Boy George on I'm a celebrity

It seems this has outraged a lot of people due to his previous conviction of false imprisonment.
I am aware that Gino D'Acampo spent 2 years in prison for a burglary on Paul Young's home, yet he's very popular, also appeared on and won the show in 2009, and people seem to have forgotten his crime.

Seeing as he’s been on The Voice for ages it seems a bit late.

Coronationchicken31 · 06/11/2022 08:27

Yeah exactly, the conviction was 15 years ago and he's had plenty of work since then so I don't understand why suddenly now

He's awful.

Georgeskitchen · 06/11/2022 08:57

I've always been a fan of Boy George. He did stupid things in the grip of drug addiction. He paid his dues. He's free of addiction and hasn't reoffended.
Don't people deserve a second chance?

UnstableCarHouse · 06/11/2022 08:59

I like him.

Did a crime, done the time.

CuriousCatfish · 06/11/2022 09:01

I like him and he is the only reason I will watch I'm a celebrity this year.

I wonder if you’d feel differently about him if it had been a female he’s kept imprisoned?

I think it’s a mistake to allow him on the show.

pastabakeonaplate · 06/11/2022 09:01

Not sure why but the BBC seem to like him

Penguinsaregreat · 06/11/2022 09:02

I’ll not be watching. I liked culture club back in the day. Stopped being a fan of his many years ago. Indifferent now. However, I didn’t know that about Gino. Cannot stand the man-complete idiot. I switch off anything he appears in.

Penguinsaregreat · 06/11/2022 09:03

Just to add I don’t watch I’m a celeb get me out anyway. The only thing that would make me watch it would be if someone I truly admired was in it. Doubt that will happen any time soon.

ElmoNeedsThePotty · 06/11/2022 09:05

He was excellent in The Apprentice USA and very nearly won it.

Raised a ton of money for charity.

No outcry about that.

Becuase it was in America so I wouldn't have seen it as I'm not?

DillDanding · 06/11/2022 09:07

I am not sure why he’s continued to get work since his conviction. He chained a guy to a radiator and beat him - so not exactly a minor crime.

He’s a revolting creep.

mycatisannoying · 06/11/2022 09:07

I don't like him. He gives off James Corden attention seeking vibes.

DuncanBiscuits · 06/11/2022 09:08

They’re men. Men get away with everything.

Yeah what's he got on people that they keep employing him?

RewildingAmbridge · 06/11/2022 09:09

He's good on the voice Australia, but I've had conversations with DH about the nature of his offences and how he's managed to stage such a come back, must have a very good PR team.
I don't watch I'm a celebrity anyway and this won't change that.

RedRiverShore2 · 06/11/2022 09:09

Between him and Hancock, no one else will be doing any trials

Look at Cheryl Cole (or whatever her name is) ... she was hardly out of work since her attack on a lavatory attendant.
I don't understand it personally.

Totally agree, would be uproar had it been a woman.

Afterfire · 06/11/2022 09:10

I find it easier to forgive someone who was very young and stupid and committed a burglary (Gino) - even though that’s still awful- than someone who physically assaulted someone (George). I would imagine being tied to a radiator and being hit with something was absolutely terrifying. The poor man didn’t know if he was getting out of there alive. And George was in his 40s and the man was 20 something. Horrible. He must have been terrified. George should not be on the programme and should have spent longer in prison.

catandcoffee · 06/11/2022 09:11

I lost any sympathy for the victim when he sprouted " if I was a women " crap.
(it's not a bloody competition )

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2022 09:11

I was waiting for these threads to start. I’m surprised it’s taken this long.
There’s a piece in the papers today where they have found the victim of his crime and he’s said he’s not happy as of course he would. Also he’s asked the same re the female comparison.

But as a PP said, he’s been on The Voice for ages. The crime was committed in the middle of an episode during his drug addiction and he’s cleaned himself up.

I will be watching, I think he’ll be an interesting camp mate.

Can’t bear Gino D’Campo though.

CredibilityProblem · 06/11/2022 09:12

It was a particularly nasty crime. As I understand it the victim genuinely feared for his life and is very unimpressed by BG's speedy rehabilitation and promotion to National Treasure status.

Really, why? It's a very fair point.
