I don't have heating on overnight and 10.5 tog not cutting it. Should I get 13.5 or 15?

Eileen101 · 05/12/2022 19:36

Do you feel the cold? I'd go for alllllll the togs, but DH might divorce me Grin. 15 sounds amazing! I've not brought a duvet in a long time - are these a standard make now or somewhere specialist?

dementedpixie · 05/12/2022 19:36

My heating is also off but we only usually go up to a 10.5tog (scotland)

ofwarren · 05/12/2022 19:36

13.5 all year round
I like a heavy duvet.

OneFrenchEgg · 05/12/2022 19:37

13.5 just upgraded and omg I'm boiling. I'm menopausal and keep forgetting my HRT.

Blanketpolicy · 05/12/2022 19:38

No heating overnight. 4.5 tog and I throw it off during the night.

Menopause is saving me a fortune 🤦🏻‍♀️

Could you go for an electric blanket for just 10mins before you go to bed to warm it up, I find (pre meno) I would get uncomfortably warm if the tog was too high.

ditherydotty · 05/12/2022 19:38

13.5 is big fluffy and hot, I've an electric blanket too

Cocolapew · 05/12/2022 19:39

15, its great.

TattiePants · 05/12/2022 19:39

If you are going to upgrade your duvet then get a wool one. I have a 'warm' one which is equivalent to 12ish togs and it keeps us warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

YomAsalYomBasal · 05/12/2022 19:40

4.5. Menopause has its advantages

cobblers123 · 05/12/2022 19:41

13.5 plus a throw plus a folded throw on my feet plus my dressing gown over the top of all that. Plus bed socks.

I do feel the cold though and can't bear cold feet, I don't sleep if they're not warm.

uhtredbebbanburg · 05/12/2022 19:41

15! And I have a weighted blanket over that too. I'm in Scotland though. The weighted blanket is only on my side. I also have an electric under blanket on my side in the dead of winter just to warm up the bed but I haven't put it on yet this year.

RandomMess · 05/12/2022 19:42

No heating on

3 tog wool duvet and thin fleece throw sometimes on top but mostly not else I wake up sweltering. Don't let DH in the bed either as he's too bloody hot.

Menopause is weird.

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 05/12/2022 19:43

10.5 tog, supplemented with a blanket if required. I run hot, husband runs cold. Perhaps we should have separate duvets!

Pushkinia · 05/12/2022 19:44

7.5 tog is my winter duvet (and I’m still often too hot, even with no heating on). Summer duvet is 2.5 tog!

LynneBenfield · 05/12/2022 19:49

9, it’s the warmer half of my ‘all seasons’ duvet. A 4.5 & 9 which can be used separately or buttoned together to make a 13.5 tog for very cold snaps. I live in a mid part of the UK so rarely clip them together.

LynneBenfield · 05/12/2022 19:51

*mild, not mid

bigbluebus · 05/12/2022 19:54

10.5 tog. Heating goes off at 10.30pm and comes back on at 06.30am. I am plenty warm enough.

user7845209 · 05/12/2022 19:54

10.5 tog plus I wear pyjamas, no heating at night, electric blanket on for about 10 minutes to take the chill off.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 05/12/2022 19:54

I have a 15tog which is probably just on the cusp of too hot but it's so thick and comforting and I paid a fortune for it so refuse to get a thinner less sweat inducing one.

Meggie2008 · 05/12/2022 19:54

13.5 tog in winter, which we just put on last week, 4.5 tog in summer. Live in Scotland

Baconand · 05/12/2022 19:54

13.5, it’s a 9 with a 4.5 that you can join together. I also have an enormous cellular blanket which I add in extreme temps.
We had the double glazing put in today though so will see how that goes.
I used to have a 15 but found it too hot in our old house so got rid of it (well insulated and new) but we now live in an old cottage so perhaps should’ve kept it!

MarkBright · 05/12/2022 20:01

Very northern England, 4.5 tog no heating at night.

FelizNavicrab · 05/12/2022 20:02

13.5 with a throw and a large dog on top.

It's a bit too much, tbh.

Bluelightbaby · 05/12/2022 20:03

Heating is off at night too - we still have a 1 tog on !!!! I sleep with full pjs on as it’s too cold for me but DP sleeps naked and is still warm !

Kiitos · 05/12/2022 20:05

@Pushkinia me too except my summer duvet is 1 tog! Best purchase ever!
I layer up my 7.5 tog winter duvet with a quilt and a crochet blanket though. Easier to control temperature that way!
