To ask what exactly Clarkson

Feels Meghan has done to him to justify the vitriol and misogyny of that article he wrote where he’d like to see her naked and assaulted?

I mean WTF? How in earth did a major publication think that it was fine to publish his little sexual fantasy about hurting a woman like that?

I’m no fan of the Royals in any form, and could care less about their infighting, but why are we surprised that there is so much violence against women and girls when this kind of article by an influential man is seen as okay to write?
Where’s his description of a naked, vulnerable Harry being assaulted??

The age-old thing of a man wanting a woman, and if he can't have her, he will destroy her, after getting off on making her vulnerable and afraid and hurt. It's DISGUSTING.

Jeremy Clarkson wants Meghan but can't have her? Or do you mean Rose West or Nicola Sturgeon?

His article is disgraceful. But that is just silly.

Roussette · 19/12/2022 10:31

There is plenty defending of Clarkson on the other thread. It's just satire, and it's funny. Apparently. Hmm

OmiOmy · 19/12/2022 10:31

All the apologists here are sickening. Victim blaming. Minimising.

It does not matter what you think of her. No woman deserves these vile things written or said about her.

And that's the thing isn't it? It always boils down to sexual violence when putting a woman down.

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2022 10:32

I gather it was full of horrific violence and misogyny. Why on earth did people love it?!

It had fantastic characters, plotting and the imaginary universe was based heavily on the reality of medieval Europe and all the depravity that went along with that. The books (at least) are very complex in unpacking people's motivations in a dog eat dog world. The show went a bit too heavy on the sex bits however.

cakeorwine · 19/12/2022 10:32

Snowyy · 19/12/2022 10:29

'The Brand comment - do you know what the context of that was?
It wasn't in a national column'

It was widely reported.

Were you offended by her inciting violence?

Did you hear the show?
Did you hear what she said and the whole piece?
Did you hear the context?
Did you hear the bit where she said she was joking?
Do you know what the show is?

I guess not.

Crikeyalmighty · 19/12/2022 10:34

I'm not quite sure if he was being sarcastic and it was interpreted incorrectly- if so though it was piss poor judgement -

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2022 10:34

What would motivate a man like Clarkson to fantasise such vile stuff about a woman he's never met and who's committed no crime?

IClaudine · 19/12/2022 10:35

Even if Clarkson's tongue was in his cheek and he was satirising the obsessional hatred against MM, the way he chose to do it was vile and unnecessary. Only a misogynistic bigot could have written such invective about a woman who has been so horribly treated.

Rainbunny · 19/12/2022 10:35

I don't think he has a sexual fixation on her and I genuinely think he thought he was being funny. However the fact that it's gone down so very badly is because he inadvertently showed his REAL underlying rage at a woman he can't put in her place. The subtext to his humour was a misogynistic anger that I think many women in the UK recognise, no matter how much it's dressed up as humour.

Clarkson demonstrated the rage of a man who sees a woman do and say things he detests: she complains, she makes uncomfortable accusations of racism, she shows the British press and to an extent the British public in a bad light. She is the dominant partner in her marriage to a husband is is content to let her take the reigns and she clearly has high self-esteem and values herself.

I'm no Markle fan but if she drives a man like Clarkson into impotent rage then I salute her for that.

Nogbreaks · 19/12/2022 10:37

‘What would motivate a man like Clarkson to fantasise such vile stuff about a woman he's never met and who's committed no crime?’

its blindingly obvious to me that it’s racism and misogyny.

I’m mean, it is on brand for him, the misogyny anyway. For a man who appears to have it all, money, influence, a successful career, pals with the Royal family he does seem particularly miserable and determined to bring others down.

Snowyy · 19/12/2022 10:37

'The show is called Heresy. There were comments on milkshakes at Farage. She then said she was joking obviously'

Yes she was 'joking', as Margoyles no doubt was joking about Johnson dying of covid and that will be probably be Clarkson's defence too. I really don't think he lies awake at night thinking about her.

