Such sycophancy. There is the role of the Head of State that the King fulfills but this is an obsession with them.

Their role just seems to sell newspapers now. To generate clicks in the media. And headlines.

They are just a family. I am sure there are plenty of other families with 'adorable' children, where the mum wears 'amazing clothes' (that people seem to want to to go out and buy)

The right wing press here is trying its best to influence the US. The problem is the US believes in social mobility, the American Dream

Oh please. Who gives a shit what the US thinks? As for the American dream and social mobility - in a country where race segregation was legal in my life time, where black men are killed on the streets, where to have any chance of running for political office you have to be a multi millionaire - to think the US believes in social mobility is risible.

Although I think it horrible to say they look like horses, to pretend they’re all good looking is silly and a bit weird! The Queen was nice enough in her younger years but Prince Philip was never a good looking man. Anne was never particularly attractive. Edward looked ok with hair as did William but he didn’t have attractive facial features. Most of them don’t. They all seem to not age well at all. BUT, they are not models, why should they be good looking? Its unkind to pick on their looks and say they look like horses but it’s also madness to pretend they’re good looking people. Obviously Kate and Meghan are very attractive women. Not that it should matter.

Princess Anne was just as good looking as both Kate and Meghan in her youth.

And the UK is better in terms of racism? Really? Let’s not expose the UK’s underwear where racism is concerned.

And if the US is irrelevant then why do you need the Royal Family? I thought a big plus for us having a Royal Family us because of soft diplomacy and their popularity abroad?

If we should not care about the major economies and what they think about this marlarkey then remind me what the value of the Royal Family is? We should not care about their influence abroad because other countries are irrelevant, hmmmm. So soft diplomacy and tourism not important. I’m I really only paying taxes so a few people can freeze themselves in the cold for a chance to see their superiors and gain a false sense of well-being thereafter?

She really wasn’t. But I’m not going to pick women’s looks apart. She looks fine, she carries out her role well and although I don’t think we should have a Royal family, whilst we do, they only need to carry out their duties well, they are not catwalk models and shouldn’t be judged by their looks.

She wasn’t. She’s not and never was conventionally good looking, her features are very obviously not as pleasant as Meghan or Kate’s. BUT, it doesn’t matter. She is a woman who does her role well and that is all that matters.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. Everybody's idea of who is attractive and who isn't is different. I happen to think that Princess Ann looks stunning in that photo, others will disagree with me, but we are all entitled to our own opinions. I can't believe this thread has descended in to how good looking or not the royal family are.

I do find it amusing how they hand out these grand titles to their children. Earl of this, Duke of that and all the medals they wear that comes with that.

I think Anne looks attractive in that photo. With Kate, there is a lot of airbrushing. Minus airbrushing she looks a lot older than her age and the Botox is beginning to change a face beyond recognition.

The Queen was attractive in her youth.

Generally, there is nothing going for them that makes the superior to any other family or human being on earth. If anything, they are embarrassing - no great personal accomplishment, supported financially by hardworking members of society, many of who are struggling to pay their bills, giving themselves titles, requiring people to play fairy tale and curtesy or other nonsense Royal protocol, corrupt, petty, adulterous, misogynistic, racist, etc.

But it is our country’s representation of what we should all aspire to be. Our superiors. Look world, this is the best of Britain. Look at our fancy dress up costumes laden with comical medals awarded to oneself.

Yep and whilst I don't want to get into.a Debate about Prince Harry or the the recent scandals surrounding Prince Andrew I did find it ironic they were the only two not in military uniform at the th e Queens funeral yet they were slso.the only two who have been in active combat .

I also thing the whole royal family thing is weird. It’s as though the whole country is being persuaded into what my Dd calls a “parasocial relationship” with them - where you feel as though you have a relationship/ friendship with someone you do actually know.

By all means have a monarch if that’s what people want (I’d rather not personally) but a whole family being put on a pedestal is ridiculous.

But neither of them are conventionally good looking because of some of their obvious features. Of course people find others attractive who are not conventionally good looking though.

Very there and it's subjective ,personally I think Prince Harry has grown into looks and is now far more handsome than his brother ,who was considered the good looking one when they were younger IMO of course .

cakeorwine - Many of the medals though are for services to the monarchy which originate from previous kings and queens going back centuries. So that is just a family tradition for the royals which is meaningless to the rest of us so I can't really get worked up over that. I find history and where traditions come from fascinating and quite like a bit of pomp and ceremony. As for the media, they fawn over a lot of celebrities as well.
