Feels Meghan has done to him to justify the vitriol and misogyny of that article he wrote where he’d like to see her naked and assaulted?

I mean WTF? How in earth did a major publication think that it was fine to publish his little sexual fantasy about hurting a woman like that?

I’m no fan of the Royals in any form, and could care less about their infighting, but why are we surprised that there is so much violence against women and girls when this kind of article by an influential man is seen as okay to write?
Where’s his description of a naked, vulnerable Harry being assaulted??

If anyone wants to report it, you can do so here: www.ipso.co.uk/complain/complaints-form/

What I also haven't seen, at any stage during my lifetime, is hatred like this levelled at one individual by the media. I'd venture to say it's unprecedented.

I think social media alongside mass media has intensified the spotlight on public figures in the last 10 years. In recent years I can think of some really brutal campaigns against Caroline Flack, Britney Spears, Amber Heard etc.

Women in the Royal family have often been subject to extreme media scrutiny. The press intrusion and negativity towards Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana was awful. And any woman that married a Beatle was likely to be hunted and vilified by the press pack and public.

I sometimes wonder if we’re all wired up to scrutinise women more or it’s simply a culturally learned behaviour encouraged along by mass media.

@RaRaRaspoutine
Well, I wouldn't say I was anxious...🙄
Couldn't care less about them, but it's an obnoxious thing to say about anyone.

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2022 13:35

You are the one that defending an abusive person by claiming that she made a mistake so you tell me.

Absolutely not okay. My original point was that all these people suggesting Clarkson was just 'joking' and 'having the bants' and we shouldn't take this seriously - all that was said about the Flack bullying either. Yet we all know the consequences.

As to whether Camilla hung out with these two men is unproven, she was in the same room as to whether she interacted with them we don't know.

So, if she is disgusted by Clarkson's words, why isn't she putting out a statement to say she doesn't condone it? Not hard. As it stands, she's impacting her own reputation.

Why oh why do people keep qualifying their comments with anxious reassurances to us all that they don't like Meghan..

Weird isn't it?

KenAdams · 19/12/2022 13:36

Not all the way through the thread but the wording of the statement in response to topless pics is here - www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/media/2012/sep/14/kate-middleton-topless-pictures-palace-lawyers

The Palace could play a blinder here, coming out in condemnation of the stories about Meghan, but that press pack works both ways and if they did, it would be a bold move and likely lead to the press having carte blanc to publish whatever stories they choose to, so I'll not hold my breath.

Exactly. It's a super opportunity that they can't take because of the hold the press have on them

What a complete twat. Playing the innocent 'Oops what have I done now?'.

DelilahsHaven · 19/12/2022 13:43

He's a disgrace.

BBC have just reported that he is "horrified"...

"Oh dear. I’ve rather put my foot in it. In a column I wrote about Meghan, I made a clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones and this has gone down badly with a great many people. I’m horrified to have caused so much hurt and I shall be more careful in future."

He's not a bit sorry about what he sais, just that fewer people are applauding him for spouting such hatred than he anticipated.

Misogynistic twunt.

Virginiaplain · 19/12/2022 13:44

As long as you keep talking about it you are feeding JCs fame.
Just stop buying the Times and never mention his name.

I haven't said It was a joke or banter, I said that it was unjustifiable. So maybe you should ask some one that said that.
As for Flack there are much better examples of people that haven't done anything to gain them notoriety, yet have been destroyed in the press and not backed by other bullying fuckers cough leigh Francis cough

Should Helen Mirren et al do the same after all they were at the same event?

Reindeersnooker · 19/12/2022 13:52

Even if Meghan was fabricating aspects of her experience, this article functions as a smoking gun. It shows what the British press are willing to do to her and vindicates all that she has said about being a special target for abusive racism by the press. It is an abomination that the Sun believed they could publish it and I hope they find themselves in court.

Bluekerfuffle · 19/12/2022 13:54

cakeorwine · 19/12/2022 11:23

Do you think this article, in a prominent newspaper, by a prominent columnist, depicting in detail his views on what he would like to do to her and comparing her as worse than Rose West, a child killer, is more than an insult?

Again, it has nothing to do with them, they didn’t say it and they don’t make statements defending any of them when anything vile is said about them.

OMG12 · 19/12/2022 13:55

cakeorwine · 19/12/2022 12:35

My opinion is that someone who expresses such views - and especially someone who is a prominent commentator and who writes in a prominent newspaper - needs to take a good look at themselves.

Which is, I suspect, the most widely held opinion

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2022 13:55

I haven't said It was a joke or banter, I said that it was unjustifiable. So maybe you should ask some one that said that.

You were keen to point out Flack's 'fault'. Which I thought was very interesting in the context of this discussion. I don't think that was raised by anyone else.

As for Flack there are much better examples of people that haven't done anything to gain them notoriety, yet have been destroyed in the press

I'm sure that's true. For the purposes of this thread her sex, age and background plus the absolute pasting that led to her death seemed pretty relevant to me.

Should Helen Mirren et al do the same after all they were at the same event?

Given that Meghan is not her DIL then no of course not. Did that really need pointed out?

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2022 13:56

Again, it has nothing to do with them, they didn’t say it and they don’t make statements defending any of them when anything vile is said about them.

Thats not true, they went out to bat over claims that Kate had Botox/hair extensions.

Priorities.

ihavespoken · 19/12/2022 13:57

The subtext to his humour was a misogynistic anger that I think many women in the UK recognise, no matter how much it's dressed up as humour.

Wow @Rainbunny has really hit the nail on the head here!

And you brought up flack as if she did nothing to put herself in the papers.
Or should we just be rewriting history o fit an agenda?

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2022 14:02

And you brought up flack as if she did nothing to put herself in the papers.

I didn't say she did nothing, now did I?

The question is what exactly would merit an attack that vicious?
