I don't have heating on overnight and 10.5 tog not cutting it. Should I get 13.5 or 15?

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 05/12/2022 22:39

I have a 13.5 tog and a 10.5 tog and its lovely and cosy under both of them. No heating on and we like the window open

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 05/12/2022 22:42

10.5 spring/autumn. 4.5 summer. 13.5 winter.

Im full of cold so have layered the 10.5 with the 13.5. DH has retreated to the spare room 😂

Justgorgeous · 05/12/2022 22:43

4.5 tog and window wide open. No pjs !

TheWorstWeek · 05/12/2022 22:45

Live in Scotland and have no heating on. I like to be warm in bed so we have a 15tog. Kids have 13.5 tog on their beds as they run a wee bit hotter overnight. 10.5 tog all round in the summer although when it gets really hot we end up sleeping on top of them with the windows open! I miss that right now.

allboysherebutme · 05/12/2022 22:48

13:5 with hallway radiator on, maybe 15:0 if you are a very cold person. X

MenopauseSucks · 05/12/2022 22:52

10.5 tog - winter
4.5 tog - summer
Add 'em together & you get 15 tog for Arctic conditions!

Plus hot water bottle, pyjamas & bed socks.
My problem is I tend to throw an arm from out of the covers when I'm asleep & I wake up because my hand is freezing cold! Most unpleasant...

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 05/12/2022 22:52

4.5 tog with a thin blanket that I throw off in the night. DH doesn't have the blanket over him. No PJs and heating off, window open a little bit. In the autumn/spring it's a 2.5 and in the summer it's a sheet and a blanket. In hotels I'm always too hot and take the duvet out and just sleep under the cover.

Iamthewombat · 05/12/2022 22:57

I’m having a stand-off with my husband at the moment. He wants to swap the perfectly acceptable 10.5 tog wool duvet for the 13.5 tog duck quilt. Moaning that he’s too cold and asking for extra fleecy blankets. No. He disturbs me enough, tossing and turning dramatically and falling asleep with his reading lamp on.I don’t need to be too hot as well!

Clarabellasingsthisbit · 05/12/2022 22:58

4.5 tog, plus a quilted bedspread and a fleece blanket on top because we prefer layers.I did buy a 13.5 tog duvet once ; it felt really heavy in comparison and was consigned to the airing cupboard after just one night! I have a single electric blanket just for my side of the bed as DH doesn't like anything like that, and I switch it on for a few minutes prior to going to bed. We have no heating on overnight.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 05/12/2022 23:02

4.5 tog with a toasty blanket folded in half for my feet. If it goes below 13° overnight (indoors), the blanket will be pulled up, over the cat.
My 15 tog duvet was nabbed by my ds who seems to run cold.
I may use a 10.5 tog if it gets really cold.

WibblyWobblyTimeyWimeyStuff · 05/12/2022 23:02

13.5 Smile

RoseMartha · 05/12/2022 23:05

I have a 13.5 tog and two blankets and hot water bottles tonight and it is the warmest I have been all day.

Although I did thaw out a bit when the heat came on for an hour this evening.

What temp is your room? Mine drops to about 14 at night and is about 16-17 in the day atm.

So if colder than 14 you might need the 15 tog duvet. You can get those summer and winter ones that join together.

In the summer I have the opposite issue and it is too hot. Three months ago it was 28 in my bedroom at night.

PritiPatelsMaker · 05/12/2022 23:06

All the togs at the moment plus a dif to warm my toes on! Grin

LesOliviers · 05/12/2022 23:07

No overnight heating here either and I'm using a 7.5 tog. I am a hot sleeper though. Although I usually sleep in just my knickers and I've been wearing pyjama bottoms in bed for the past week. Considering upping my tog too, but I won't go any higher than a 10.5.

SKIPWAY · 05/12/2022 23:13

4.5 will chuck blankets on and off at the weather changes but I had a non insulated room attic room as a kid so I definitely prefer a cold bedroom, the rest of the house is kept toasty though I'm not a sadist.

SKIPWAY · 05/12/2022 23:16

To add I would never have heating on overnight thankfully my own children like a cool room to sleep

Funkyblues101 · 05/12/2022 23:16

10.5 with extra blankets. We've only ever had the heating on for a blast in the evening and early morning so all of us are used to sleeping under lots of lovely layers (with ice cold noses).

I didn't even know he got a 4.5 tog duvet. 😮

WibblyWobblyTimeyWimeyStuff · 05/12/2022 23:17

he got = you could get!!!

Q2C4 · 05/12/2022 23:42

Eileen101 · 05/12/2022 19:36

Do you feel the cold? I'd go for alllllll the togs, but DH might divorce me Grin. 15 sounds amazing! I've not brought a duvet in a long time - are these a standard make now or somewhere specialist?

I've got a duvet which is a higher tog on my side and a lower tog on my husband's side. Probably saved our marriage! 🤣

Heartbreaktuna · 05/12/2022 23:47

3-4 tog. NE Scotland. No heating on at night.

I was really hoping to see someone else mention pregnancy. Ever since having my son (2 years go!) I am like a furnace at night. Is that normal?!

YewandOak · 05/12/2022 23:56

4.5 tog here, window usually open slightly.Electric blanket for if and when I feel cold during the night.

moonisblue · 06/12/2022 00:03

My winter duvet is a 7.5tog down one. Expensive but so worth it. Recently teamed it up with one of these teddy fleece sheets and it’s absolute bliss!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/12/2022 00:16

4.5 all year round
Menopausal!

fizzypop100 · 06/12/2022 00:26

4.5 . Any more is far too warm. No heating on after 9.30 p.m.
