To ask what age you stopped enjoying going “out out”

Just that really. I’m 29 and living in the city as a working professional. Up until the last 6 months or so, I guess you could say I’ve very much lived a ‘work hard, play hard’ sort of lifestyle involving a lot of socialising, drinking and late nights out. Over the past few months it’s as though a switch has been flipped and suddenly it’s just no fun anymore. The idea of a cosy night in, or a nice meal out with a couple of drinks and being back at home and in bed by 12pm is far more appealing!

The majority of my friends here in the city around my age are still very much in to the party way of life and are showing no signs of slowing down… so I wondered, when did the switch happen for you?!

About 45, ten years ago. I like a good night in the pub, but like a pp I need a seat for part of the night. I still like festivals and good house parties.

Cornelious · 04/01/2023 20:14

I'm 40 and love going out out. I partied hard when younger but prob only go out once a month/ every 2 months. I love a dance though not keen on proper night clubs anymore unless they're playing 90's music.

LaughingCat · 04/01/2023 20:15

Yeah, about 28-29. That said, I often sloped off at midnight anyway for a few slices of bread, some water with electrolytes and a good night’s sleep from around 21-22…so I merely talked a good game, rather than living it 😂. I’ve always fucking loved my bed. Rock on!

HaggisWurst · 04/01/2023 20:15

I went out between the ages of 17-25. I had 3 amazing, crazy fun years particularly (when I was 18, 21, & 24). Then I was just done at 25, I'd had enough. I was doing a master and had gotten engaged and was ready for the next part of my life. I'm 33 now, married, one toddler DS, one on the way. Loved my going out days but don't miss going out out now and I love my cosy nights in and the stage I'm at now.

ChampagneLassie · 04/01/2023 20:15

37 coinciding with covid I never went back to it and became a real home body. I got into cooking and nice wines and now it's got to be somewhere really fancy to tempt me otherwise just seems pointless

bowchicawowwow · 04/01/2023 20:15

I'm in my 40s and I love a night out for a specific event - like a gig or a certain DJ with likeminded friends. I wouldn't enjoy just trawling bars and seeing who was out and about like I did in my teens and twenties. I also really struggle with hangovers, which I will have after one pint. I also hate wasting precious weekends feeling like crap so it has to be worth it to me.

icanwearwhatiwant · 04/01/2023 20:16

I've never enjoyed it, I'd rather do something where I can hold a conversation with somebody and don't feel ill for the whole of the next day.
I think I was born an old fart...now I'm almost 50 I'm embracing it!

PatientlyWaiting21 · 04/01/2023 20:16

I’m 35 with a young fam, I’m out out every 3/4 months!

Tippletoomany · 04/01/2023 20:18

Never really enjoyed it. Always get a headache as it’s too loud and get horrid hangovers.
I would much prefer a quiet bar, a meal or just staying in!

Brainfogmcfogface · 04/01/2023 20:18

30, became a single mother with no support, at all, haven’t been out out since (almost a decade) or even out, everything I do is with child, so bt the time they are grown I most likely won’t ever again I reckon.

LBOCS2 · 04/01/2023 20:28

Not bored of it yet, I'm in my late 30s. Still go to gigs, out with friends to bars, occasionally to a specialist music night with DH (babysitting dependent, that one).

It's a lot fewer and further between than it was when I was 20, and my powers of recovery are not what they were - but on the up side I can now afford an Uber home rather than a series of grotty (stinky) night buses 😁

tsmainsqueeze · 04/01/2023 20:30

I went clubbing every week from 17 up to and inc being pregnant at 28 and 30, stopped a little while when 1st two babies were tiny, then carried on into my early 30's still having a whale of a time.
I really dislike the idea of going out now other than an early meal ,home by 9 if poss , i always moan about it but usually have a good time when out.
Just love being at home.

NeelyOHara1 · 04/01/2023 20:35

I seem to recall that the getting ready bit was usually the best part, lol.

FindingMeno · 04/01/2023 20:35

Around 26/27.

Breastfeduptotheeyeballs · 04/01/2023 20:38

The second I finished university. Got it all out of my system there.

MrsJBaptiste · 04/01/2023 20:38

I'm 45 (DH is 50) and we both love going out into town drinking, dancing and rolling in at midnight. I know... not too late but we tend to go at 3-4pm.

We only really do this every couple of months but go out locally at least twice a week to our local pubs/bars.

I've never been one for restaurants and eating out - I'd much rather drink the night away and if it can be out out then great!

Suzi888 · 04/01/2023 20:39

43- I just can’t be bothered at all, just feel tired.

middleager · 04/01/2023 20:40

Mid to late 30s.
I'm 50 now and go to a gig about once a month, which is just right, although a couple of years ago it was twice monthly.

MajorCarolDanvers · 04/01/2023 20:43

It's a bit sad to read all these posts from young women saying they don't enjoy a night out.

Needmorelego · 04/01/2023 20:44

@MajorCarolDanvers why is it sad? People like different things in life.

MajorCarolDanvers · 04/01/2023 20:48

Needmorelego · 04/01/2023 20:44

@MajorCarolDanvers why is it sad? People like different things in life.

For example many talk about being too tired to enjoy a night out.

That's a shame.

xprincessxjanetx · 04/01/2023 20:49

I'm 30 and I have never gone "out" out. I've always been introverted and I don't drink so it's not something i've ever done.

TheaBrandt · 04/01/2023 20:50

They may yet have a second wind. Some get lost in the drudge of motherhood but when you have teens and young adults you can get your life back.

BatildaB · 04/01/2023 20:51

In my mid-30s with lockdown I realised how much I prefer going for long walks with one or two friends than getting wasted in a pub. I always drank heavily when I went out-out, which I thought was because I was having fun, but realised post-lockdown that I find pub and club environments really unpleasant with the noise and crowds and was drowning that out. I still like a boogie, and sometimes it's fun to chat to random strangers, but I'm happy to boogie at home lockdown style and meet people through activities or travel rather than in a cold noisy unhealthy smoking pen!

Velda · 04/01/2023 20:53

It was fun when I used to drink, but now I’m at an age (40) where I can’t handle it any more. If I want to maintain my health and weight I have to cut right down on alcohol, and without it a night out just isn’t fun.
