Does your vomit bowl have an alternative use?

I'm clearing out my mums house, and I've found the glow in the dark Halloween pumpkin bowl that was dragged out every bug to be used as a vom bowl.

I always thought at Halloween the sweets that went in the big glow in the dark pumpkin bowl went into another one that we just didn't see?

Nope. I asked my dad. They just disinfected the vomit bowl a few times and stuck halloween sweets in it. I've eaten popcorn from that bowl!!

What the fuck? I feel so violated!!

blackberry picking not BlackBerry picking! Although that would be more lucrative 😊

SkimmyWins · 27/10/2022 21:31

I’m surprised how many actual bowls are used

surely they’re not deep enough to be an appropriate vessel for vomit?

the splashback!

We use an old celebrations tub 😂

Seriously, they are tiny, I dont vom much but when i do, a celebrations tub wont contain it.

Some things are just not multipurpose.
Ours lives on top of the kitchen wall unit. I have the knack of knocking it down with the end of the broom at speed perfected 😁.
It gets decontaminated and returned for next time.
I'm pretty grim by MN standards but I'd need therapy to deal with that. All sorts of wrong!!

I've written "sick bowl"in big letters in a sharpie on ours after DH tried to serve some salad in it for a BBQ Confused

The covid sick bowl doubles as a cat bed, according to my cat 😄

Gorgeous cat!

Why is everyone vomiting so frequently that they need special receptacles to be earmarked for the purpose?

What do you use then?

Dilbertian · 27/10/2022 21:31

Sorry, but that's hilarious! Such a fuss over nothing at all. Our 'vom bowl' is literally whatever is to hand. Usually a washing up bowl, but any bowl or bucket will do. Just bleach or dettox between times and wash throughly at the end. If it's dishwasher-safe it gets chucked in there. I mean, do you also have PJs, bedding, towels, bedside rug that are only ever used when one of you has D&V? Why would bowls which are even more easily sterilised be any different?

Potato28 · 27/10/2022 21:31

For me, no. No way!

Partners family, Yep, sick bowl, making cakes, same bowl 🤢🤮

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/10/2022 21:32

Can be either the mop bucket or the “bleaching bowl” that’s used for sick. Although I encourage the kids to make it to the loo if they feel they’re going to be sick (mine are 14 and 8 though).

”Bleaching bowl” is the bowl I use for getting stubborn stains out of clothes, cleaning cross country trainers etc, so it has all the dirty jobs. Cleaned in between each thing of course - I wouldn’t wash clothes in a bowl that hadn’t been cleaned properly since puke.

This bowl has to be careful hidden though as it looks like a washing up bowl - people like visiting parents always seem to be able to find it and try to wash up things that can happily go in the dishwasher in it.

PinkPlantCase · 27/10/2022 21:32

Cake mix bowl!

DotBall · 27/10/2022 21:33

I was gutted when my sick bowl (aka favourite mixing bowl) was spirited away in hospital after I was admitted with a bowel instruction years ago. Never got it back 😕

Fluffluff · 27/10/2022 21:33

We have a vomit bucket as my middle daughter had FPIES as a young child.
It's not used for anything else.
My mums house however... I've vomited in her tupperware lettuce bowl and a red mixing bowl. As a child

Dunnoburt · 27/10/2022 21:33

Hahahaha this has made me chuckle! 3 weeks ago we were visiting my parents and small person was sick in my dad's "tomato" bowl......(he used it to pick his Tom's fresh from the greenhouse)......alas no more..... its been relegated to under the spare bed for any future such visits!!! ...... I've got emetophobia so could never use such a receptacle as anything else 🤣🤣

Chopbob · 27/10/2022 21:33

Another one here for using a cake mixing bowl!
I wish I could say it doesn't get used for sick very often but that would be a lie 🤣
I'm usually very fastidious about germs but this is clearly a massive blind spot for me!

DotBall · 27/10/2022 21:33

…bowel obstruction…ffs…

rainingcats · 27/10/2022 21:34

Ours doubles up as the car washing up bucket - it gets a decent clean in between uses and if someone is feeling sick then I line the bucket with a carrier bag

Iliveonahill · 27/10/2022 21:34

DuringDinnerMints · 27/10/2022 21:23

When I was a kid it doubled as the cake mixing bowl. Didn't realise until I was an adult.

Yep same here

bebravelikesuperman · 27/10/2022 21:35

Yes mixing bowl when I was younger 😂

Wallywobbles · 27/10/2022 21:35

No. It's an old popcorn bucket with a lid.

WhenDoISleep · 27/10/2022 21:35

I have two vom bowls, which double as leak catchers/general cleaning/clothes soaking etc. when not used for their primary purpose. Well cleaned after being used for their primary purpose. Growing up our vom bowl was used in the same way.

SeemingOKToday · 27/10/2022 21:35

We have a washing up bowl that gets used for sick but also for bleaching things, taking a bucket of soapy water outside or whatever.

But occasionally the washing up bowl has been in use so yes, like others, our giant pyrex mixing bowl gets it. And once, a large saucepan. I'm not bothered 🤷🏻‍♀️

mogtheexcellent · 27/10/2022 21:36

Large plastic mixing jug. Lives in the cupboard in the wc. Usually holds cleaning cloths. Can also be used for urine sample collection. Hence storage location.

BarbaraofSeville · 27/10/2022 21:36

We don't have a designated vomit bowl, but we have an old plastic mixing bowl that would probably serve that purpose, should it be required.

It was last used as a kitten bath because we have a long haired foster kitten who needed dried poo cleaning off her tail and back legs, which I did by sitting her in said bowl filled with water and gently teasing off the water softened poo.

BayCityTrollers · 27/10/2022 21:36

I emptied the toilet water into the vomit bowl to descale the loo🤣🤣

My kids are 18 and 20, it really is superfluous to requirements but it’s still there, washed and ready to go again!!

Our vomit bowl is a failed plastic mixing bowl. Too shallow for baking but a perfect vomit bowl.
