I don't have heating on overnight and 10.5 tog not cutting it. Should I get 13.5 or 15?

9 tog

  • 2 quilted blankets and a fleece throw. Plus I wear bed socks and thick pyjamas. I hate being cold

Hang on, some people have heating on a night? All night? Really???

To answer the question, 4.5, sleep naked and I’m still boiling 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yep, really.

I've got COPD and am meant to have a min temp of 18° in my bedroom.

Mum2jenny · 05/12/2022 21:45

10.5 tog duvet here, partly for dh who is always cold. But I do get too hot with it and have to have limbs out periodically to cool down. Personally a 7.5 tog would be more than warm enough for me. Bedroom temperature is around 13 degrees

fitflopqueen · 05/12/2022 21:46

Wool duvet 10 tog, velvety throw which is thrown off during night.
wear pyjamas and sometimes use heated blanket to warm bed before getting in. Heating off from 9ish, about 15 degrees upstairs and drops a bit overnight.

DanaScully53 · 05/12/2022 21:51

I feel the cold, other half doesn't. So in one quilt cover we have a 1tog and a 4.5tog. In another quilt cover we have a thick heavy 13.5 tog goose down quilt which I love and usually ends up double over me so I technically have 31tog 😴. Always sleep in just nix no heating and windows cracked open. North of England. I seem to sleep better with heavy goosey so I might see about getting a weighted blanket for summer.

Titsywoo · 05/12/2022 21:53

We have a 13.5 tog duvet and then one of these over the top - super toasty! www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09HR35RNF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Porridgeislife · 05/12/2022 21:54

9 tog which is plenty. Our room is between 14-16 degrees at night. Anything heavier and we’d be sweating to death.

longtompot · 05/12/2022 21:55

13.5 tog with a thinnish blanket over the top which has really helped.

Oh, and a spaniel from sunrise. She helps a lot 😉

pursuedbyablackdog · 05/12/2022 21:57

4.5 tog, thick wool blanket on top, currently have brushed cotton duvet cover and sheets. Thermal pjs, hooded poncho, woolly socks and I stay toasty...also makes getting up in the cold morning easier! Temp was down to 10c when I looked late last night.
I think last year the coldest temp was 8
c. We've never had heating on at night.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 05/12/2022 21:59

Another 4.5 tog here.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 05/12/2022 21:59

4.5tog, all year round.
Hot water bottle in winter, just for me.

Thermostat is set to 12C overnight, so the heating is not off, but generally doesn't fire up.

Sciurus83 · 05/12/2022 22:00

I got a long hot water bottle in Primark which is brilliant for warming the bed

SleepingisanArt · 05/12/2022 22:03

2.5 tog (silk filled). On the bed all year round. Perfectly warm enough in the winter, heating not on overnight.

SnarkyBag · 05/12/2022 22:06

I wouldn’t replace your duvet get a flat sheet and a couple of polar fleece blankets

i don’t have a duvet at all anymore I use a flat sheet, two or three thin fleece blankets and an empty duvet cover on top. No heating at night and usually wake up roasting.

fairtrauchled · 05/12/2022 22:09

4.5 tog all year round. No heating on in bedroom overnight.
I do use a brushed cotton fitted sheet in winter which makes the bed cosy.Live in Scotland.

Spliffle · 05/12/2022 22:09

Bloody hell, I must be an outlier, I have a 15tog which I find very insufficient. I suppliment it with two pure wool blankets folded double and a fur throw, plus 2 hot water bottles. Then it's bearable.

Teapleasebobb · 05/12/2022 22:09

We've just changed our duvet over to a 13.5 tog and it's toasty!

AppleandSpice · 05/12/2022 22:10

15 Tog which is a killer when I’m having hot flushes, I sleep in a t-shirt (need to have bare legs) but have still been waking up cold recently.
Hot flushes have calmed down now, so added a fleece blanket a few nights ago under my quilt and last night for the first time in several years slept in a long sleeved top.

CrunchyCarrot · 05/12/2022 22:25

10.5 tog - anything more is too heavy, I find. I also have a hot water bottle and wear socks, T shirt and long nightie! We have our heating set to come on if the temp drops lower than 17.5.

VioletLemon · 05/12/2022 22:28

Mine is light, 4 I think, also got window open. DH is 15 as he really feels the cold. We have our own rooms for these reasons!

Takeitonthechin · 05/12/2022 22:31

15 tog

Tipsyturvychocolatemonster · 05/12/2022 22:33

13.5 duck feather, it’s glorious

XenoBitch · 05/12/2022 22:34

4.5 I think. A summer one?

gogohmm · 05/12/2022 22:36

9, it's fine (2 people, does make a difference, if dp is away I have a throw as well)

BarrelOfOtters · 05/12/2022 22:39

Jus5 clipped the other bit on ours tonight so now 13.5. It’s a wool one, brilliant for the menopause. I’m up north and it’s cold.
