Feels Meghan has done to him to justify the vitriol and misogyny of that article he wrote where he’d like to see her naked and assaulted?

I mean WTF? How in earth did a major publication think that it was fine to publish his little sexual fantasy about hurting a woman like that?

I’m no fan of the Royals in any form, and could care less about their infighting, but why are we surprised that there is so much violence against women and girls when this kind of article by an influential man is seen as okay to write?
Where’s his description of a naked, vulnerable Harry being assaulted??

I feel as though the Daily Mail (yes I know JC was in The Sun) has mobilised the misogyny and racism of Britain through its anti-Meghan campaign. It has been so successful that now (some) people think it's ok to publish their violent fantasies in mainstream media.

To be honest, I don't think it's anything to do with MM, it's about the desperation of older white men to stay relevant in a world that no longer revolves around them exclusively. MM symbolises everything they fear - women, people of colour, non-Brits, people who challenge the narrative...

Agree with this.

Clarkson is a professional contrarian who relies on generating controversy to keep himself in work. He's an arrogant, opinionated arsehole whose misogny and intolerance have got him some sort of celebrity status, and he has to stir the shit every now and again to keep himself in the public eye.

He's a disgusting individual, and it's telling that this was in the Sun, which has a similar culture.

I've no idea if this sort of comment is something that the PCC would look into if there was a formal complaint, but it bloody well should be.

Octo5 · 19/12/2022 11:26

As well as it being a disgusting thing to wish on anyone, it really angers me that he’s picked her and left out Harry.

It’s very telling that he left out Harry but also named 2 other women.

There are a million men he could have chosen to name but no he is just a woman hating bully.

OMG12 · 19/12/2022 11:27

I too find Meghan hypocritical and repulsively manipulative and narcissistic.

JC. Has played right into her hands with his inexcusable misogynistic comments, but he’s always been a cunt so not surprising.

two truly awful people.

There would be front page headlines and calls from politicians for resignations if a similar view had been expressed about Kate - or other Royals.

But the only way for Clarkson to feel any consequences would be for ITV to do something. And then there would be outrage from some quarters about cancel culture and 'you can't say anything nowadays'

I’m not sure cancel culture is working these days. People have been encouraged in shameless behaviour since before trump started his campaign for 2016 elections. Kanye seems to be uncancellable.

It’s something I’m observing in other countries too. Some people have just lost their sense of decency and can’t be shamed/cancelled into changing for the better.

ReneBumsWombats · 19/12/2022 11:29

Nobody should be surprised. He's got a history of being a total arsehole. Top Gear would have been fine with someone else on it.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 19/12/2022 11:29

Roussette · 19/12/2022 11:22

Does that make it OK thought?

I've never watched Game of Thrones and had no idea what the references to it were about.

It makes it more explicable why he came up with that weird and unpleasant scenario, but no it doesn't make it OK for him to write it for a newspaper and have it published, especially with no context.

catandcoffee · 19/12/2022 11:30

If Jeremy Clarkson daughter posted on MN for advice..... keep in mind she'd be anonymous!

you'd all be saying to stay away and keep the baby away from him ....wouldn't you ?

DrDinosaur · 19/12/2022 11:31

FFS get a grip everyone, he clearly isn't seriously saying he wants this to happen to her, he is using hyperbole to communicate how irritating he finds her.
As do I, and its nothing to do with her racial background, it's because she's a vacuous, narcissistic, woke Californian.

Nogbreaks · 19/12/2022 11:32

I do wonder what the Sexual Assault charity that Camilla is involved with think of her hosting Clarkson… maybe they’re just like the other apologists, getting too much out of the association…

Cancel culture was idiotic. It was some extreme way of shutting down often reasonable positions.

this is what happens when the world is seen in black and white, it pushes people into extremes, politics, viewpoints etc.

cancel culture orchestrated its own demise! All these situations where people try and shut down debate usually end up causing more extreme reactions. The more people are silenced the louder they shout with increasingly controversial statements in order to be heard.

people need to get back up the middle and start accepting a range of opinion.

He's still entitled to his opinion and entitled to share it.
You don't have to like it or agree with it, but he's still entitled to it.

Yes, he can have an opinion like this and shame on him for doing so, but the editor, the publisher supporting this opinion by publishing it? It’s just wrong.

Until recently, twitter (of all places) would have banned this horrendous bloke from tweeting. Twitter possibly will ban him, but with Musk now owning it -who knows?

What is "Baby Botox"?

It's botox but in smaller amounts (so "tweaks" rather than full treatment). It's obviously from 500 paces that Kate is Botoxed to the hilt (as is her right), so the pointless denial that she has treatments, wears hair extensions and wiglets etc, vs the silence against literally calling for Meghan's death, is enormous.

So the only thing wrong with it is that he's given some traction to Meghan's claims about vile, bullying and racist media articles?

Yes his USP is being an offensive prat, he should be on the scrap heap not given a column in a paper.

It's a shame really, if he was intelligent he could have used his platform to critique the Netflix series a bit more subtly and sarcastically. This overt rubbish just fuels the whole 'they were bullied out of the UK' narrative.

so your saying he should have critiqued her 'a bit more subtly an sarcastically' so he could not be accused of bashing her and the usual suspects could have come out defending him.

This is exactly what the issue is, at least he has made it clear where he stands unlike many others who use subtly and sarcasm to hide their horrible views and then be supported by many jumping on the 'he didn't mean it' band waggon.

JanetheObscure · 19/12/2022 11:25

Interestingly, Clarkson wrote a completely anodyne column about something else in yesterday's Sunday Times and the comments underneath are fairly universal in their condemnation of his article in The Sun.

For context, Sunday Times readers' comments are not - in the main- favourable towards Harry and Meghan.

It's almost as if his evil comments were too much even for the racists... I suppose even vile people have a limit.

We know. That barely needs pointing out (although to your average Sun reader, who knows? The tabloids and their baying packs tend to be a very literal sort).

The usual protestation used by bullies and sexist pigs is 'can't you take a joke?' The implication here being that unless you say 'oh ha, ha, I get it! exaggeration for comedic effect!' he can then claim those readers are none-too bright or not very quick off the mark. It was predictable that people who think as he does would start to argue in those terms.

It's vert plausible deniability - the hallmark strategy of arseholes like him - calculated to get him off the hook when people predictably and rightly question his disgusting sentiments.

Perhaps you don't realize that makes Clarkson more repulsive, not less. He's not only a bigoted, sexist, hate-speech peddling arsehole, but a coward to boot.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 19/12/2022 11:38

'overt' plausible deniability, sorry.

‘That's all Clarkson is doing here, following his usual style of humour. It's not to be taken seriously.’

Having actually spent time with him, Incan tell you he’s one of the most humourless people I’be ever worked with. He’s also one of those men who’ll talk to ANY man of any rank in the room before addressing a woman.
Hes Ronseal - you get what you see - cantankerous, rude to juniors, sexist, incredibly confident, slightly racist.

And let's not forget the incident that led to the BBC sacking him: he had a tantrum because he was too late to get a hot meal in a hotel and punched a junior member of the production team.

He's a bully and a misogynist and I'm amazed that any paper gives him the time of day.

Raise your bar FFS!

You obviously let people talk to you like shit all of the time but for the majority of us it’s completely unacceptable for someone to say how they want us to be humiliated and attacked, let alone say it for the rest of the world to see.

I feel sorry for you if you think this is acceptable and think you need to work on your self worth.

It's an opinion.

It says a lot about the person expressing it and a lot about the paper publishing it.

Free to have that opinion. People can now see him for who he is.
