Feel embarrassed? Was I in the wrong

I normally go and get my eyebrows at the same place. I brought my kids with me. They only take cash, and the cash machine is literally two shops away, inside the mall. I have a double pram, one of my child wtrapped in, I said to the lady is it okay if I run and get the money and leave her with you. As soon as I left, her husband called me who was at the shop you needed to take your child with you, so angrily as if I'm being a bad mum, and neglecting my child for being two seconds. In hindsight maybe I am in the wrong, in my mind I have been there for years and would quickly rush and leave, rather than taking the pram out. I felt so shamed and embarrassed by the incident. Was I in the wrong, please be kind I already feel like a shit mum. I'm a single mother of two little one, and I must admit I already feel like I don't know what I'm doing.

Maybe next time get the money out first

Bestofthree · 30/10/2022 23:06

You asked presumbly and she said yes. No big deal. Do notworry about it x

Shouldbedoing · 30/10/2022 23:06

Perfectly normal to leave a tot in a pram as a deposit and also for speed. Don't worry. He was being a grump. You did nothing wrong xxx

KatherineJaneway · 30/10/2022 23:07

With kindness, you should not put the shop owner in the position of having to look after your child while you get cash out.

miraveile · 30/10/2022 23:07

It's none of her husbands business! If she agreed and you trust her then no big deal. Don't beat yourself up about it

Who would you have to leave for heroin?

Hellocatshome · 30/10/2022 23:08

I imagine the husband was maybe the owner and was worrying about having an unattended child no matter how small and contained on his premises. You are not a bad mother and it probably normally wouldn't be a problem. He was obviously not happy about it for some reason so just remember to get cash out on your way next time and then forget about this incident its no big deal in the grand scheme of things.

MrsMontyD · 30/10/2022 23:11

It drives me crazy when places are cash only, they don't always tell you when you book or have signs up. They will usually take a bank transfer though.

I've left a teenager as deposit while I've nipped for cash, never a baby.

SpinningFloppa · 30/10/2022 23:11

I personally wouldn’t have done it. Is there a reason why you didn’t get it before going?

Changename5054 · 30/10/2022 23:12

No you should not leave your child with a total stranger in a shop ever they are not a nursery and could not be expected to look after your child if started crying nor are they insured for it so just don't do it ever again and you will all live happily ever after don't worry about it.

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 30/10/2022 23:13

I think this is fine and would do it.

Tothemoonandbackx · 30/10/2022 23:17

You said to 'the lady' so someone you're not even on first name terms with???? But her husband has your number?????

Peashoots · 30/10/2022 23:20

She didn’t leave the pram for a deposit, she left her actual child?!!
sorry OP but YABU. I’m really laid back but wouldn’t have dreamt of doing this. Draw the cash out ahead in future.

RobertaFirmino · 30/10/2022 23:20

It's probably to do with insurance. Had you done this at the shop where I work, I'd have said you need to take them with you. We just can't take the risk.

The key information here is what the lady's response was to your question.

Unless her answer was a profuse "Of course it's fine, I don't mind watching her for a couple of minutes!" (In which case I'd have told her husband "She said it was fine but the longer I'm talking to you the longer I'm going to be gone as I can't concentrate on the ATM while dealing with you") then I would have sucked up the inconvenience of taking the pram with you as it's not fair to put someone on the spot when it comes to putting them in charge of your child.

Children shouldn't be in a beauticians in the first place.

Presumably you knew it was cash only since you usually go there. Why didn't you get cash beforehand on your way there?

HeddaGarbled · 30/10/2022 23:39

No! No it isn’t!

HeddaGarbled · 30/10/2022 23:41

And no way it’s “2 seconds”.

user1471457751 · 30/10/2022 23:43

As its the place you usually go to then you must know its cash only and should have gone to the ATM on the way there.

I'm surprised they were happy to have your children there. Most beauticians don't allow children on the premises. Maybe that's why the husband was annoyed if they are already bending policy for you.

But if the woman said it was OK then her husband shouldn't have had a go at you.

chocolateandtea123 · 30/10/2022 23:44

Don't beat yourself up. It was a mistake and just don't do it again. Although I wouldn't do it, I understand why you did. There's worse things you could do. Don't worry.

Pixiedust1234 · 30/10/2022 23:48

Why didn't you get the cash first since its your regular place?

And no. I have never left my child with a stranger.
