"The Magnificent Seven", "What amazing clothes", "What adorable children" - AIBU to think that the Royal Family is just the Truman show for a lot of people

Except the people actually know they are in it.

Such sycophancy. There is the role of the Head of State that the King fulfills but this is an obsession with them.

Their role just seems to sell newspapers now. To generate clicks in the media. And headlines.

They are just a family. I am sure there are plenty of other families with 'adorable' children, where the mum wears 'amazing clothes' (that people seem to want to to go out and buy)

AIBU to think that some of the headlines and the stories is just pure obsession and is almost putting them on this pedestal?

The Magnificent Seven indeed.

I agree 100%. I find some people's obsession with the children quite scary. There's clearly unhinged folk out there setting up social media accounts using the children's names, photoshopping them into pictures with Diana etc. Granted, that's the extreme end of the scale. But they're children and they should be allowed to grow up in privacy.

lollipoprainbow · 26/12/2022 11:39

The children being made to shake hands with the cheering peasants, poor George always looks so nervous, the kids were handed some hideous gonk things which I assume went straight in the bin. Giving gifts to privileged kids really??

We are told they are adorable and cute by the media. They are the ones who bring the children's looks into a discussion.

Are you not an adult who can't choose not to comment on childrens looks regardless of whether the media says it?

Have I commented on the children's looks?

No

We are told by the media that they are adorable and cute.

I don't think it's shitty if someone says they aren't cute. Not every child is cute.

A lot of people were interested, in fact obsessed, with Truman. His everyday actions, his life, channels and the media devoted to him. You could buy mementoes etc.

Only difference is - he didn't know. They do.

Where is the Magnificent Seven from? I’ve not heard that.

So they are just reality TV stars. The whole point of the Truman Show is that he doesn’t know. His reality is orchestrated. It’s a modern interpretation of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. Anyway there is a whole section for Royal Family bollocks like this.

That section is mainly for people who are themselves obsessed with the Royal Family - so the response might be a bit different.

That's a really shitty thing to say about children. You're a real nasty piece of work

Not all children are cute. Are we not allowed to roll our eyes when an 'article' is blabbering on a rather unattractive child is cute?
If these children were born from a normal family, without privilege and entitlement they would be enormously over looked. They wouldn't have any special attention paid to them. Yet because they are born from an unreasonably privileged family we are supposed to think they're the bees knees? Nah.

Yes this is upsetting to me as well.

As someone who also dislikes antics from MM, I also hate the press trying to make the RF ‘happen’ because KC just doesn’t measure up to the late queen

I mean, come on! The Magnificent Seven? Wtf?!

I wouldn’t get in a flap about it, all you are doing is watching a massive strategic flex from the papers (especially daily Mail) where they probably very successfully piss off M&H, who very publicly criticise them, by pouring insane levels of praise on the rest of the royal family. The rest of the royal family will accept it probably with sighs of relief that they are not the targets - for now.

It is why I can’t understand why M&H, who I am completely neutral on, went all guns out on the press. It is the living definition of ‘don’t wrestle with a pig, you’ll both get muddy and the pig will enjoy it’ (pig is the press in this scenario!)

The Netflix thing just provided fodder for the DM and mainstream media to post millions of reportage, commentary, analysis, criticism. They cannot survive without a constant stream of material, H&M give that to them in spades.

The DM is gleefully now making William and Kate look like the perfect, vanilla family probably to wind up M&H and also they know the public like a ‘goody’ and ‘baddy’ narrative.

Kate has made a lifelong bet that if she says or does nothing offensive ever she can’t be criticised for anything more than her lifelong passion for coat dresses. She is essentially ‘grey rocking’ the media. She is very smart, she has survived the wilderness years when being young, hot and not royal born puts a target on women’s heads, and in her vague, conservative, non threatening ‘traditional’ values (gardening, childcare, sport, carols) is drifting along to national treasure status by 50. She’s played a blinder.

Anyone else think it’s ironic that the OP is bitching about the coverage of the royal family but is clearly a reader of the Daily Mail website which is known for royal sycophancy? Choose different websites and you’ll find it easy to avoid that sort of coverage 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's always interesting to read other websites to get a different perspective on things.

And the DM website is obsessed with the Royals.

And how hideous to read grown adults debating whether three children they’ve never met (and only ‘know’ about through the lens of biased media coverage) are cute or not. Anyone who thinks it’s acceptable to do this is vile and needs to take a long look at themselves before judging the merits of others.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 26/12/2022 11:58

I'm all for the concept of constitutional monarchy-I think it's great.

It's just such a shame that humans have to be the face of it. There is nothing mystical or God-ordained about these people.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - the sooner the monarch is replaced by a plank of wood, the sooner these completely unremarkable people can shuffle off into private obscurity and we will all be the better for it.

Ifailed · 26/12/2022 11:59

The Magnificent Seven were a bunch of hired murderers. I can only assume some low-paid intern at the daily mail was unaware of that.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 26/12/2022 11:59

It's the Charlotte us the image of the Queen that bugs me. That would be the Queen who had blonde curls as a child then.

What's vile is the fact that this country has decided these children's fates from birth.

They are paraded like a show for the masses, put on a pedestal for us to admire, their moves watched and obsessed over, being forced to put on a show so the media can get headlines.

That is vile.

And if they try to escape it, well we have all seen what happens then. Especially if they escape and dare criticise it.

It's an obsession.

The Magnificent Seven.....

Really?

It is an obsession, I agree.
An obsession belonging to the people who start incessant threads about the RF.
Had you not started this one, I'd not have known this is how the press are referring to them.

Ponoka7 · 26/12/2022 12:04

sst1234 · 26/12/2022 11:35

There we have it. This thread is basically a bitter attempt by Harry Meghan fanclub to get it off theirs chests. It’s actually quite sad that you must be so into some hollywoood celebs.

There been quite a few discussions this morning across television on how we are being brainwashed to love 'the magnificent seven' and hate H&M. It's an interesting discussion because it doesn't stop with the royals, they do that to ordinary people and situations (especially benefit claimants/asylum seekers etc). We need to start holding our press to higher standards and them being more accountable. They fuel hate campaigns against people, especially women.

If you can’t see that you’re part of the problem, that you’re helping to perpetuate this type of coverage by clicking on the website, then there is literally zero point in debating with you, so crack on with this thread without me.

Soothsayer1 · 26/12/2022 12:08

I find it ghastly and ridiculous, him pretending to care about those in poverty whilst in his luxurious vast mansions, and didn't she do it it with a gold piano in view last time?I pity the cap doffers who prostrate themselves before these pompous entitled weirdos, I can only think that they are brainwashed?
