, play hard’ sort of lifestyle involving a lot of socialising, drinking and late nights out. Over the past few months it’s as though a switch has been flipped and suddenly it’s just no fun anymore. The idea of a cosy night in, or a nice meal out with a couple of drinks and being back at home and in bed by 12pm is far more appealing!

The majority of my friends here in the city around my age are still very much in to the party way of life and are showing no signs of slowing down… so I wondered, when did the switch happen for you?!

People who call ugh ya out boring aren’t going with the right people or are actually boring themselves 🙊

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 04/01/2023 18:22

*nights not ugh ya WTF autocorrect

PollyCreo · 04/01/2023 18:23

I yearn to go out out but the pandemic and menopause mean none of my sexy clothes and shoes fit me any more 😢

There was a HUGE buzz weeks ago on my local FB page about a retro nightclub opening, it promised 70s, 80s and 90s music. My friend and I were really excited as it was within walking distance... our bubble was burst when they announced 'Doors open at 23.00' 😭😴

Lucimaya · 04/01/2023 18:24

Early 20's. But started going out at 16 in those days!

Needmorelego · 04/01/2023 18:25

@chocolateflapjacks I hope I am not too boring 🤣
I have just always prefered doing 'stuff' in the daytime. I wanted in my 'youth' days to be doing things like going for a country walk, swimming at the fun pool, visiting exhibitions, going on a search for antiques, going to a beach....but come the evening I wanted to be at home settling down for the day.
But I couldn't ever find anyone who wanted to do that with me 😕 All my friends just wanted to go to the pub or clubbing. I just found that boring. I have never understood the appeal.

Grassynoel · 04/01/2023 18:26

Probably around 26ish. I actually get anxiety if I have a night out coming up and do all I can to avoid it. I don't know why.

MajorCarolDanvers · 04/01/2023 18:26

I'm 49 and enjoy a night out.

Hope I will continue to do so for decades to come.

AllyPallyWally · 04/01/2023 18:26

I'm 25 and not been on a 'proper' night out since before COVID!! Much prefer going out at 7/8pm and back home in bed for 12, or day drinking for a big event. The thought of going to a nightclub fills me with dread.

Sparklesocks · 04/01/2023 18:28

I’m 35 and still love to go out late to bars/pubs with friends but can’t be bothered with clubs - too crowded, long queues etc!

Mummadeze · 04/01/2023 18:28

Am taking a break. Am 48. Stopped during the lockdown. Hope I will get a second wind in my 50s though!

1000yellowdaisies · 04/01/2023 18:28

Probably about 30 when i got married and had kids. Couldn't be bothered having a hangover with two small people to look after the next day. Im 36 now and really don't miss it. I started going clubbing with my older sister when i was 15 so i know what I'm missing and i don't care.
Still enjoy going to pubs and restaurants for meals, but clubs and bars until 2am ... not at all.

Joytotheworld88 · 04/01/2023 18:29

I was the biggest party animal until about 28/29. Just before I met my husband. I still enjoyed the music and dancing, but didn't enjoy the being drunk/hungover part and gradually more and more of my friends stopped going out as they started a family. Getting properly dressed up was too much effort, much prefer being comfy now! As I get older I get less tolerant of other people, particularly idiotic youths and pervy men in bars! Now I'm 34 with a baby I don't think I'll be going on a night out for the foreseeable future!

HelenHywater · 04/01/2023 18:29

I've never stopped enjoying going out and I'm 52. I get bored if I spend more than 2 or 3 nights in a row sitting in.

AuntieMarys · 04/01/2023 18:30

I'm in my 60s and I like day drinking/ socialising ....home by 7 for a boxed set

Roominmyhouse · 04/01/2023 18:34

I’m 40, I still love the occasional out out sort of night out but they stopped being regular in my mid thirties I think? No DC and we like to go drinking still but will go out early afternoon and be home in bed by 10pm instead.

Dogsgottabone · 04/01/2023 18:34

Mid 20s when I met DH. He doesn't like dancing so we never went to a club together.

Now I'm 44 with two teens and I'm in bed by 8.30 every night and even the idea of going out for dinner horrifies me.

Zola1 · 04/01/2023 18:39

I'm 31 and absolutely cannot be bothered with a night out in town.. I like a gig or an event but not just going out trawling bars!

Mariposista · 04/01/2023 18:43

Needmorelego · 04/01/2023 17:21

I think I was bored of 'going out' by the age of about 15 🤣
I never enjoyed it.
Pubs, clubs, bars... just boring. Utterly boring.

Me too!

Yants · 04/01/2023 18:46

I'm another one who even in my teens found pubs, clubs and drinking just boring and I'd rather have been at home with my dog but I did it just to fit in and conform with my peers.

Needmorelego · 04/01/2023 18:49

@Mariposista @Yants yay !! Glad it's not just me 🙂

MaryJean87 · 04/01/2023 18:49

About 25 when I got pregnant with my second child. I had my first at 20 but still managed to go out most weekends as was still living at home so had family available to babysit. But after I'd moved out and was having my 2nd, I just focused on being a mum. I suppose I could have made time to go out again but I kind of lost interest in it. I'd been out clubbing every week since the age of 17 and was done with it.

SherbetDips · 04/01/2023 18:50

Never enjoyed it in the first place! 😂

Murasakispillowbook · 04/01/2023 18:51

I always liked a country pub but I don't think I really enjoyed clubs til I was in my mid-late 20s. Then I seemed to come into my own!

I'd love the opportunity now but kids, work etc. Priorities.

HoneyIShrunkThePizza · 04/01/2023 18:51

Early thirties with kids and still enjoy it but mostly when I go to another city, I suppose I feel free if responsibility. And I like somewhere more upmarket now. In my 20s in London I went to some really dingy places 🤣

Yants · 04/01/2023 18:52

chocolateflapjacks · 04/01/2023 18:03

Only boring people are bored!

Where did NeedMoreLego say that they found everything and everyone boring?

Perhaps it's just the socially needy people who are only capable of having a good time by being pissed that they find boring?