However If you're offended by this, be offended by other celebs 'jokes' too. It shouldn't matter if you like the target of the mocking or not.

Yes, yes, yes. Excellently put.

@00100001

‘“Meghan is... a different story. I hate her on a cellular level. At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her.”

There’s more, Rose West is also mentioned, but apparently JC hates this woman more than Rose West, the child rapist/murderer.

I keep trying to find strong enough words to criticise this hideous ‘man’ and what he wrote, but there are no words adequate enough.

In retrospect, I think we can see now the tabloid media was always headed here eventually. It’s been a long toxic build up over many years. It’s made us all ill and angry, I think. But imagine being Meghan and reading what this hideous man wrote.

I feel sorry for his daughter too, but my first thought is for Meghan. I can’t imagine how awful it must be to read something like this and know

  1. that Clarkson thought these indecent thoughts were acceptable.

  2. that his editor thought it was okay to publish it

  3. that the owner/s of the paper must bear the responsibility in the creation of a newspaper culture that would even think this was publishable, let alone thinkable.

Is this a hate crime?

JanetheObscure · 19/12/2022 10:37

@CaptainMyCaptain She wasn’t, of course, but my point is that Clarkson (who I would bet good money knows Charles and Camilla at least a little socially) didn’t seem to think that what he said might bother someone he had only just had lunch with.

Which might very much not be true. But it doesn’t look great.

Snowyy · 19/12/2022 10:38

Crikeyalmighty · 19/12/2022 10:34

Totally agree. He really should have known better.

Nogbreaks · 19/12/2022 10:38

‘and I genuinely think he thought he was being funny.’

imagine the world in which calling for the sexual humiliation and assault of a young black woman, and mother, is seemed as funny.

So you've not heard it then.
Context is key

And we can see Clarkson for who he is.

MissBattleaxe · 19/12/2022 10:39

This is exactly the opinion that the mainstream media has fed the public. >>

I can't stand Meghan, think she is a self indulgent, narcissitic trouble maker fuelled by jealousy of William & Kate, who did everything to get back in control.

Nogbreaks · 19/12/2022 10:40

The posters on here defending him make me want to hold my daughter closer. The thought that she might one day be on the receiving end of such abuse makes me feel sick.

OP posts:

You'd think the palace would say something if they were bothered however. I can only interpret their silence in one way.

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2022 10:16

That's all Clarkson is doing here, following his usual style of humour. It's not to be taken seriously.

And we wonder why crime and misogynistic attacks against women continue to be an enormous blight on society.

Christ almighty 🤦‍♀️

''That's all Clarkson is doing here...Humour''

Humour?.. Would he find it as humorous if MM had said she'd like to amputate his tiny dick and shove it up his arse?
Oh, hah~ha! only humour!

Funny how bullies always say ''I was only joking''
''It was banter''

anyolddinosaur · 19/12/2022 10:41

I suspect the 8% saying you are being U are doing so because you persist in lying about Camilla and an event she attended as a guest, not the host. If this was just about Clarkson that 8% would be lower and restricted to the misogynists who hang around mumsnet to complain about womens rights.

I would defend Clarkson's right to say what he thinks - I also encourage everyone to report him for doing so. Lets make it clear everyone his age does not agree and that his misogyny is not publicly acceptable.

Information you need to complain:

both nline and in print,

I ticked both discrimination (misogyny) and harassment (ongoing by British tabloid press). You get to explain in the next box.

I also thought it was satire, but it was very graphic and showed extremely poor judgement even if it was. Not surprising I suppose since Clarkson has previously been in trouble for being violent at work and racism towards Mexicans.

Lost123454 · 19/12/2022 10:44

Do we really need yet another thread on this?

For goodness sake they haven't commented on a 6hr Netflix show they're hardly likely to comment on something Clarkson said in the Sun.
