Parents refuse use of vaccinated blood in life-saving surgery on baby - New Zealand

NadjaCravensworth · 30/11/2022 15:26

The parents of the baby discussed their son’s health situation and their medical preferences in an interview with an anti-vaccination campaigner.
In the interview the parents say their baby has severe pulmonary valve stenosis, and that he needs surgery “almost immediately”, but that they are “extremely concerned with the blood [the doctors] are going to use”.
“We don’t want blood that is tainted by vaccination,” the father said. “That’s the end of the deal – we are fine with anything else these doctors want to do.”

So you would rather your baby died than had blood from someone who is vaccinated.

At what point does this not become child abuse / murder - this child could die due to the beliefs of the parents?

Ok, I don't understand why you messaged me either 😂

I didn't message you. 😂 I replied to something you wrote. Anyone can do that on a forum. 🤔

why dont the parents of the baby donate their own blood. Failing that why are there not other babies whose blood could be used? the vast majority of babies should have blood not tainted by a covid vaccination

You want babies to donate blood? Shock Just no.

Also you would have to ensure the mother hadn’t been vaccinated since she grew them.

ginghamstarfish · 30/11/2022 17:57

They clearly have different regulations re blood in NZ. We lived there for a few years, and went to donate blood but it was refused as we were from the UK and might have had mad cow disease ....

Babies do need specific blood, it has to be free from CMV. Apologies to the baby who got my covid vaccine tainted blood last month

Neither does twitter.

Because we don't get to pick and choose who we get blood from. The blood service screens donors, screens blood and decides whether it's acceptable. Also you need to be 17 to give blood. It would be highly unethical to take blood from a baby who cannot give informed consent.

Parents or recipients can't then start adding in their own criteria such as they only want blood from a man, or a white person, or someone in their 20s, or not a Jew/Christian/Muslim, or not a gay person, or whatever.

onlythreenow · 30/11/2022 18:00

It's worthwhile painting out that NZ played the hokey-cokey with the astrazenica vaccine casting doubt about its safety and rejecting it initially in favour of Pfizer vaccine. If people have suspicions and doubts about vaccines then I'd suggest poor state messaging didn't help the matter.

Well, given that Pfizer has proven to be a better vaccine they made the right decision. They later did order a quantity of AZ but it wasn't really wanted by the population. State messaging didn't even mention the AZ vaccine, we knew very early on that it was going to be Pfizer.

Tekkentime · 30/11/2022 18:03

Many countries wouldn't accept british people's blood because of mad cows disease so it's not totally crazy.

Just wondering how unvaccinated blood donations could work in reality 🤔

You think babies should be able to donate blood? Give me strength

You know anti-vaxxers use the same rhetoric for the vaxxed. Two sides of the same coin.

What was it the anti vaxxers used to say? The vaxxed will be dead in two years. Oh well here we still are. More of us as a % than the unvaxxed. Have your little conspiracy theory even if it flies in the face of reality. It reminds me of the flat earthers who spent thousands on a gyroscope and deemed it broken because it proved the earth was round. You can’t fight the illogical with logic.

Dacadactyl · 30/11/2022 18:06

@Annabel073 and @titchy

I admit, I go a lot on intuition. Rightly or wrongly, the science of it is neither here nor there for me. I just feel that a new virus cropped up in early 2020 and by the end of that year, a vaccine had been rolled out. My intuition says that surely it takes months for them to study the disease, let alone come up with and produce the vaccine.

Alongside this, I have a distrust of all governments. I mean, it just doesn't stand to reason that in one breath they tell us we are overpopulated and theres a climate crisis and then in the next they're desperate to prolong the lives of everyone.

I appreciate that these may be fringe views, but I don't try to force them down the throats of others. Just trying to explain where I'm coming from really. No one is going to be able to change my mind.

Mangolist · 30/11/2022 18:06

I would accept blood from my cat, if it meant one of my children or grandchildren would live. It's horrific that someone would allow a child to die for such spurious and unproven reasons

Oh dear another one 😅
My point was don't wish death on anyone.

pointythings · 30/11/2022 18:09

@Tekkentime that isn't a comparable situation because variant CJD is a prion disease, not a virus, and can be transmitted via blood. A vaccine cannot (though antibodies can).

I understand you but if parents like them, or other people feel so upset then maybe alternatives could be possible.

"I just rely on intuition".

Jeezo.

Unless you are a vaccine specialist or researcher, you too went on intuition when deciding to take the vaccine.

The scientists and government encouraged people to take it and you trusted them. You listened to your intuition when you did this.

The fact that we came to different conclusions is ok.

Yeah I had that when I returned to Ireland from Britain. But I think its 'timed out ' now? BSE was over 20 years ago after all.

These YouTube charlatans have a lot to answer for re the covid vaccine. I know otherwise sane people who believe them.

Ambertonix · 30/11/2022 18:19

@Dacadactyl Very well said. We are as entitled to our opinions as anyone else here and, i'll tell you what, 'intuition' and 'gut feeling' have served me very well so far.

MrsMontyD · 30/11/2022 18:19

It doesn't take weeks for blood to get tested and made ready, I usually get a text around a week after my donation to say my blood has been issued to a hospital, and that's not in an emergency, I'm sure it could be done much faster as a priority. I tend to agree they're trying not to set a precedent.

@Maiyakat My blood is also tagged for neonates and I've been vaccinated, it always gets used quickly.
