So last year … after Naughty Boy got kicked out there was controversy at the all white camp! Charlene, Scarlett out and Baba in the bottom two too!! Racism!

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 21/11/2022 08:42

You vote for who you want to stay. If you didn't vote you can't complain about who left.

girlmom21 · 21/11/2022 08:43

To add, it's what a PP has said – it's not blatant racism that S and C weren't voted for, it's unconscious bias.

It's not really unconscious bias.
A lot of the older fans are going to be splitting their votes between the older campmates and a lot of the camp are older this year so the votes are spread wider.

Unfortunately Charlene has proven herself to be completely different to the character lots thought she was, and therefore people won't vote to save her.

Younger fans will vote for Owen because they know and like him and because he could get a good career out of it. They'll vote for Matt and George because they like the entertainment.

Scarlette is lovely but not particularly entertaining. Much like Jill in my opinion.

GoonerGirl5231 · 21/11/2022 08:43

JaneJeffer · 21/11/2022 08:38

and the fact that the producers flipped the vote to speaks volumes.
It's always been vote to save.

It hasn't. I remember years ago it was vote to boot out.

girlmom21 · 21/11/2022 08:43

I don't understand who's voting to save Seann though because he's the least funny comedian I've ever seen.

JaneJeffer · 21/11/2022 08:44

I think you're mixing it up with Big Brother @GoonerGirl5231

Zanatdy · 21/11/2022 08:45

It’s a vote to save so it’s not like the public are selecting the black contestants to be out first. Charlene was awful, I personally wanted Sue, BG and Chris out well before Scarlette but as others have said these people have a fan base. There aren’t a great deal of ‘a place in the sun’ fans really. MH is quite popular, largely as the public hate bullies and the constant gossiping behind his back or groaning when he won the trip to the beach etc means the public vote for him. He’s also got stuck in and won a lot of trials for food for the camp but got a lot of abuse from the others when he got a question wrong etc. I don’t think he will win, will he Owen or Jill I think but I reckon he will get to the last 4/5

NigellaAwesome · 21/11/2022 08:46

I was sad and shocked to see Scarlette leave the camp. I thought she was an interesting and positive personality.

girlmom21 · 21/11/2022 08:43

Sean on stage and Sean in the jungle are two different characters. It’s clear that he suffers with mental health issues / anxiety and this kind of environment is bringing that out. People can put on an act on stage. I’ve never seen him on stage so can’t comment but I quite like him, but he’s certainly very vulnerable

My mistake. I could've sworn in the very early days it was vote to boot out and then it changed because they were losing all the controversial characters who attracted viewers.

BlueRidge · 21/11/2022 08:54

It's never been "vote to kick out" and it's disingenuous to imply that this has been deliberately changed to adversely impact on black contestants.
The press have always referred to it as being "voted off" and that is misleading.

hesbeingabitofadick · 21/11/2022 08:54

I've already posted this on another thread..

It's interesting that some posters think there's a racist element...
I know who Mike is (Mr Zara Phillips, ex rugby player), I know who Matt Hancock is (MP), I know who George is (80s pop star), I know who Chris Moyles is (ex DJ - was on Top Gear in the back of a red stretch limo made from a Panda) after that...I've seen Seann on the front pages(something to do with strictly which I've never watched)...Never heard of Jill (don't watch womens footy), Baba (never heard of gogglebox), Scarlet (don't watch whatever property/holiday show she does) Charlene (I watch either Sky or BBC news) Sue and Owen (not a clue - don't watch soaps) and whoever the other girl was that had to leave with a medical issue - not a clue who she was or what she does.
Unfortunately the title of the show is misleading - it should be
I was/would like to be a celebrity, pay me the money
🤷‍♀️

JaneJeffer · 21/11/2022 08:57

I think they probably thought this way is fairer @GoonerGirl5231 because then you don't get the public all piling on one contestant to get them out like in BB (though in case of Roxanne Pallett that was a good thing!)

IamMaz · 21/11/2022 08:58

@girlmom21 I was going to add that too. When they say 'It could be you', it doesn't mean they are announcing the two with least votes. Obviously one person has the least votes and has to go, but they pick the other just to make better TV viewing. It could actually be the person with the most votes.
Like they do on Strictly when its down to two couples and one has to go into the dance off.

