So last year … after Naughty Boy got kicked out there was controversy at the all white camp! Charlene, Scarlett out and Baba in the bottom two too!! Racism!

People would be crying sexism if the women eliminated were of more than one race.
But when both women both happen to be of the same race, then it's obvious that this "ism" would stand out more

If Sue goes next will it then become sexism rather than racism?

Most likely.

Nadal · 21/11/2022 10:47

They need to change to vote out rather than vote for favourite. Agree this is pants

girlmom21 · 21/11/2022 10:48

I just think 2 might be the start of a pattern but it's not enough to prove discrimination. Let's see how it plays out. I really hope it isn't racism and I don't think it is - but I obviously don't know how other people think @Freddieonahill

I think they do it this way to keep the biggest characters in. I'm sure they change to vote out when it gets closer to the final but I might be wrong.

Notonationalism · 21/11/2022 10:54

@Freddieonahill already addressed this with you. I find Sue a pain in the arse, stated previously, but not boring. I didn’t find Scarlett a pain in the arse but TO ME she came across as smug and not particularly entertaining. It is ok to observe different qualities in different people. Because they are individuals. Would I have to think the same thing about both in order not to appear racist to you? Because if that’s your reasoning it’s mental.
I haven’t previously stated what I think about MH (who should be at work) or BG who is a whinging diva, but who at least makes me laugh. This is nothing to do with the fact they are white. It’s my opinion of how they have behaved and come across. Not everything is about skin colour and to try to shoehorn it into every situation I would suggest demeans the actual topic.

Freddieonahill · 21/11/2022 10:55

Notonationalism · 21/11/2022 10:37

@Freddieonahill So what do you think of my position that neither sue nor Scarlett are particularly likeable to me? Am I being racist towards one of them? Have I judged one on skin colour and one not? How do you know what ethnicity I am in order to make that judgement? Is it allowed to have an opinion that differs from anyone else these days.

Incidentally both are women, like me. Am I being sexist towards my own kind?

In your original comment you gave reasons for not liking Scarlett which could easily be applied (and even more strongly) towards some other contestants. That was the basis of my response (and I apologise for mentioning racism), as at the time it felt like you were singling Scarlett out

I think this used to be the case. Results in the big characters being voted out earlier and I suspect ratings are better if they keep the big guns in longer?

Alexandernevermind · 21/11/2022 10:57

It was very noticeable that the 3 black contestants were the first to be votes out. Not based on previous history or politics, my final 3 favourites Jill, Mike and Matt.

Notonationalism · 21/11/2022 10:58

@Freddieonahill fair enough, but that assumes that the traits you see in contestants are the traits we all should observe. That’s not reasonable. And the original discussion was about Scarlett’s eviction hence she was the only one I commented on?

Given that only two people have actually been voted out, how is your statement correct?

NKFell · 21/11/2022 11:02

It's voting for the favourite so doubt it's racism.

Scarlette was good at tasks but probably a bit boring for the viewer, I always think she tries too hard. I tried watching Worst House on the Street and found her and her brother too much.

Charlene was just too much of a pain in the arse, especially when she cried IACGMOOH.

I'm black if that makes a difference as to how you see my point of view!

hamstersarse · 21/11/2022 11:10

It's not racism, it's only about levels of entertainment

It's not that deep.

Because Babatunde was the "it might be you", which assumably means second lowest vote?

Rhondaa · 21/11/2022 11:55

It is about who is the most well known and who has the most supporters. I can't stand Tindall for example but guess he has a massive rugby fan following so can understand he'll get lots of votes.

Had anyone even heard of Charlene and Scarlette?

BlueRidge · 21/11/2022 11:57

Wikipedia Series 1 says that they were voted to be saved and that it was bottom 2 (fewest votes).

BlueRidge · 21/11/2022 11:58

Shown here - hope it's not too small to read.

Devoutspoken · 21/11/2022 11:59

I'm surprised scarlett went, she was great

BlueRidge · 21/11/2022 12:05

I liked her very much, as I do Baba but I didn't vote for either of them. I used all 5 on the one person I'd like to win, so there were 7 others I didn't vote for either. BUT, as I've now seen that Baba appears to be at risk, I will use some of today's allocation on him.
No racism here, sorry to disappoint.

BlueRidge · 21/11/2022 12:07

Interestingly, no one has mentioned racism on any of the media coverage I've seen/heard. It's only here on Mumsnet.

@girlmom21 what interaction are you expecting from me? I do have a day job. The bottom line is it’s unconscious bias (best case scenario) and over racism as worst case scenario. However you dress it up not to be, it’s racism.

FlirtyMelons · 21/11/2022 13:18

I don't believe it is racism at all, Scarlet is probably the least known person in there. I have seen Charlene onelce or twice on Loose Women but didn't really know who she was, Baba I had not heard of.

If I had my choice BG would have gone after Charlene, or Sue, I find all 3 of them nasty bullies. Baba I really like but is not my favourite so he wouldn't get my vote, he is probably a but dull to win overall and fairly unknown. I think it's odd to try and find racism when there is none there.
