Feels Meghan has done to him to justify the vitriol and misogyny of that article he wrote where he’d like to see her naked and assaulted?

I mean WTF? How in earth did a major publication think that it was fine to publish his little sexual fantasy about hurting a woman like that?

I’m no fan of the Royals in any form, and could care less about their infighting, but why are we surprised that there is so much violence against women and girls when this kind of article by an influential man is seen as okay to write?
Where’s his description of a naked, vulnerable Harry being assaulted??

Again, it has nothing to do with them, they didn’t say it and they don’t make statements defending any of them when anything vile is said about them.

Thats not true, they went out to bat over claims that Kate had Botox/hair extensions.

Priorities.

i doubt that was an actual member of the royal family and it’s not anything vile or nasty anyway. Think of all the crap that’s been written about various members of the family. They don’t make statements saying they stand by them. And they shouldn’t have to apologise for something they had nothing to do with.

FrippEnos · 19/12/2022 14:08

You have excused her behaviour as a "complicated relationship and we all make mistakes"

And why wouldn't a celeb coming home drunk and smashing a lamp over your partner's head and then claiming innocence be worthy of press attention?

Especially as other celebs and many people were defending her.

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2022 14:09

It was a spokesperson and I'm not sure what your point is.

Theu can refute what they like. Using their spokespeople.

Why not a simple statement, saying they condemn this treatment. Wouldn't that be the decent thing to do?

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2022 14:11

Not quite the same as saying she'd done nothing wrong, now is it?

And why wouldn't a celeb coming home drunk and smashing a lamp over your partner's head and then claiming innocence be worthy of press attention?

The press did a lot more than simply report that incident. As you absolutely know.

DaftyInTheMiddle · 19/12/2022 14:12

that can’t be true, can it? Surely women in their 50 and 60s don’t think it’s fine for a man, any man, to spew such vile commentary about a young women.
Looking on my local rag comment section it’s clear that lots of women and men of varying ages think it’s acceptable. Not only acceptable his right to say it. Or it’s ok to say it because it’s it’s ok for GOT to say it… mind.blown.

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2022 14:13

No one's asked them to apologise for anything. Camilla though, could do with distancing herself from the likes of Clarkson.

But what do I care, she's only damaging herself in the end.

If anyone wants to report it, you can do so here: www.ipso.co.uk/complain/complaints-form/

On R4 news a little while ago, they said that they'd had over 6,000 complaints about it.

amyneedssleep · 19/12/2022 14:24

Oh dear. Someone higher up than him must be rattled for him to be issuing this half-arsed apology.

Nogbreaks · 19/12/2022 14:26

It’s a modern day witch hunt, it was men with power then and it’s men in powerful position now. Just a different kind of power.
Clarkson sell’s papers, and gets website hits, which is all certain rags care about.
As long as they make money. If he started losing them money, that would be a different thing entirely.
I don’t know how Clarkson can look his daughter in the face. If my dad was like this I’d see a little as possible of home, and keep him well away from my own grandchildren.

‘Someone higher up than him must be rattled for him to be issuing this half-arsed apology.’

has he? I can’t be bothered to look, I’m pretty sure it’s along the lines of it’s a joke, or he meant it light heartedly or some such balls. We women are famously unable to take a joke or understand ‘bants’
if he has made some excuse it’ll be because his agent and PR people are having a fit.

No need for Camilla to be involved now eh?

Does anyone have a link? Links could be our friends...

Lesserspottedmama · 19/12/2022 14:36

I guess he was trying to be funny but it’s gone badly wrong, always a risk with newspaper columnists paid to entertain the most lowbrow of readers. I very much doubt he truly was lying there thinking about her in that way! However it clearly highlights more than ever what a twerp he is. And he’s played right into MM’s hands. Dislike the Sussex’s but him even more. They are al odious to be honest and none of them have my sympathy but he really tripped up here.

StormzyinaTCup · 19/12/2022 14:38

Because she's been hanging out socially with two men who've said disgusting things about her DIL in the press. For her own reputation she should be distancing herself from them and their words. But her / the palace's actions are doing nothing but prove H&M's point.

No, Camilla shouldn't base her social life around her spoilt and entitled stepson and his manipulative wife. MM & PH have their own voices and aren't afraid to use them. The RF don't owe the couple anything anymore. If the RF were to say something it won't be good enough for a lot of people and based on recent past behaviour the couple themselves will likely throw it back in their faces. The RF continuing to grey rock is the right thing to do in my opinion.

OllytheCollie · 19/12/2022 14:40

From the 'apology' and the column is it possible he really was trying to make a poor taste joke on himself that neither he nor his editors could see doesn't work because they all 'got' the joke. Presumably what he was saying was that the debate frames ridiculous stereotypes of him and old people like him as loathing Meghan to an unbelievable degree. Of course he doesn't really want to throw poo at her abd nor would he defend anyone who did. It's a classic reductio ad absurdam about her haters. On the other hand stereotyped young people think she had no agency and is an absolute victim of everything that happened (controlled by the palace and expected to embroider kittens). Again a reductio ad absurdam of Meghan's defenders. And actually the whole narrative is more complex than that. His tragedy is his 'joke' was so clever no one gets it. But also everyone who defends him is also undermining his argument, in that they are saying 'sure why shouldn't people publish articles saying they fantasise about inflicting violence on Meghan in the mainstream media, that's a completely normal opinion he's entitled to hold and not at all weird. Like the stuff they won't publish about covid vaccines or paedophiles running the White House'. When he was trying to argue the opposite. I almost feel sorry for him. But not really.

BodenCardiganNot · 19/12/2022 14:40

I'm sure the families of the victims of Rose West are finding no humour in any of this.

No one's said she should 'base her social life' around anyone.

But if they want to counter claims that H&M made, about being willing to sell them to the press, hanging with Clarkson now probably isn't the greatest of looks.

Up to her. Camilla is welcome to dig her own grave on this one as far as I'm concerned

It's the "oops, silly me, soz chums!" shite you expect, trying to paint himself as a lovable old buffoon who would never write about hating a woman, stripping her and covering her in shit because he wanted to be mean!

Erm. How was she going to justify what she did. I'm not sure it's us with comprehension problems.