Chris Moyles is still a DJ. Sue is on the longest running soap of all time. Charlene is an ITV reporter and is also on Loose Women. Olivia was on Love Island. Babatunde and Scarlette are both on shows you choose not to watch. Jill Scott is one of the greatest female footballers of all time and has represented England more than any male player.

Just because you don't know who they are, doesn't make them less famous.

The only people I didn't know this year were Scarlette, Baba and Owen but that doesn't take away from their careers.

That’s not what happened with Sue a few nights ago, Charlene and Sue had the fewest votes. They were shown as the two that might go and Charlene went.

Fair enough, you recognise more than me. 🤷‍♀️
I watch very few ITV programmes, so I don't know who these people are without research.
If the public have to work out who someone is, then they're not A grade "celebs" and the format of the show, which has been failing IMHO for a couple of years, needs a rethink.

elephantonacid · 21/11/2022 09:10

FallingsHowIFeel · 21/11/2022 00:18

I know. 🙄 I said ‘last time’.

Someone said the other person is picked at random so Baba wasn’t necessarily in the bottom 2. But that doesn’t seem to be the case as Ant and Dec confirmed Sue was indeed in the bottom 2 last time with Charlene. So it looks like Baba did get the second lowest votes after Scarlett tonight.

When you said apparently not I thought you meant 'apparently not a bottom two' then said Sue was in the bottom two, so I interpreted it wrong and thought you meant that Sue was actually in the bottom two for the latest eviction. No need for the eye roll.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/11/2022 09:14

I voted for Baba because I'm a Gogglebox fan, Jill because I enjoyed the women's euros, Mike because Zara is my favourite Royal, and Seann because I enjoy seeing how batshit he is finding the whole situation

Reasons I didn't vote for the others are:-

  • don't know who they are - Charlene (never watch LW), Scarlette (don't know who she is what she's done), Owen (never seen Holyoakes)
  • don't like them - BG (huffy toddler), Matt (should be working)
  • boring - Chris and Sue

I'd not have voted for Olivia either as I've no idea who she is.

Race didn't inform my decision.

Holeinthegardenglove · 20/11/2022 23:10

Disappointed and surprised to see Scarlett gone. I thought she’d be there till the final. I think Owen will win.

Who the f* is voting for Hancock?? I read his love interest Gina is sunning herself by the hotel pool waiting to meet him in a passionate embrace on the bridge. So, more humiliation for his poor kids as if the cctv footage of him snogging her face off while clutching her arse wasn’t enough embarrassment for them and their mother ie his wife.

All the contestants loved ones are staying in the same hotel sunning themselves by the pool, they are a couple and clearly love each other, why shouldnt she be there.

And? Why are MH’s mistakes more abhorrent to you than e.g Boy George’s serious crime or Sue’s drink driving? Should their loved ones also be banned from the pool? Spiteful double standards on display imo.

I’m sad about Scarlette leaving. I’ve been voting for her and Jill to stay.

JaneJeffer · 21/11/2022 09:25

I'd not have voted for Olivia either as I've no idea who she is.

I've forgotten her already - had to think who you meant (not that I ever knew her)

Irishfarmer · 21/11/2022 09:28

I was surprised she went, I liked her and thought she was a great team player. I'm in ROI and they don't let us vote so I voted for no one.

Notonationalism · 21/11/2022 09:57

Scarlett had been on screen quite a bit, it’s one of the reasons I was glad she went. Didn’t know her going in and as the series went on I found her quite smug and a bit boring. Add that to the fact there are other more well know faces in the camp who will always get more votes than the less high profile it’s not surprising. I don’t think it’s racism.

I’m positive the first series or two was vote to kick out, like big brother. I distinctly remember discussing it with my husband and we were saying it should be vote to save. Because otherwise you end up with the quieter, non-contentious people left and it’s less interesting.

Hmm...when you invent reasons to dislike someone, then it might be racism or as others have mentioned, unconscious bias. For instance, why do you see Scarlett as smug, but but MH or BG? Why is Scarlett boring but not Sue?
