England Taking The Knee

Thoughts on the team taking the knee??

I'm in no way racist, I don't care what colour someone's skin is, I have and always will judge people as people, but this really gets to me and I don't agree with the whole knee thing.

What do you think?

It's rather outdated and I don't get why they keep doing it when no other team is.

They could have run around on their knees and would still have beaten Iran.....

Thus replied the sanctimonious person, agree with me or you're wrong!

Truth hurts Judgy

Cas112 · 21/11/2022 16:13

Why does it matter?

You obviously have some kind of issue with race when your complaining about something symbolising a fight against racism

'Why would I say I'm racist if I'm not? Just because I don't like taking the knee has no reflection. I have a very multi cultural family - I'm in no way racist*'

Just because you say your not racist doesn't mean your not racist😂

What about it offends you OP?

If they want to take a stand against racism then fantastic in my book.

WaveyHair · 21/11/2022 15:16

So they take the knee to show solidarity with coloured people (totally disagree with racism but taking the knee is the wrong way to raise the issue). Had intentions, but backed out, of the OneLove armband for solidarity with the LGBTIA movement.

But they are playing against Iran who are known for brutality against women. How are they marking, or planning to mark & raise this issue?

Coloured people???????

Says it all. Awful and ignorant use of language

MollieMarie · 21/11/2022 16:21

They only do it because racism directly affects them with almost half their team being black. They couldn't care less about matters that don't affect them personally.

It's why they don't protest other issues like women's rights and why they backed out of wearing armbands in support of the LGBT community. None of them are women and none of them are gay so they don't care.

Whit3Pumpkin84 · 21/11/2022 16:21

So taking the knee is allowed but not rainbow flags. Sure that will make gay youngsters feel really great.🤔

GreenWheat · 21/11/2022 16:22

AriettyHomily · 21/11/2022 14:38

Virtue signalling. Doesn't achieve anything.

I disagree. "Virtue signalling" is such an overused phrase at the moment. Taking the knee as a team is showing solidarity with their teammates who face a barrage of racist abuse for doing their job, and saying it has no place in football. So it achieves the aim of saying that they think all those who type racist vitriol about the team are aresholes.

MsFannySqueers · 21/11/2022 16:22

I agree with you @MarieIVanArkleStinks you articulated how I feel better than I ever could !Thank you.

GimmeBiscuits · 21/11/2022 16:22

SummaLuvin · 21/11/2022 14:12

It's a political protest, one which I agree with, racism has no place in football.

However, rainbow armbands and Denmarks human rights kit have been banned, under the resonating no political protests are allowed in the game. And yet this was permitted? So it's not all political gestures banned, but FIFA pick and choose the ones they think matter enough. And it's a shame the England men seem to have done the same. They really care about human rights and LGBTQ community, until that care costs them, then they drop it...

Agree with you.
If they feel that strongly about LGBTQI etc rights though then they should have refused to go and play football in a country that doesn't support those same rights. But I guess, as you say, it comes down to money.
Shame that there is so little integrity where it matters.

Weird how everyone is allowed an opinion except me. Or is it just white people allowed who are allowed to give opinions?

Cas112 · 21/11/2022 16:23

@Toffoo obviously I have a problem with homophobia and misogyny you weirdo 😂

I was just talking about the point of the OPs original post so you calm your socks

There are thousands of things to take a stand against in this world and they only have a few seconds to do it. Racism is the biggest issue facing the England football team so they focus on that. I also dislike animal abuse, massive carbon footprints and people trafficking but don't think there would be time for all that.

LondonWolf · 21/11/2022 16:27

Taking the knee comes from BLM doesn't it? Those "trained Marxists" who mostly seem to be getting done for fraud and buying big houses these days. I think it's a load of performative nonsense and it makes me cringe, though I know those doing it probably think they're doing something valuable,

I feel that only racists object to statements that condone racism.

So many of the England team have been subjected to horrific racism it's a good platform to get a message out

ChocoStripe · 21/11/2022 16:29

YANBU. I have a problem with it too. For starters why is the default racism that we'd even need to demonstrate how anti-racism we are with a symbolic gesture? And what's with taking the knee? That's a subservient gesture, one that was traditionally done before god (or king & country). Absolutely no need to do so before anyone else.
