"The Magnificent Seven", "What amazing clothes", "What adorable children" - AIBU to think that the Royal Family is just the Truman show for a lot of people

Except the people actually know they are in it.

Such sycophancy. There is the role of the Head of State that the King fulfills but this is an obsession with them.

Their role just seems to sell newspapers now. To generate clicks in the media. And headlines.

They are just a family. I am sure there are plenty of other families with 'adorable' children, where the mum wears 'amazing clothes' (that people seem to want to to go out and buy)

AIBU to think that some of the headlines and the stories is just pure obsession and is almost putting them on this pedestal?

The Magnificent Seven indeed.

No different to other celebrities; people love to worship others. If it sells, it will continue.

It will all stop when people get some self-esteem and realise camping out and gawking at their fellow human beings is actually a lowly and bizarre thing to do. But then again, some are quite okay with that.

They are a ceremonial constitutional monarchy. The clue is in the name.

The Magnificent Seven.....

Really?

And yet here you are starting a thread about them, so you must understand why so many people are interested in them?

🙄

minipie · 26/12/2022 11:17

It’s always been like this, right back to Regency times if not earlier. Their main function is to provide “a show” and gossip for people who like to live vicariously. They’re doing an excellent job of providing juicy gossip I must say 🤷‍♀️

CJat10 · 26/12/2022 11:18

I share your thoughts. The general public who are struggling in a cost of living crisis seem to idolise a family photgraphed looking and behaving like a family from Downton abbey. I watch and wonder what mentality makes people celebrate being underdogs. We are supposed to be grateful he acknowledged public 'servants' in his 15 minute speech. It's utterly ridiculous

This is a thread about the obsession.

Going on about her clothes.
Their adorable children

They are just a family. Yet for some people, they are an obsession.

The Truman Show..

It is rather embarrassing. 'Who needs Harry and Meghan when we've got the Magnificent Seven'. There is nothing magnificent about them, they're just a very rich and very dysfunctional family that we're forced to know about.

The media is especially sycophantic this year to try and spite H&M. It's infantile

That's a really shitty thing to say about children. You're a real nasty piece of work

They look like kids to me. I am not sure if saying a kid is 'not cute' is shitty though.

To say the children aren't even cute is really shitty. No one needs to bring a child's looks into discussion. If you do, you're a shitty person

The obsession seems to be with with trying to call it an obsession and making it out like it’s something weird.

It’s Jo an ancient institution. It’s no more an obsession that people going gaga over ‘period character’ houses, listing old buildings and being interested in anything from a time gone by. These people just happen to be a living symbol of something historic. It’s really not that jaw dropping.

We are told they are adorable and cute by the media. They are the ones who bring the children's looks into a discussion.

The media discuss the Royal children constantly.

Why do an AIBU without enabling the voting? Pretty pointless posting without it.

lollipoprainbow · 26/12/2022 11:35

The daily Mail have gone all out in their sycophancy. Around seven articles hailing Kate, the perfect children etc utterly nauseating.

cakeorwine · 26/12/2022 11:35

They are just people.
Yet the media go on about "their wonderful clothes style, their amazing children, their brilliant photography"

And some people lap it up.

There we have it. This thread is basically a bitter attempt by Harry Meghan fanclub to get it off theirs chests. It’s actually quite sad that you must be so into some hollywoood celebs.

Are you not an adult who can't choose not to comment on childrens looks regardless of whether the media says it?

I actually don't understand the obsession people have with celebrites either.

No problem with the royal family tbh, but the way the media force these stupid nicknames on me drives me crackers... 'fab four' and now they're trying to coin 'the magnificent seven' just no
