I am in this situation now and really struggling with this decision, I have an 8 month old DD and just found out I am pregnant. My marriage is very rocky and DH has been staying at his mums, I really wanted my marriage to work so I have been so preoccupied with that, I feel so guilty that I am in this position, but I know I can’t have another baby in this situation, it wouldn’t be fair on my DD.

However, if someone who is very much pro-life says well no we know life begins at conception (scientific fact) so there is another life other than the women's, then all the sudden they get thrown to all hells of the world

Im pro choice and I don’t argue for a minute that life doesn’t behind at conception. Maybe it does. But the bottom line is always: the woman’s life trumps that of the foetus. Every. Single. Time. And the two lives are not, in any way, equal. The woman is more important. Every. Single. Time.

I feel like the whole “life begins at conception” (BTW it’s not scientific fact, science does not rely on abstract semantics) is a ‘gotcha’ from forced birthers but TBH it’s just a piss poor argument.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 27/11/2022 12:42

Someone who is pro-choice will argue a women should get to abort as many times as they want because it's 'their body'.

And that's all that matters. The woman's bodily autonomy trumps everything.

georgarina · 27/11/2022 12:50

What would be the limit, then, if you were in charge? Regardless of circumstances you must not go over the limit otherwise you're forced to carry to term?

This is also a stupid argument because abortion is not a fun or easy thing. Women are not queueing up for abortions waving loyalty cards. No one 'wants' to go through one abortion, let alone multiple.

And if you do have a problem with this idea of irresponsible women who love getting abortions just for the hell of it, do you think those women are the right ones to force to raise children?

Same. Where life begins is irrelevant to me. Being alive does not mean that a woman is obliged to support said life with her own body if she doesn’t want to.

it’s also irrelevant when you consider that, legal or not, women will have abortions. They always have done. It’s not a choice between legal abortion or saving babies, it’s a choice between legal or illegal abortion. It’s disingenuous to call being anti abortion ‘pro life’ when illegal abortion is a leading cause of death for women worldwide.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/11/2022 12:58

@whumpthereitis i think we make the mistake that forced birthers actually give a shit about women though - they don’t care that women are dying having illegal abortions. They only care about the ‘life’ - up until birth though and not a minute after. So called pro lifers aren’t campaigning for better welfare states, or better outcomes for young or single mothers, or fighting against poverty. Once that baby is born they don’t give a fuck.

Cuppasoupmonster · 27/11/2022 13:00

I had one as a teenager. I don’t regret it. I was in no position to look after a baby, frankly it would’ve been neglected.

It’s the cognitive dissonance of calling themselves ‘pro life’ when their position is one of support for a leading cause of death worldwide.

and then getting offended when you call them what they are.

Freshmind001 · 27/11/2022 13:04

I only made one point (that is a scientific finding) and even that is being shut down. I guess we all view the value of life different 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I know some people are really trying to push my views out so you can sit and ridicule me so you feel like you really got one on me but I still very much stand by my point. If anything, it makes me even more pro-life just reading some comments.

If you want to argue & offend pro-lifers, honestly just create a thread. I am sure you will get lots of responses.

Have a lovely day everyone.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/11/2022 13:07

Can you link to a reputable source that states a foetus is considered to be scientifically ‘alive’ @Freshmind001

Not that it matters. Women’s lives are still more important.

I didn’t shut you down at all - in fact if you read my post I said I was in agreement - it could be considered a ‘life’. But that’s irrelevant. Because the woman’s life trumps that of the foetus inside her.

…okay? Calling shit, shit really doesn’t require effort. No ‘really trying’ about it, unless acknowledging reality is suddenly considered taxing.

How are you being shut down? Because your ‘scientific finding’ isn’t being considered some earth shattering revelation that somehow ends the debate, negates all other opinions, and changes tangible reality? ‘It’s alive!’ - okay, and? Alive or not, women will have abortions as they always have. Your choice is between legal abortion and actually supporting life, or being a cheerleader for a leading cause of death in women worldwide. Pretend otherwise all you like though.

✌🏼

It is life; please feel free to otherwise state where it says life does not begin at conception, and like I said we all clearly view the value of life different. It's really a dead end argument.

It’s not a dead end argument. I’m happy to say a foetus is alive - but it’s irrelevant because the alive woman matters more.
You’re the one claiming ‘life begins at conception’ is a proven scientific fact. I’m simply asking for a source that’s all. Shouldn’t be too hard?

Freshmind001 · 27/11/2022 13:26

@whumpthereitis

Sorry your struggling to accept that I just could not care less what you type anymore. Literally nothing you say will make me have a change of heart. I value BOTH the life of the mother AND CHILD or 'clump of cells' as you'll probably type next. I value those clumps of cells just as much. So truly✌🏼

Its easy to ridicule someone who simply wants to remove womens rights. Forced birther are very easy to ridicule.

TBH I’d you value a clump of cells just as much as a living breathing woman who has a life to lead that will be impacted by an unwanted child, it just makes you sound like a really horrible person. Imagine hating women so much that you think they’re no more important than a zygote that sits within them.

’I don’t care’ she says, as she keeps on hitting that reply button.

Nope, got no problem with you calling it a child. You can call it the Burj Khalifa if you’d like, as that also changes fuck all.

Freshmind001 · 27/11/2022 13:33

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet

You really don't need my sources because it's the first line you'll see on Google alone 'when does life scientifically begin'. The findings are all there for you to take time out and read yourself.

I am sorry but I'll have to disagree, one life is not anymore important than the other.

FallingsHowIFeel · 27/11/2022 13:33

If this is a genuine thread, it would have been better in the pregnancy choices topic. I can’t imagine why anyone struggling with this decision would post in AIBU. It’s not a case of it being hidden, just a case of getting good support instead of a row.

Freshmind001 · 27/11/2022 13:34

It really is the case that a woman is more important than an embryo.

Question: there’s a Jennifer building with a 3 year old child in it and a petri dish with an embryo. Which one do you save? Be honest.

And science is objective and true fact - Google ‘when does life scientifically begin’ you will get different results depending on who’s being asked. From what I can see scientists don’t know (because in terms of science it doesn’t matter).

I hate it when people claim “this has been proven” and then won’t provide a simple source. It’s just lazy arguing and, to put it bluntly, lying.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/11/2022 13:36

I agree. This 'row' started because someone decided to point fingers at Christian at why OP felt guilty even though there was nothing but positive comments from everyone including a 'christian' (myself and another).

Pretty sure it started because you decided to white knight over the ‘pro life’ label and proceeded to not-care all over the last couple of pages.
