"The Magnificent Seven", "What amazing clothes", "What adorable children" - AIBU to think that the Royal Family is just the Truman show for a lot of people

Except the people actually know they are in it.

Such sycophancy. There is the role of the Head of State that the King fulfills but this is an obsession with them.

Their role just seems to sell newspapers now. To generate clicks in the media. And headlines.

They are just a family. I am sure there are plenty of other families with 'adorable' children, where the mum wears 'amazing clothes' (that people seem to want to to go out and buy)

AIBU to think that some of the headlines and the stories is just pure obsession and is almost putting them on this pedestal?

The Magnificent Seven indeed.

If you can’t see that you’re part of the problem, that you’re helping to perpetuate this type of coverage by clicking on the website, then there is literally zero point in debating with you, so crack on with this thread without me.

No. The problem is we pay a ridiculous amount our our taxes to this family, whilst the NHS, schools and welfare system is crumbling apart is the problem.
Stop doing that and the problem of the children being paraded about will minimise. Along with other problems.

The Magnificent Seven were a bunch of hired murderers. I can only assume some low-paid intern at the daily mail was unaware of that.

I thought they were hired protection against Mexican bandits (who were murderers).

It's always interesting to read other websites to get a different perspective on things.

And the DM website is obsessed with the Royals.

Yeah yeah. I bet you’re on the Daily Fail 20x a day, it’s probably the only news you read.

Why do you think that?

Where is the Magnificent Seven from? I’ve not heard that.

It looks like it's one shit opinion piece written by Sarah Vine (very well connected 'journalist', she recently divorced Michael Gove, and would appear to dislike the actions of Harry & Meg), which has been heavily read and promoted on the Mail Online website since yesterday.

The rest of the stuff that annoys the OP is also mostly from the Mail Online / Daily Mail too from what I can see, so there's an easy way to avoid seeing it ...

We are told they are adorable and cute by the media. They are the ones who bring the children's looks into a discussion.

The media discuss the Royal children constantly.

Absolutely disgusting. The kids didn’t ask to be in the spotlight, just like any other celeb kid don’t. You remind me of the trolls on Twitter abusing Blu Ivy for looking like Jay Z.

It doesn’t matter if your favourite newspaper the Daily Fail say they are cute, you still shouldn’t be saying nasty things about how children look who did not ask to be famous. I’m sure you were an ugly kid and luckily you weren’t pushed into the spotlight for anonymous trolls online to comment on your looks at 6 years old like you’re doing to Charlotte.

It is why I can’t understand why M&H, who I am completely neutral on, went all guns out on the press. It is the living definition of ‘don’t wrestle with a pig, you’ll both get muddy and the pig will enjoy it’ (pig is the press in this scenario!)

The Netflix thing just provided fodder for the DM and mainstream media to post millions of reportage, commentary, analysis, criticism. They cannot survive without a constant stream of material, H&M give that to them in spades.

Isn’t it obvious? They need the money. Harry is a prince who is accustomed to a certain standard of living. Meghan has become accustomed to a high standard of living too. They have a large security bill and limited options for earning the kind of money they need. Now is the time for them to cash in on their story since this is likely to be when the interest in them is at its greatest.

thatone · 26/12/2022 12:24

I also think it's a bit strange to see all the adoration. They are a perfectly normal lovely family like many others.

Ifailed · 26/12/2022 12:25

I prefer the stuff Sarah Vain writes in Private Eye.

lollipoprainbow · 26/12/2022 12:26

@Miss03852 it's the media ramming down our throats how cute the children are. I'll decide if I think they are cute or not thank you.

There we have it. This thread is basically a bitter attempt by Harry Meghan fanclub to get it off theirs chests. It’s actually quite sad that you must be so into some hollywoood celebs.

Exactly! Am just pondering ALL of the previous decades when the media has been just as 'obsessed' way prior to the H&M fallout.. who was that to spite?

So write to the papers asking them to stop. Campaign it if you like.
They are thr ones bringing it up.

Sallytobleroney · 26/12/2022 12:26

I feel sorry for the kids being forced into the public eye. It was clearly very damaging for Harry. I think they need to modernise quick, and part of that would be dressing and acting more normally (and not spending thousands upon thousands on outfits every year) and keeping the kids out of it.

How odd. How about you just view them as children. Children’s cuteness doesn’t need to be judged by you or the media.

That section is mainly for people who are themselves obsessed with the Royal Family - so the response might be a bit different.

So you just want people to agree with you - understood.

The media have always been obsessed with the RF. Look at Diana.

The internet just makes it so much easier. A newspaper website just makes it easier to publish more stories.

More to post on a section that is not obsessed by the RF.

People on here may or may not agree. But on the RF section, there may be just a bit more bias towards them.

I wonder if they have reflected on what Harry has said?

Oh yeah I’m sure the biggest online news paper in the world will do what I want them to do. I’m sorry I’m annoying people who want to criticise children’s looks online.

Blossomtoes · 26/12/2022 12:33

Yes, OK @cakeorwine. Whatever you say. I still think you just want a thread full of republican frothing. And it should still be on the RF board, specifically designed for these threads.

Yes I agree they are likely playing a game too because they NEED to stay high profile in order to command large contracts. Also I think they are pitching their stall to the US market, which makes sense as Meghan likely understands that market/audience more and in fact they seem to be quite successful on that front. A lot of sympathy and admiration for them on eg Reddit.

Yeah that’s the media, not them! They are CHILDREN ffs. They have no control over what is written about them! Why don’t you post a photo of yourself and see how you like people commenting on how bad you look.

I don't hate the Royal Family. They are just a family.

I hate the idea of Monarchy. I hate the sycophancy in our media towards them.

There is a very big difference.
