To ask your thoughts on Andrew Tate?

I went out for dinner recently and all of my nephews aged between 13-26 had a lots of respect for him.

While I agree with a lot of what Andrew Tate says he then has to spoil things with his horrific views on certain topics and I'd go as far as to say some of his points make him dangerous to young men (it concerned me how my nephews really respect him)

What are your thoughts on Andrew Tate?? But also, why do so many respect him in this way when he is so dangerous? Or is it that most people clearly secretly feel this way too?!

He talks almost exactly how the man who trafficked me into prostitution used to. They have the same ideas about women.

GiantWotsit · 27/12/2022 07:15

I agree with pps saying he's hooking into something and we need to work out what that is. I personally hate him but i was watching his interview with piers Morgan the other day and was thinking to myself he's got that thing that teenaged boys will be drawn to. He's speaking on topics which our kids (and even adults) will have felt are unspeakable. That's attractive right off the bat, that he "dares" to go there. It gives the idea that he really must be telling the truth because it's so audacious and "brave" to come out with this shite.

I've also noticed with my 13 yo son, he's got to an age where he's questioning strongly everything I've ever said when we're talking about women's rights etc. As though it's a personal affront to him and I'm attacking all men. Normally I'd say it's an age thing, he's just coming to learn critical thinking and wants to have his own opinion for the sake of having his own opinion. The problem is then that Tate is tapping in at exactly the right age and IN the right age (constant streaming of short clips on every media) to really get in the heads of these boys.

pinkfondu · 27/12/2022 07:19

He doesn't mean much of what he says, it's all for attention but ultimately for money. He's convinced young men he is something to aspire too. There is the odd reasonable normal thing in there but on the whole it's narcissistic, inciting violence towards women and is the opposite of who impressionable young men should be listening too.

bagthoughts · 25/12/2022 09:08

@sorrynotathome they see him as a role model

That is incredibly sad.

Whilst a lot of his outrageous clips are taken out of context. He is still a knob who I would absolutely hate my kids to admire

Jimboscott0115 · 27/12/2022 08:48

As a man, Andrew Tate is a disgusting human being and is a weak man's image of what a strong man looks like.

He appeals to misogynists, incels and 'bros' and is a poster child for them. Seriously these are his most vocal fans and the ones who sign up to his pyramid schemes. The right wing people like this are always easy marks for the likes of Tate. They certainly helped Trump.

He is a Muslim who drinks and smokes he converted just a few years after being openly and publicly islamaphobic. Amazing what sponsorship ££ can drive a man to.

He had openly and publicly explained that he moved to Romania because the sexual assault laws as more lax. He is on recording as having beaten up women, he advocates for male sexual dominance.

Hell, he was banned from Twitter, Facebook, Tiktok and YouTube at one point. That's probably all you need to know given how much stuff they allow.

He's a small man who talks big and a bit like Ben Shapiro ot Jordan Peterson, can appear rational until you scratch beneath the surface and realise they're full of shit and most of their 'facts' are provably false.

If my son looked up to someone like this I'd be having strong words and would likely show him a number of answers on Quora which show documented evidence of his views and statements. The Guardian did a good piece on him too.

IconicKitty · 27/12/2022 08:53

He is awful. One of the many misogynist things he's said is that he would never date anyone over 25, and 19 year olds are the preference as they have 'been through less dick'

Just disgusting and appeals to the dangerous incel, women hating community.

bagthoughts · 27/12/2022 09:35

I also find the rise of his popularity in a world of cancel culture very strange

@SamanthaCaine

"I agree. It's not a problem solely for women to solve but a societal issue that we all need to solve, just as men need to be involved with issues that women have. It's not about us/them but everyone as a whole."

Thank you for understanding the point I was trying to make.

It is so difficult to comment on AT - asking about why is he getting the support from young males and what can be done about it by everyone as a whole without being shouted down as an AT apologist or somehow condoning his views.

bagthoughts · 27/12/2022 09:44

@1dayatatime yes exactly as this thread proved of you read the early on comments and this is why he is able to continue doing what he is doing because people hear his name get emotionally angry and just want the conversation shut down.

