So last year … after Naughty Boy got kicked out there was controversy at the all white camp! Charlene, Scarlett out and Baba in the bottom two too!! Racism!

OP posts:
OoooohMatron · 21/11/2022 10:09

Charlene and Scarlett are pretty boring. I like Babatunde but I don't have a clue who he is, he's not particularly famous. I don't think it's racism.

Notonationalism · 21/11/2022 10:11

@Freddieonahill ridiculous, I haven’t invented a reason to dislike someone, it’s simply the reason I didn’t warm to her. For the record I think Sue is a pain in the arse and I wouldn’t vote for her either. What makes you assume, wrongly, that I don’t see those qualities in MH OR BG? The op wasn’t about them so I didn’t comment on the,. Sometimes this place is ludicrous.

Freddieonahill · 21/11/2022 10:08

Hmm...when you invent reasons to dislike someone, then it might be racism or as others have mentioned, unconscious bias. For instance, why do you see Scarlett as smug, but but MH or BG? Why is Scarlett boring but not Sue?

Oh fgs, stop looking for racism when it's not there!

Freddieonahill · 21/11/2022 10:15

From comments I've read it seems that people of colour have a much higher bar to scale over to be accepted or to win. Charlene was called bossy and annoying, but BG is called entertaining. Scarlett is called boring but Seann is called endearing and sweet. Charlene was the villain for not sleeping in the RV but BG is still voted in despite his gossiping and bullying...like if you're black you literally cannot win cos you're either "too" assertive (and get called a madam) or you're sweet and get called boringConfused

IamMaz · 21/11/2022 10:17

@TeamHerbivore They announced Charlene and Sue as ‘might be going’ but didn’t say that they were the two with least votes - they just make you think that 🤷🏽‍♀️

You obviously haven't been following the threads if you think that.

Ant confirmed Charlene and Sue got the least votes so we’re the bottom two in the previous vote. It was on a live on Instagram that he said it.

Scarlette and Seann are two entirely different characters. They're not comparable, although he is much more boring than her.

If Charlene had been open about her reasons for not sleeping in the RV, people would have understood.
Boy George is the only person willing to actually voice an opinion, whereas Charlene dishes out her orders then tries to pander to everyone rather than just owning it like BG does.

Notonationalism · 21/11/2022 10:24

@Freddieonahill you seem to want to find racism the root of everything no matter what? Already established that Charlene and Sue were in the bottom two on a previous vote..go figure.

Not really...tbh I would like it to not be racism. But certain comments do strike me as being double standard. Different levels of expectations and allowances for different people, and where the only obvious distinction is race.

And sex? Both the examples you gave were men v women. But nobody's crying sexism.

TeamHerbivore · 21/11/2022 10:34

You only have to look at the posting history of some of the people ‘explaining’ to us why it’s not racist though on a couple of these threads. They’ve only commented on I’m a celeb contestants who are black, and in a negative way. And they post negatively about various other black people multiple times. Pure coincidence I’m sure. Thank goodness they’re here to confirm it’s definitely not racism though.

But the point is if she had owned her comments like BG and had been more direct , she would have received even more hate than she already did
This is what I mean about double standards
I kept wondering what she did that was so bad and yet she got such a strong reaction. Imagine if she had carried on like BG! Confused

girlmom21 · 21/11/2022 10:37

@Freddieonahill I do agree BG is an absolute tit. I think he's getting away with it because everyone 'expects' him to be a diva. And honestly, you're right. Nobody else could behave like him and get away with it.

Maybe it's because she had her guard up the whole time.

She really annoyed me personally because I actually really like her as a journalist and a presenter. I love her on LW and really wanted her to do well. But she came across completely different on this show. I felt like she wasn't actually being the real her because she was more concerned about protecting her career; and I think her exit interview proved that. I think it just wasn't the right time in her life to do this show/

Notonationalism · 21/11/2022 10:37

@Freddieonahill So what do you think of my position that neither sue nor Scarlett are particularly likeable to me? Am I being racist towards one of them? Have I judged one on skin colour and one not? How do you know what ethnicity I am in order to make that judgement? Is it allowed to have an opinion that differs from anyone else these days.

Incidentally both are women, like me. Am I being sexist towards my own kind?

Calmdown14 · 21/11/2022 10:37

People keep talking about dislike but that's not how the voting works.
Scatlette was popular on these boards as a team player but not a stand out individual personality which is what you are voting for.

She's middle table risk just like Strictly. Sue's name being the 'it might be you ' probably saved her. Suspect Baba will get extra votes tonight for same reason as it's clear he needs to be 'saved'. Just like in strictly where coming bottom of the leaderboard and getting a harsh comment tends to mean you stay.

Ultimately to win I'm a celeb you have to do the trials. Scarlette did one but it wasn't really a proper one and wasn't individual as it fell on the day the others did one to win balls.

ReallyITV · 21/11/2022 10:38

How can anyone state it’s not unconscious bias? It’s racism at play in its most covert way. It’s the type of racism that is endemic and the most toxic. It’s the type of racism that is easily dismissed.

People would be crying sexism if the women eliminated were of more than one race.
But when both women both happen to be of the same race, then it's obvious that this "ism" would stand out more

If Sue goes next will it then become sexism rather than racism?

TeamHerbivore · 21/11/2022 10:46
  • then I won’t
HappyHamsters · 21/11/2022 10:46

I think Sue and Sean need to start doing the trials, the leader and deputy need to be replaced, camp duties re-assigned so that no one is given 3 tasks, I would like to see BG and Sue on cooking duty, he seems to be the only one who would stand up to her bossing Matt even though he has said some pretty nasty things himself. If Baba is going to be exempt from the final cyclone then is it fair that he is kept in as he has no chance of winning. I think the voting public like to see a bit of confrontation and see the contestants they don't like having to do trials. Mike and Sue should be split up, like you would any schoolyard bully.
