To ask what exactly Clarkson

Feels Meghan has done to him to justify the vitriol and misogyny of that article he wrote where he’d like to see her naked and assaulted?

I mean WTF? How in earth did a major publication think that it was fine to publish his little sexual fantasy about hurting a woman like that?

I’m no fan of the Royals in any form, and could care less about their infighting, but why are we surprised that there is so much violence against women and girls when this kind of article by an influential man is seen as okay to write?
Where’s his description of a naked, vulnerable Harry being assaulted??

Better late than never from The Sun, I suppose. Though what help for heroes have to do with anything I don’t know.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 23/12/2022 23:35

All the posters condemning Clarkson are using the word cunt.

Why not stop using a term that degenerates woman?

Not all posters.

I am though. I've reclaimed it.

TheaBrandt · 24/12/2022 09:11

I hate that word would never use it or type it and I abhor JC and this is sickening.

Morestrangethings · 24/12/2022 09:37

I love the word. It was often said by nasty men when referring to women . Now women are beginning to say it when referring to nasty men. I’ve reclaimed it too.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 24/12/2022 09:46

It's ridiculous though!
There are so many good words why use the one that describe the corridor of life etc?

Not reclaiming it it's like the women who comment on camel toes or stuff like that

I also went 🤔 when Help for Heroes was mentioned. Sounded straw clutchy, actually scratch that, irrelevant.

Morestrangethings · 24/12/2022 10:28

@ZeViteVitchofCwismas It’s no longer about the vulva or vagina imo, the meaning of the word has changed. I only really use it to describe a nasty man. For some, the words still changing, yes. Words change meaning all the time. I wouldn’t refer to my vulva, (I don’t think it’s original reference was to the actual vagina), as a cunt, never have - but other women might have, (although I’ve never heard it) I did hear an Irish woman one call the vulva a cunny, and did wonder if the word ‘cunning’ derived from that. (Probably doesn’t).

I wouldn’t say ‘camel toe’ either. I would say, ‘My trousers are too tight.’

TheKeatingFive · 23/12/2022 13:38

And you call me dense! At least I understand what the definition of threat is.

🙄

i urge anyone who doesn't seem to understand the implications of this kind of material to imagine what they'd feel if it was written about a woman they cared about.

And then take it up a notch, reminding themselves that this woman has been in the receiving end of multiple death and violence threats already

💯. And on a more general level, it affects far more of us than just those women who happen to have been direct targets of this kind of vocal abuse. Misogyny is becoming re-legitimised. Incels who would ordinarily be hanging out in their parents' basements have been able to find each other online and have others validate views that until about a decade ago would be seen as anti-diluvian, as dated as Benny Hill. Meanwhile feminist sub-Reddits have been closed while this filth is allowed to remain.

Couple that with the sustained assault on women's rights, then idiots like Clarkson writing (however hypothetically) about abuse and you have a perfect fertile breeding ground for a hatred of women that's probably never been simmering far beneath the surface. Clarkson, Fox, Morgan et al ramp up these attitudes with their very public misogyny, putting the message out there that this is a-okay. Our 'queen consort' sets herself up as a vocal spokeswoman against VAWG, then cosies up to those types publicly and fails to condemn their hateful rants even against her own daughter-in-law.

I, for one, don't want the Windsors' ilk standing for an issue so serious whilst sending entirely the opposite message through their hypocritical actions. They're unfit, IMO, not only to represent that cause, but also this country.

They've made us look terrible on a global stage, and on numerous occasions. What else do they actually have to do to be deemed unfit for their unelected posturing?

Mrsjayy · 24/12/2022 10:46

I don't understand the apology why are they going on about " their causes"

CrunchyKnee · 24/12/2022 12:53

You’re calling vile men a cunt because for some reason (ahem misogyny) the worst possible thing anyone can be is a vagina. Not sure how that reclaims the word!

FancyFran · 24/12/2022 15:35

The word 'cunny' is from the Latin and was used throughout the Middle ages and up to the Georgian period.
I hadn't really thought about the word as an insult however my husband who doesn't really swear uses 'arse wipe' to describe a disgusting man. Quite apt for JC.

Readabookgroucho · 24/12/2022 17:35

‘I don't understand the apology why are they going on about " their causes"’

not a clue. It’s not got anything to do with anything.

