AIBU to give up a seat on a busy train for a mum carrying a young toddler?

YANBU would be very kind

crussont · 02/12/2022 19:02

Who is saying you would be? If you're sat in it you can give it up to whoever you like.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 02/12/2022 19:04

Are you looking for praise?

AmyDudley · 02/12/2022 19:04

why would you imagine you were being unreasonable - you can give up your seat for anyone you like. Did someone on the train complain?

Blowyourowntrumpet · 02/12/2022 19:05

Yes, you're being massively unreasonable. Let them stand up

ItsTheSmallThings · 02/12/2022 19:06

I'm just looking for general opinions on when you wouldn't/ would give up your seat.

I always 100% give up my seat for women carrying babies or young children, or allow a child to sit. It’s just plain good manners isn’t it? Obviously I give my seat up for a pregnant lady too, though when I was commuting pregnant 15yrs ago I was only given a seat twice. I was obviously pregnant in the last 3 months too, but guess it’s not easy standing on a packed train so everyone has their head in a book or phone to pretend they don’t notice.

Whenever I see someone who needs it and I don't need it. I usually need it tbh.

gavisconismyfriend · 02/12/2022 19:08

Is this a reverse?

aquarius100 · 02/12/2022 19:09

Why would this ever be considered unreasonable?

CloudSunLeavesCoud · 02/12/2022 19:09

Is this a reverse? Of course yanbu why would that b u?

XenoBitch · 02/12/2022 19:09

Have a pat on the back, because that is why you posted.

Mummieslncorporated · 02/12/2022 19:10

Reverse?

user143677433 · 02/12/2022 19:10

There are literally signs up asking people to do this, so obviously NBU

Toottooot · 02/12/2022 19:11

You’re the ma with the kid then?

Myguessis · 02/12/2022 19:12

Depends on your situation - no point being a martyr if you need the seat.

Reminds me, I once offered my seat to a very heavily pregnant woman, she was really offended.

Now I'm more wary...

ItsTheSmallThings · 02/12/2022 19:13

It was me and toddler. People on the train looked at us then looked down. We nearly went flying and a young lad noticed and offered me his seat. Bless him, he even said i will stand and watch your pram which I thought was very kind. Just got me wondering what the train etiquette is as it's been years since I caught one.

Your joking, why on earth was she offended?

OP posts:
Myguessis · 02/12/2022 19:15

Thinking about it, I don't think I'd really consider it for a woman with a toddler.

Pregnant
Disabled
Elderly
Someone asks me

Then it's on my radar. But not everyone with a young kid.

So you're a better person than I am!

EarringsandLipstick · 02/12/2022 19:16

So you're a better person than I am!

Except she's not, because she is doing a (tiresome) kind of reverse.

OneFrenchEgg · 02/12/2022 19:17

I might for a toddler actually. I don't for pregnant people as they might just be fat/an unusual shape/menopausal. I do for anyone who looks like they need a seat more than me.

ItsTheSmallThings · 02/12/2022 19:14

She said "I'm pregnant, not disabled." And shot me a death stare worse than Paddington Bear.

She really was very heavily pregnant and had heavy shopping bags, it was busy, she looked knackered.

No good deed 😬

Hoppinggreen · 02/12/2022 19:18

You total fucking hero
