"The Magnificent Seven", "What amazing clothes", "What adorable children" - AIBU to think that the Royal Family is just the Truman show for a lot of people

Except the people actually know they are in it.

Such sycophancy. There is the role of the Head of State that the King fulfills but this is an obsession with them.

Their role just seems to sell newspapers now. To generate clicks in the media. And headlines.

They are just a family. I am sure there are plenty of other families with 'adorable' children, where the mum wears 'amazing clothes' (that people seem to want to to go out and buy)

AIBU to think that some of the headlines and the stories is just pure obsession and is almost putting them on this pedestal?

The Magnificent Seven indeed.

@Groundspace this sounds wonderful. Why they can't dress the children in high street clothes I don't know.

Because they don’t want to. Lots of people don’t dress their kids n high

Because they don’t want to. Lots of people don’t dress themselves or their children in high street clothes.

antelopevalley · 26/12/2022 15:02

Other kids do not walk around dressed like them.

You mean you don’t see other kids dressed like that. There are plenty where I live.

antelopevalley · 26/12/2022 15:09

Where do you live that children of their age are still walking around in clothes that under fives are usually dressed in?

A suit and a smart coat are usually only worn by under fives in your world? Louis actually is under five.

antelopevalley · 26/12/2022 15:17

Suits are worn by any age, although not just going about daily life. The type of smart coat Charlotte wears is the kind under five girls wear.

MichelleScarn · 26/12/2022 15:19

Agreee with @Blossomtoes, not where I live, but where I have family, also have you ever seen the trend for 'Spanish children's clothes' l believe it's called?

antelopevalley · 26/12/2022 15:24

Yes I have. But generally by the time kids go to school they refuse to wear a pastiche of 1950s kids clothing. It is why it is largely confined to very young children.

Charlotte is 7. How long are they going to dress her as if she was born in the 1950s? And suits on young kids always looks a bit odd.

Anyway it does not really matter.

antelopevalley · 26/12/2022 15:28

There are reasons all those coats are reduced. They are nice coats but the vast majority of kids would refuse to wear them.

greenhousegal · 26/12/2022 15:31

AutumnCrow · 26/12/2022 13:22

Some of those 'loyal subjects' at Sandringham who were interviewed had apparently been there all night in their chairs in the cold, with their bits of tat to give the royal children. Part of me thinks the RF should now stop it. It's cruel and demeaning.

Fully agree, it's like a circus of servility.

Blossomtoes · 26/12/2022 15:32

Because it’s the sale and nearly all the coats are reduced. Mine wore what I bought them. They didn’t get the chance to refuse.

antelopevalley · 26/12/2022 15:33

I don't treat my kids like that. They are allowed to have opinions.

cakeorwine · 26/12/2022 15:35

I do wonder what the Royal Family think to see themselves described as 'adorable, the Magnificent Seven' and to have themselves fawned over by people.

Maximininalist - Because some people like the royals, because seeing them will make them feel happy. The same reason that people queue overnight to catch a glimpse of a popstar or queue overnight to buy the latest phone or games console. The end result is the same, it makes the person feel happy. Now that might not be your idea of happiness but as it makes no difference whatsoever to your life it's really none of your business.

It's also good PR for the Royals, generates pictures, stories and helps the RF cement their place in society as Head of State.

It wouldn't be the same if it was just the RF going to church.

So yes - it does affect us as it helps maintain their position in society

It does make a difference to my life because they are costing me money and this carrying on is imposed on me. People buying phones are not forced on me as part of what it means to be a British subject. I am forced to find the Roysl Family because it makes some people happy.

Mamamia7962 · 26/12/2022 15:46

cakeorwine - If people weren't interested in them they wouldn't be in the newspapers. Nobody forces anyone to go and see them. You've started quite a few threads on them so they obviously interest you.

Blossomtoes · 26/12/2022 15:47

We’re all forced to fund things we don’t care for. It’s inherent in being a taxpayer.

antelopevalley · 26/12/2022 15:48

And we can campaign to change how our taxes are used.

Of course we can. It won’t get us far though. Dido Harding and Michelle Mone had far more public money in 2020 than the RF, no signs of them being made to return it.

That's so not why I have started threads on them.

The sooner we get rid of the Monarchy, the better.
The sycophancy of the media just helps keep them in place.

I am sure that the sycophants will find something else to obsess over and to fill their newspapers.

Just like when the Truman show ended.
