"The Magnificent Seven", "What amazing clothes", "What adorable children" - AIBU to think that the Royal Family is just the Truman show for a lot of people

Except the people actually know they are in it.

Such sycophancy. There is the role of the Head of State that the King fulfills but this is an obsession with them.

Their role just seems to sell newspapers now. To generate clicks in the media. And headlines.

They are just a family. I am sure there are plenty of other families with 'adorable' children, where the mum wears 'amazing clothes' (that people seem to want to to go out and buy)

AIBU to think that some of the headlines and the stories is just pure obsession and is almost putting them on this pedestal?

The Magnificent Seven indeed.

A slow day with the news then?

Mamamia7962 · 26/12/2022 13:23

cakeorwine - If you don't like what the papers are saying about the royal family then don't read it. The press know that the royals sell papers, it seems that what Catherine and her children wear sell out very quickly.

You remind me of the trolls on Twitter abusing Blu Ivy for looking like Jay Z

I mean, she does look like Jay Z, which is rather unfortunate given Beyoncé is her mum.

BUT her parents are billionaires so it literally doesn’t matter what anyone thinks 😆

Did you really just say that about a little girl? “She’s ugly but doesn’t matter because she’s rich”. Gross.

Some of those 'loyal subjects' at Sandringham who were interviewed had apparently been there all night in their chairs in the cold, with their bits of tat to give the royal children. Part of me thinks the RF should now stop it. It's cruel and demeaning.

It really is and I don’t understand the tabloids fuel this mindset. It is just embarrassing in today’s world.

There are usually tiny numbers made of whatever they wear so of course they sell out quickly.

The only problem I have with it is how utterly stupid it makes the UK look. I don’t understand why this stupid tabloid makes the whole country look to the rest of the world like imbeciles stuck in 1800s fairytales.

The country is sliding backwards and here we are acting subservient to a dysfunctional family who have done nothing that puts them above any other human. They are no more intelligent, beautiful, stronger, morally superior, taller, etc, etc than the rest of the general population. Apparently God ordained them. It makes no sense and yet here we are, a nation worshipping mediocre people and lying to ourselves that they are better than us.

What’s wrong with our mentality? Why are we so servile? Look at the state of our country and we are grateful that someone who we pay enormous taxes to support, gives us a speech to remind us how much better he and his family are than us.

⤴️WORD!

No sorry I can’t see why:

  • a thread loving the royal family
  • a thread hating the royal family
  • a thread discussing the media treatment of the royal family

ALL don’t belong in a section titled ROYAL FAMILY

I am really amused by your insistence that you somehow have a superior take on the royal family that is oh so different to the others.

There is a certain section on the board who only want us all to say things like aren't they wonderful, didn't she look beautiful..

Given the extraordinary number of threads you start on there everyday, that’s not true is it? But it doesn’t matter, it exists for threads about the Royal Family, like the Coronavirus boards exist for that. People are sick of them cluttering up the other sections.

Mamamia7962 · 26/12/2022 13:30

AutumnCrow - Nobody forced them to be there it was their choice. If someone wants to wait outside overnight in the cold to see the royals and it makes them happy then who are you to judge. People queue overnight for all different kinds of things. It's not demeaning if they want to do it.

Blossomtoes · 26/12/2022 13:33

The RF section is full of sycophants.

And there we have it. Someone posting to this thread will always oblige you with an anti monarchist rant on the RF board.

antelopevalley · 26/12/2022 13:42

I know that is not what you want @Blossomtoes But it is extraordinary to see the same people over months saying every single thing the Royal Family does is wonderful and if it really isn't, constantly making excuses and minimising e.g. Andrew. I find it a very strange mindset. They are just human beings you know. Some seem fine and some seem bloody awful.

GreenLunchBox · 26/12/2022 13:43

I think this Tory cost of greed crisis has brought the utter absurdity of the monarchy to the fore. I think the scales will fall from more and more people's eyes over the next few months as we shiver and starve in our houses while we pay £100M to put a bejewelled hat on a pampered man's head.

Seems the Mail will ramp up their campaign to keep us tugging our forelocks gratefully. Thanks for this thread, OP. I'm glad more and more people are talking about media manipulation

lollipoprainbow · 26/12/2022 13:44

@Miss03852 where have I said they are ugly ?? I said I didn't find them cute there's a difference.

That's a really shitty thing to say about children. You're a real nasty piece of work

This. Very nasty. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Why do they want to? That is the question. Just why would one human being do that to themselves in the strange belief that these people are born to rule them and are better than them.

Why does such a subservient and low self-esteem exist in this country and why is it classed as our cultural identity?

DrunkOnHim · 26/12/2022 13:53

How awful that there are some people on here commenting negatively on children’s looks. That’s really fucking disgusting. Although it’s not any better to comment on adults looks negatively either and there’s been some horrible comments about Meghan and Kate on here lately.

The press are a disgrace. They build people up, they knock them down. They get to sway the opinions of some of the public who can’t/won’t think for themselves. It’s all a game to the FB press, it how they make money, but there are real people with feelings involved.

The sensible celebs try to stay out of the spotlight once they wise up to how it works, they don’t get involved with the press. The Royals probably don’t get a choice if they want to survive. But I think they should be got rid of, there’s no role for them in society now. Christianity in the UK is disappearing, hence Charles aligning himself desperately with all faiths. The idea of a chosen family living in luxury for no real reason doesn’t really work in modern life.

I feel sorry for the kids being forced into the public eye. It was clearly very damaging for Harry. I think they need to modernise quick, and part of that would be dressing and acting more normally (and not spending thousands upon thousands on outfits every year) and keeping the kids out of it.

Look at Sweden’s Royal family, they go Christmas shopping like normal people and the kids look like kids in normal H&M clothes.

The King was spotted at a local petrol station putting petrol in his car and then going in to pay for it and he bought a hot dog for the Queen on his way out. No drama whatsoever, there is rarely nothing more exciting to write about than that. Their children seem like very happy & lovely children. They do a great job and are generally much liked.

lollipoprainbow · 26/12/2022 11:35

The daily Mail have gone all out in their sycophancy. Around seven articles hailing Kate, the perfect children etc utterly nauseating.

The Fail literally have a whole team of journalists ( if you can call them that), hell bent on writing gushy stories about Kate and hate stories about Meghan. It is utterly pathetic.

lollipoprainbow · 26/12/2022 14:01

@Groundspace this sounds wonderful. Why they can't dress the children in high street clothes I don't know.

It works with some people. But I think it is working less and less.

Groundspace · 26/12/2022 14:08

@lollipoprainbow it does make a difference, and most kids just want to look like their friends and be like everyone else anyway. It needs to be modernised.

Cruel and demeaning? This is what you call hyperbole and hysterics.

PeaceJoySleep · 26/12/2022 14:27

The royal family is so British and many British people want that and even if they don't they can't look away. I'm Irish and living in Ireland so not exactly invested in to the longevity of the monarchy, but it exists now and given that it does, it is so far from surprising that the humans who are in these public roles attract attention. They are better looking than average. They dress well. There is privacy behind their scenes that they don't want to leak out. They're admired for not putting a foot wrong or they generate drama by putting their feet wrong. It's all so ''watchable'' that to be surprised that people are watching is really baffling.

If you don't want a monarchy, fine, there'll be a referendum at some point but I think it would be to mean that no child born after such and such a date is in line. It's going to go on for a while yet I'd say.

SighsTheNewWord · 26/12/2022 14:34

Oh nooo, not the "hyperbole" crowd again. 😆