Young men are easily radicalised through the internet, it seems. I’m not particularly interested in anything this guy has to say. No “he’s a misogynist, BUT”.

Obviously we can’t blame everything on parenting, but we can only take responsibility for our own kids. I’d like to think I’d raise a kid who also isn’t interested in anything a shitty little misogynist has to say.

That's why his words are so irresponsible Young people are very impressionable and most of them are not going to know what he's doing. I agree he seems very narcissistic, and he knows what he's doing. He wants fame, power, attention and all the other narcissistic things.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 27/12/2022 10:07

I see him as a hate preacher and he's dangerous. I can't understand why some schools get this and warn staff and parents and other schools haven't heard a thing about him and he's allowed to flourish?

bagthoughts · 27/12/2022 10:09

And also want to claim their 'perfect' children would never listen to it (despite the fact schools are sending letters home to parents about him so clearly this is a mass issue)

And so therefore Andrew tate will continue to brainwash the youth of today and fifty years from now we may very well be back to the days of misogyny we were fifty years ago

I guess depending on the background of the kids at the school and how much he is talked about will depend on how each individual school reacts.

He is probably more popular in some compared to others

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 27/12/2022 10:20

I know one school where he is extremely popular with some disaffected young men and yet the safe guarding team have not heard of Andrew Tate?

Devoutspoken · 27/12/2022 10:32

It is possible to bring up young men who are not influenced by these things

sst1234 · 27/12/2022 10:36

He’s a self publicist. A shock jock. He has orchestrated views to get clicks. If he really beloved in his views, he wouldn’t have toned them down after being cancelled.

Another fake charlatan pretending to be controversial just to make a career out of it. It’s not hard to see.

RocketIceLollie · 27/12/2022 10:39

He seems to raise some good points about sexual inequality men have in life which is something that interests me with my son fast reaching into his teenage years.

Devoutspoken · 27/12/2022 10:41

Sexual inequality?

What do you mean by "sexual inequality"? Not having access to sex on tap?

And that's a problem how?

It's not a sexual inequality problem (aka blaming women as gatekeepers on sex), it's a sex entitlement problem (aka men seeing sex as their god given right).

Ugh.

Can you expand on what you mean by 'sexual inequality'?

GenderCriticalTrumpets · 27/12/2022 10:44

He is a hateful, violent misogynist who hates women and who believes men deserve sex. Absolutely disgusting and if my boys liked him I would seriously question how I have brought them up.

Also I feel like if challenged he would go from 0 to Batshit Angry in 0.1 seconds.

Ncgirlseriously · 27/12/2022 10:48

I’m not sure I give a shit what the guy being investigated for sex trafficking thinks about sexual inequality 🙄

ExtraOnions · 27/12/2022 10:53

What’s the “sexual inequality” in men ??? When have men ever been on the “unequal” when is comes to sexual equality ???

monsteramunch · 27/12/2022 10:57

@RocketIceLollie

He seems to raise some good points about sexual inequality men have in life which is something that interests me with my son fast reaching into his teenage years.

Your poor son and the poor girls and women (assuming he is straight) he may encounter in future, if his own mother thinks the man who says the below has 'some good points about sexual inequality'. Quote some of those points for us, would you?

“It’s bang out the machete, boom in her face and grip her by the neck. Shut up bitch,” he says in one video, acting out how he’d attack a woman if she accused him of cheating. In another, he describes throwing a woman’s things out of the window.

Around the time UK police were investigating abuse allegations, Tate is understood to have left the UK for Romania. In one video explaining his reasons for the move he suggested it was because it would be easier to evade rape charges. This is “probably 40% of the reason” he moved there, he says in one video, adding: “I’m not a rapist, but I like the idea of just being able to do what I want. I like being free.”

Tate has said he needs authority over women, discussed hitting women, and claimed that rape victims must 'bear some responsibility" for being raped. He has said he doesn't believe men and women are equal, called female self-defense "bullshit," and said women are "incapable of fighting" and only able to "scream and run." In one video, he asserts that 18-year-olds are more attractive than women in their 20s because "they've been through less dick."
