It's not a direct threat from Clarkson, but it's the sort of thing which inspire and emboldens dangerous nut jobs. Why do people think so badly of Meghan and Henry? It's because of the years long tidal wave of shit they've had aimed at them.

Jo Cox was murdered by a Nazi, who hated Guardian reader and left wingers, after years of reading radicalising nonsense. Diane Abbot has probably had more racist insults, rape threats and death threats than the rest of Parliament. This peaks every time there's a denigrating article about her.

The nearest I've got to anything like this was a mad business associate many years ago who was targeting me, writing about me and stalking me (police and law firm involved) and honestly I felt physically sick with it. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't function. My nerves were completely shredded.