Virginiaplain · 25/12/2022 07:55

Must mean The Sun sees itself as as generous and munificent as H&M and is just reminding everyone 😂😂

Darlingx · 25/12/2022 08:38

I remember coming across the word in English literature and to me its evolved as our genitals are hidden they are not on the outside they are enrobed enveloped cunny cunning when referred to this as being accessible in Chaucer or Shakespeare it’s in acts of what is hidden becomes accessible through cunning . We have to steer our access or those that aspire to access what is our taboo it’s similar to Gash which to me sounds sore and exposed or slit they are all slighting and about something as hidden or shameful unless your presenting it for easy access to all .
I am glad to be a gatekeeper to something less on the outside and actually prefer it as a rose with petals and layers and beauty.
It has evolved to be describing a cunning man but now also a woman or anyone generally the lowest of the low.
It just seems that if your to offend a women there seems to be a rich vocabulary and even to slight a man it stems from slurring a woman. I say this having a brother and a sister seeing how a woman's reputation had to be protected and there were plenty of slurs but really for a man its all considered Sport.
So really to sum up some White privileged bloated out of touch racist, misogynist like JC as the C I don’t want to give him the credo of a fanny because to be cunning like a fox he is not. There is nothing breathtaking or fabulous or dynamic about him sorry he’s not exactly Bryon is he ? I can tell you now he wouldn’t outwit my cunny with his words he is not a wordsmith and he would have no sword to fall on so if you want to label someone a Cunt make them delicious at least :-)
Human Excrement in thought and process he is waste matter. To scrape off if trodden in and not to be lady lunching with.
we are all omnipotent enough that to be in JC sphere is an Oxymoron. They are going to be some serious pageantry to gold leaf that turd

Kate Millett in her book Sexual Politics summarizes the still-potent degradation and shame of “being a Cunt”:

“Somehow every indignity the female suffers ultimately comes to be symbolized in a sexuality that is held to be her responsibility, her shame […] It can be summarized in one four-letter word. And the word is not fuck, it’s cunt. Our self-contempt originates in this: in knowing we are cunt.”

Darlingx · 25/12/2022 08:41

And that ladies is why its called being a Cunt

Stunningscreamer · 25/12/2022 11:48

CrunchyKnee · 24/12/2022 12:53

You’re calling vile men a cunt because for some reason (ahem misogyny) the worst possible thing anyone can be is a vagina. Not sure how that reclaims the word!

Because why should being a vagina be so much worse than being a penis (cock, prick etc).

Having said that I hate the word girl used as an insult, girl's blouse, behaving like a girl etc. No one ever uses behaving like a boy as an insult. There is definitely a sex based difference for insults.

Queer used to be an insult about gay people. Now they've reclaimed it, it's no longer a word that can be weaponised. That's why using the word cunt is being reclaimed by women.

CrunchyKnee · 25/12/2022 13:18

But that’s my point. To reclaim the word means that we should be using it proudly to describe ourselves. Same as someone calling themselves queer. Not using the word cunt to insult men. That is still weaponising it.

Readabookgroucho · 25/12/2022 13:27

I love the word cunt, but would never ever use it as a swear word. We need to reclaim it.

Readabookgroucho · 25/12/2022 13:28

I’m queer. Inwouldnhave said gay or lesbian but as others have pointed out, we reclaimed it so it was no longer used as an insult against us.

ReneBumsWombats · 26/12/2022 08:13

I've never been convinced by this "we reclaimed it" thing. It's still offensive and insulting when used as a slur. Clarkson racially abused one of his assault victims by calling him a "lazy Irish cunt". No amount of "reclaiming" the word cunt will stop that being offensive, and "Irish" is just the right word for someone or something from Ireland. It never needed "reclaiming"...but in context, it's clearly meant as a slur. It's almost worse, because he was effectively saying it's an insult alone just to be called Irish.

Readabookgroucho · 27/12/2022 09:42

@ReneBumsWombats
Not reclaiming it as a SWEAR word, reclaiming it as a word that means a vagina or vulva. So it’s not the worst thing someone can say…
I wouldn’t use ‘queer’ as an insult - but it’s doesn’t really word as an insult any more now that we’ve taken it back.

Untitledsquatboulder · 27/12/2022 10:11

I (personally) feel no need to reclaim the word cunt to describe body parts. I quite like the fact that it is a powerful swear word. I'd also say that although some parts of the LGBT community may feel that "queer" has been reclaimed, others (including many my age) still find it hugely offensive.
