Son's main present major fail help!

Ds 13 got a new graphics card. His dad and me have no clue about stuff like that so asked the computer savvy expert in CEX where we bought it from. It was about £130. Dh asked specifically if it was right for our PC etc and how easy it was to fit. He was told really easy.
Fast forward to today old graphics card out, new 1 in but it won't work. Haven't a bloody clue. It won't connect to the monitor it says no signal. Now old 1 won't go back in so no PC at all. Poor DS is putting a brave face on but he was so excited for this. Evri lost 1 of his other presents so he's not got that much to be happy with arrghh!!

I am so glad you've been able to get it working. Mumsnet is a harsh place at times but it is also a wonderful place when you least expect it.

You may need to get into the machines' bios and enable the new graphics card in there, but do this first after installing the GC ( graphics card)not Gemma Collins))!

Then I suggest you go to the GC manufacturers'website where the most up to date drivers for will be and of course down and install the drivers.

A philips screw driver is all you need to open the case and they are easy to install, hope this helos and your son will bw happy with his new geaphics card.

I suspect it'll be a power issue.

Old card is 55w
New card is 120w

Motherboard can only provide 75w through the slot the card sits in, so it needs either a 6 or 8 pin supplementary power cable which usually plugs into the top edge of the graphics card.

Your PC may, or may not have a connector as standard. If it has any spare molex power plugs, you can get an adapter on amazon.

If not, you may be looking at a new PSU, which is a bit of a ballache.
