England Taking The Knee

Thoughts on the team taking the knee??

I'm in no way racist, I don't care what colour someone's skin is, I have and always will judge people as people, but this really gets to me and I don't agree with the whole knee thing.

What do you think?

What is it about a symbolic act against racism that upsets someone who is "in no way racist".

Just asking.

carefulcalculator · 21/11/2022 14:11

Biscuit for your faux naivity.

I assume you believe in people being free to have their own views? In which case, it is nothing to do with you how someone else chooses to express themselves.

And you can carry on disagreeing with their anti-racist position, that's your right.

StarlightLady · 21/11/2022 14:11

If you are not racist what is the problem?

TruckDriving · 21/11/2022 14:11

It's an anti-racist gesture so unless someone is anti anti-racist (ie racist) then what could they possibly have to object about?

This

Why does it get to you and why do you disagree?

(I don't disagree by the way. I think more should be done to tackle racism anywhere and I appreciate players and others standing up to racism and showing their support).

Loics · 21/11/2022 14:12

Well I'm not a racist, so I don't have a problem with it. Good in them.

SummaLuvin · 21/11/2022 14:12

It's a political protest, one which I agree with, racism has no place in football.

However, rainbow armbands and Denmarks human rights kit have been banned, under the resonating no political protests are allowed in the game. And yet this was permitted? So it's not all political gestures banned, but FIFA pick and choose the ones they think matter enough. And it's a shame the England men seem to have done the same. They really care about human rights and LGBTQ community, until that care costs them, then they drop it...

Eleusa · 21/11/2022 14:12

I fully support them taking the knee. What's the issue?

roarfeckingroarr · 21/11/2022 14:13

I think it's performative and often hypocritical, so yes I sigh inwardly when I see it

SavingKitten · 21/11/2022 14:13

How can it ‘get to’ you, unless you are racist? It’s kneeling down, and has no impact on your life… so what’s the problem exactly?

onlyconnect · 21/11/2022 14:14

Not being racist isn't just about being nice to people of all races, it's about realising that racism is about power and wanting to challenge racism.

TinFoilHatty · 21/11/2022 14:16

When you say it gets to you, can you explain a bit more about what this means?

I would like to point out that people who 'don't see colour' are part of the problem. If someone doesn't acknowledge or realise the problems they can't be part of the solution.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/11/2022 14:17

Fully support it.

ive no idea why they can do this but not wear “one love” armbands, but that’s a different question

JauntyJinty · 21/11/2022 14:18

I doesn't bother me - but I do think it's lost it's meaning now. It's just become an expected thing that happens at the start of each match rather than a protest.

If they actually cared about the things they claim to they'd be wearing the armbands and taking a risk, like the American footballers who originally took a knee at the start of their matches.

TheNoonBell · 21/11/2022 14:19

The argument seems to be:

If you don't agree with burning witches you must be a witch.

EuripidesEumenides · 21/11/2022 14:19

I don't particularly like the gesture but I can't particularly bring myself to care one way or the other. The team won't help nor harm anyone if they choose to do it.

GreenWheat · 21/11/2022 14:20

England's players are regularly subjected to racist abuse. It is entirely appropriate that this is called out on the international stage. And today so far all three goals have come from black and mixed race players. I hope those vile trolls picking up race and goal scoring are eating their revolting words this afternoon.

Absolutely ridiculous. You can really compare kneeling down to burning a person alive for one thing.

SavingKitten · 21/11/2022 14:21

And also witches don’t exist… racism does.

This too

They'll just retreat into their caves until England lose, then they'll come back with their charming death threats directed at some 20 year old lad whose crime was to miss a kick whilst being Black or mixed race, I would imagine.

Theradioisoncoco · 21/11/2022 14:22

OP I think you're talking rubbish quite honestly. I'm glad they do it, why don't you like or approve of it then or do we just have to guess?

Notanotherone6 · 21/11/2022 14:22

Each to their own but it feels a bit like virtue signalling to me.

drivinmecrazy · 21/11/2022 14:23

And yet rainbow armbands aren't allowed?
To me it highlights the fact that racism is bad yet being anything other than heterosexual is 🤷‍♀️
Obviously I support taking the knee yet why the hypocrisy.
That's the real question that should be asked

Pootles34 · 21/11/2022 14:24

OP you haven't told us what you think - you don't agree, but why? I'm genuinely befuddled as to how you can disagree with a peaceful form of protest against racism? They aren't holding up the M25 or throwing tomato soup at priceless paintings, they're just kneeling?
