Does your vomit bowl have an alternative use?

I'm clearing out my mums house, and I've found the glow in the dark Halloween pumpkin bowl that was dragged out every bug to be used as a vom bowl.

I always thought at Halloween the sweets that went in the big glow in the dark pumpkin bowl went into another one that we just didn't see?

Nope. I asked my dad. They just disinfected the vomit bowl a few times and stuck halloween sweets in it. I've eaten popcorn from that bowl!!

What the fuck? I feel so violated!!

It's the red bowl.

It's a proper multitasker as it's also a popcorn bowl, a washing up if I need to take soapy water outside bowl, soaking bowl for stained clothes, and probably loads more things too.

The inside bucket of a mini peddle bin, empty it, disinfect, put a lining bag back in and no one will ever know, no one is ever going to be dished up food from it regardless.

Should anyone wish to acquire new vomit bowls, may I recommend these, which is what we have:

www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/vispad-mixing-bowl-set-of-2-white-50421791/

Not great for mixing as they get all scratched but the extra deep design reduces the risk of splashback.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 27/10/2022 21:39

The mop bucket here. My mum used to give us a washing up bowl which was also used for dirty jobs like cleaning the dog’s stuff. Not sure I’d happily use the cake mixing bowl if I had a choice.

honeyfox · 27/10/2022 21:39

As a kid, I think our vom bowl ( I vommed a lot) was only used for steeping dirty clothes in bleach, and I'm ok with that.

miceonabranch · 27/10/2022 21:39

When you think about it, vomit is just food mixed with stomach acid, there's nothing particularly dirty about it because the acid kills the germs. It's not like it's the other end of the body 😄

honeyfox · 27/10/2022 21:40

We have those Ikea bowls for baking now 😁

onmywayamarillo · 27/10/2022 21:40

Our vom bowl is Also a Halloween bucket! But I couldn't find it last night at 2am!! So resorted to an actual bucket from the garden which resulted in lots of baby snails in the bedroom 🤮😱🤣😥

Dunnoburt · 27/10/2022 21:40

To also add......i actually bought 3 perfect giant plastic mixing bowls for 20p each at car boot specifically for that purpose 😂best value ever!!!!

Potato28 · 27/10/2022 21:40

@StillNotWarm Ofcourse everyone ‘aims’ to make the toilet but sometimes, you cant make it

Chikapu · 27/10/2022 21:40

Never had a vomit bowl, I've always used the toilet.

OhmygodDont · 27/10/2022 21:41

You guys have sick bowls…. So far fingers crossed we anit needed one.

Nameandgamechange123 · 27/10/2022 21:42

Yep as others have said..... As a child it doubled as a mixing bowl.

piratehugs · 27/10/2022 21:42

We were talking about car sickness as I passed a box of cakes round at a picnic. Someone chuckled as he took one and said he hoped this wasn't the same Tupperware my son pukes in. I laughed heartily and then realised he was indeed eating cakes out of the Sick Box.

How old are the kids?

onmywayamarillo · 27/10/2022 21:44

I think the Halloween bucket is just the job as everyone gets the vom big from oct 21st to roughly dec 21st if you're lucky! Thank god my lot got it early and not Christmas

SnarkyBag · 27/10/2022 21:45

Ours doubles up as a toilet. Never been sick in a bowl and trained the kids very early on to go straight to the bathroom when sick.

cleaning puke out of bowls? No thanks!

OhmygodDont · 27/10/2022 21:45

myexisawanker · 27/10/2022 21:42

How old are the kids?

13, 11 and 6. We are winning this one.

cliffdiver · 27/10/2022 21:46

When I was growing up, the sick bowl was a deep Mothercare bucket that was stored in the basin cabinet and used only for vomit.

When I picture it in my head I can still smell smell the vomity-bleachy smell. Feeling a bit queasy now.

AnonyMouseToday · 27/10/2022 21:46

Yes! Used to be the salad bowl!!! Poor unsuspecting guests had no idea!! I know it's gross ... But I cleaned it thoroughly!!

It was a lovely bowl, but now sadly broken! So will neither be a vomit or a salad bowl anymore :(

cliffdiver · 27/10/2022 21:48

Our sick bowl is a repurposed camping washing up bowl, but that has since been taken oven by DD2 who keeps it in her room, next to her bed "just in case".

When DD1 felt sick a couple of weeks ago I tipped the pegs out the peg bucket and gave her that.

She wasn't sick but I'd have probably washed and bleached it and reused it for the pegs.

Probably need to invest in a new communal sick bowl.

OriginalUsername3 · 27/10/2022 21:49

Either the washing up bowl or the large mixing bowl. It gets washed.

AliTheMinx · 27/10/2022 21:49

My mum used a very 80s pale green tupperware bowl, when I was little. It's still in her cupboard now and I'm sure has been used for cake mixes too... shudder! I'm an emetophobe, so just typing this is making me feel queasy!!

green82 · 27/10/2022 21:50

Glow in the dark sick bowl is actually genius.

PaisleyP · 27/10/2022 21:51

My mums is the cake bowl also. As the years have gone on. I don't eat from there any more!
