Son's main present major fail help!

Ds 13 got a new graphics card. His dad and me have no clue about stuff like that so asked the computer savvy expert in CEX where we bought it from. It was about £130. Dh asked specifically if it was right for our PC etc and how easy it was to fit. He was told really easy.
Fast forward to today old graphics card out, new 1 in but it won't work. Haven't a bloody clue. It won't connect to the monitor it says no signal. Now old 1 won't go back in so no PC at all. Poor DS is putting a brave face on but he was so excited for this. Evri lost 1 of his other presents so he's not got that much to be happy with arrghh!!

I just grabbed an old system board to show but the slot socket will be the same.

Have you plugged the right power cable into here

It will look similar to this may be black, coming from the power supply.

Just spoken with the lovely dh of the poster on here! It does appear it needs a power cable where the above pic shows but there isn't 1!

The only spare 1 seems to be 6 pin but the card has 8 pin?

There's a 6 & 2 next to each other so if we untie the cable ties and plug it in will that work?

Yes that's the one, it will only go on one way.

How many of us reading this have no idea what's going on, but are fully invested in the outcome?

That's called a 12v rail. It's the power cable the graphics card needs to run.

So put the 6 pin in and the 2 pin to make them fit the 8 holes?!

So they are all like yours if you look at this old one I have on a spare power supply.

Yep! This is the most exciting thing to happen so far today.

Cable ties are being cut through so it can be plugged in. Here's hoping!! Thanks so much for everyone's help we really appreciate it
